About DEBORAH OBRIEN
We love to travel and enjoy the outdoors. As a retired realtors and builders we also love finding houses to fix up! Here we are with the Little Bear Cabin! We are connoisseurs of vacation rentals and are always trying to learn new ideas for making our place more comfortable for our guests. We gladly receive suggestions and try to act on them!!
DEBORAH OBRIEN purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why DEBORAH OBRIEN chose Alma
We love the small town 'get away from it all' feeling of Alma but also it's proximity to Breckenridge, Fairplay and Buena Vista and all the gorgeous mountain scenery and endless opportunities for hiking, biking and exploring. When this cabin came on the saw the potential for restoring it and offering it for short term rentals... it is a the perfect size for an escape from the hussle and bussle of the cities, a place for time alone to write or draw or a romantic getaway. We also love the ease of walking into town for a bite or heading up Buckskin Gulch for a walk or to 'bag a 14'er'. And if Summit County is incredible shopping, a plethora of restaurants and museum and activities only 16 miles away.
What makes this Cabin unique
We choose this home because we have always been drawn to historic log cabins. Marty's expert carpentry and Debi's designer sense has transformed it into a perfect cozy space with all the luxuries of home. I love sitting on the sunny patio in the front or walking down to the park or coffee shop. I especially love kicking back with a book and letting it all go.

Amazing little cabin that was a pefect little getaway
This cabin was clean and had everything my husband and I needed, including a little fenced in yard for our yellow lab and a perfect two person hot tub for the cool nights. It was just the right size for the three of us. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Just 20 minutes from Breckenridge this cabin is located at the end of the quiet little town of Alma. Alma also has a small pub with great homemade pizza and locally brewed beer as well as a small park with a little watering hole for the dog to cool off, and kids to play if you have them. We were even graced with the local young bull moose who made himself available for a short time for great pictures in the middle of town. I would highly recommend this cabin for your next Colorado getaway!
Amanda thanks sooo much for the lovely review!! So glad you got to see the moose...he was hanging out in town for about two weeks..mowing everyone's lawns...very big and very photogenic. Hope you guys can come again! Take care.
A wonderful and cozy cabin!
We had a great time. You can watch the sun come up each morning! The mountain views were beautiful. Everything we needed was supplied by Debi and Marty. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for providing such a nice place to enjoy Colorado!!
Thank you Stephanie! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. You guys were great guests and left the place spotless. I so appreciate that. We'll look forward to hosting you again!!!
Just enough room
Our trip was cut short by a death in our family. So we were only in the cabin 11hours. We took a great hot shower. Drank the excellent water Debi supplied. Slept in the cozy comfy bed. Sat on the sofa (kinda old) drank yummy coffee (@3:30am) Thank you Debi for the coffee and creamers/sugars. That was so great. We had to take off to Denver airport. My husband loved loved the cabin. He thought it was perfect!
Thank you for the nice comments Jane. I am so sad for you guys..having to leave in the middle of the night and we send our heartfelt condolences. I hope you can come again soon.
Loved this little cabin and Alma!
My husband and I stayed in Debi's cabin for 3 nights. I wish it could have been more. Though tiny it really has everything and Debi has not spared a single detail. There is a full kitchen with every kitchen item you could think of including spices, oilve oil and lots more. The bed was super comfortable. We loved Alma. Such an interesting little community. I recommend that you spend time in the South Park Saloon which is a 5 minute walk down Main Street from the cabin. Not only is the food outstanding but there is an interesting blend of tourists and locals which made for great people watching. I also recommend visiting the Almart store on Main. Wow...they have everything including gourmet and organic food choices and an entire room of Carhart products. They guy running it was one of the nicest people we met on this trip. Millzoni's and Java Moose in Fairplay are also not to be missed for an amazing meal. For a hike absolutely do not miss Limber Grove. Hard to descibe but this place is magical. Last but not least, there was an adorable resident bunny that would come out a few times every day to spend time with us and nibble on grass. Again, the cabin was wonderful and Debi was so easy to communicae with and so helpful with suggestions.
If we had one helpful suggestion about the cabin it would be to extend the little privacy fence a few feet around the hot tub. Neighbors on both sides are fairly close and especially at night when they are pulling in after dark one can feel a little on display. That being said it did not keep us from enjoying the tub several times in the three days we were there. It was so fun to have it!
Quiet Alma cabin on the edge of town
We had a nice quiet weekend in Alma with a quick day trip into Breckenridge. Kite Lake is just up the adjacent mountain road and is an excellent hiking spot. If you are looking for a quiet place in a small mountain town this is a great choice.
Great little cabin!
Wonderful cabin! Small, but very functional. We had our lab and 2 month old daughter with us and it was perfect. The area was beautiful and we enjoyed getting out around both Alma and Fairplay. Hope we can make it back sometime.
16 miles from the resort town of Breckenridge. The town of Alma is surrounded by five 14,000 peaks. Local activities include biking, fishing, hiking and centrally located for white water rafting excursions, horse back riding, mountain climbing or just relaxing and enjoying the fresh mountain air and small town feeling. Alma has a handful of cute shops; a fun clothing boutique, a sheep skin coat store (plus other gifts) and super cool general store that also has a full Carhart clothing store next to it. The restaurants in town are currently (9/1/2015) the South Park Saloon and the Alma Coffee House and you can get some prepared items and tons of food at Almart (the general store). Fairplay offers quite a few more nice restaurants and shops. And, of course a quick drive over the pass to Breckenridge (only 16 miles) offers more restaurants and shopping than you can shake a stick at!! I have a notebook at the cabin pointing out hikes and bikes and fishing spots nearby that we love. The notebook also includes local menus and a Summit County Menu Guide.
