Studio Log Cabin with Hot Tub near Breckenridge in the Historic Town of Alma

This charming little gem is the perfect getaway. Just 16 miles from Breckenridge and 6 miles from Fairplay in the quaint town of Alma. This compact studio home has everything you need; a kitchen and full bath and a comfortable new euro top bed with high quality bedding. The large sofa is great to kick back on and enjoy a book or movie. Tastefully decorated with antiques and quality artwork. Walk down to the Platte River for some fishing or jump on the bike path or many nearby hiking and mountain bike trails. Just a 5 minute walk to the fun downtown restaurants and shops. Please note bedroom is open to the living room. There is a door to the bathroom. You'll be surprised how well set up it is!! On the outside patio we have a picnic table, gas grill and two adirondack chairs and of course, the two person hot tub!

About Debi OBrien

We love to travel and enjoy the outdoors. As a retired realtors and builders we also love finding houses to fix up! Here we are with the Little Bear Cabin!

Debi OBrien purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Debi OBrien chose South Central

We love the small town 'get away from it all' feeling of Alma but also it's proximity to Breckenridge, Buena Vista and all the gorgeous mountain scenery.

What makes this cabin unique

We choose this home because we have always been drawn to historic log cabins. Marty's expert carpentry and Debi's designer sense has transformed it into a perfect romantic and cozy with all the luxuries of home. I love sitting on the sunny patio in the front or walking down to the park or coffee shop. I especially love kicking back with a book or letting it all go.

The perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect little cabin to getaway to in the mountains of beautiful Colorado. Prefect for a couple or even a single just looking to get away but still have the luxuries of cable and internet. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary there and enjoyed all it had to offer, from the wifi, to the netflix, the full kitchen so we could cook our meals, to the two person hot tub. It rained almost the entire time we stayed but it was still perfect. The little town within walking distance had everything we needed (except for an extension cord but the town within in 6 miles had one so we really can't complain). We would definitely stay here again, maybe sometime this winter if we are lucky enough.

Excellent honeymoon getaway

  • 5 of 5

Alma is the highest incorporated town in North America at over 10500 feet above sea level. We enjoyed the Kite Lake hiking trails and the Mount Quandary trail. Breckenridge is about 20 minutes away and Fairplay is about 10 minutes where you can do all your shopping. The cabin is equipped with a fridge, freezer, stove, oven, outdoor grill, and sink as well as a 2 person hot tub.

We did almost all our cooking in house. The cabin is stocked with basic cooking utensils. The cabin is an excellent alternative to a motel room perfect for 2 people. Wifi is included.

Colorado Springs is 2 hours away where you can enjoy Pikes Peak, the Manitou Springs cave dwellings, and the Seven Falls. The Royal Gorge is about 1.5 hours away and is a great experience as well. There is also fishing, rafting, horse back riding, and hunting available nearby.

The house was clean and well maintained and the description was accurate. Highly recommended alternative to the Breckenridge lodges which are geared to tourists, this has an in the country feel.

We enjoyed our stay!

Great Cabin in a Great Town!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this nice little cabin on our honeymoon. What a place! Surrounded by the beauty of Colorado with all the things needed to feel at home, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Breckenridge is only 30 minutes away and Denver is an hour and forty-five minutes. Hiking trails nearby and great scenery. Recommendation: Eat ice cream while sitting in the hot tub!

Small cabin, noisy refrigerator, slippery rugs, 11,000' in altitude

TV did not work, needs landscaping out front, shelves in bathroom,

would have stayed longer but got altitude sickness.

Owner's Response: Thanks so very much for your suggestions. We will add a shelf at some point but the ample cabinet and drawer in the bathroom work well for me when I stay there. Also as this cabin is at 10,000 feet in a mining town of the Rocky Mountains, our landscaping matches the area rather than that typical of suburban America. The tv does work was a just that an incorrect button was pushed on the remote. And the Dish Network tech was able to get the tv working during your stay. Again thanks for your suggestions, and I hope your next VRBO rental is a better match for your needs. PS. I will write an excerpt in my description for suggestions to prepare for a trip to high altitude and as always consult your doctor to determine if your health is suitable for a trip above 5000 feet (especially if you are coming from sea level).

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We just had the most wonderful stay at this charming little cabin. The perfect home base for a hike-heavy weekend! We didn't utilize the hot tub but we should have. Loved being able to cook our own meals while away from home. The cabin was clean, cozy, and perfectly stocked with everything we needed. Little touches like radiant heat in the bathroom and a new gas grill really make this an ideal home away from home.

Great place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a cute little cabin in a nice little town. Everyone was so friendly in Alma! Cabin is small, but very nice and the owners have thought of pretty much everything you could want or need. So nice to be able to bring along my fur babies, yard is fenced and there are plenty of places to walk them! Absolutely a good value!

Car: necessary

16 miles from the resort town of Breckenridge. The town of Alma is surrounded by five 14,000 peaks. Local activities include biking, fishing, hiking and centrally located for white water rafting excursions, horse back riding, mountain climbing or just relaxing and enjoying the fresh mountain air and small town feeling. Alma has a handful of cute shops; a fun clothing boutique, a sheep skin coat store (plus other gifts) and super cool general store that also has a full Carhart clothing store next to it. The restaurants in town are currently (9/1/2015) the South Park Saloon and the Alma Coffee House and you can get some prepared items and tons of food at Almart (the general store). Fairplay offers quite a few more nice restaurants and shops. And, of course a quick drive over the pass to Breckenridge (only 16 miles) offers more restaurants and shopping than you can shake a stick at!! I have a notebook at the cabin pointing out hikes and bikes and fishing spots nearby that we love. The notebook also includes local menus and a Summit County Menu Guide.

I think everyone is super surprised and delighted when they open the door. Maybe they are expecting a dingy old cabin BUT no...they get a bright and cheerful updated cabin with all the modern conveniences. The collection of art work and tasteful decorations really make this place. Ya gotta see it to believe it!!!
