The Farragut House was built in 2014, so everything is new. The house has heat for the winter and AC for the summer. If you want to experience the culture and charm that is Portland, all from the comfort and convenience of a modern home, reserve the Farragut House today!
My name is Laurie Tuite. My mother, Barbara, is the actual owner of Farragut House. I live in Portland and manage the property for my family. Barbara is an honest to goodness rocket scientist (aerospace engineer) who is now retired. She lives in Florida with her husband, Jay, and two of her four kids.
I am an English teacher turned temporary stay-at-home mom. My husband, son, and I live in the Kenton neighborhood as well, just about six blocks away from Farragut House.
Laurie Tuite purchased this house in 2014
A few years ago, Barbara's oldest child (me) moved to Portland. I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area which I loved. But after only one visit to Portland, Oregon I knew that this was the place for me. It has all of the excitement and charm of the big city, but Portland is much cleaner, safer, and more affordable. Deciding to move to Portland was the easiest big decision I've ever made.
Flash forward a couple years, and I am now married and have a cute little son (Barbara's first grandchild.) That led to several visits to Portland from Barbara and the family, and their eventual decision to buy a house here. Barbara and Jay looked at many homes, and toured many neighborhoods, before settling on Farragut House. It is brand new, so repairs and maintenance will be minimal. There won't be any lead paint or black mold which may still be present in even the nicest of remodels. And its location on a quiet street in Kenton makes it peaceful and comfortable to return to after a day of visiting friends and family or exploring Portland. This has been a really great home-away-from-home for my family while staying in Portland. We hope you'll feel the same way!
Farragut House has many benefits. Its proximity to the 5 freeway, the ease with which one can travel to and from both the airport and downtown, the quietness of the neighborhood, and the design and layout of the house itself all add up to Farragut House being an ideal home base from which to experience Portland.
We had several employees working in Portland and they loved staying here. Laurie was great to work with. We hope to stay here again the next time we are in Portland.
We had a great experience staying at this house, it had the amenities we needed, the layout worked great for our needs with guests ranging from 3 months old to grandparents. We highly recommend the property.
Loved staying here, the house as clean and comfortable.
Has everything you need to stay comfortably the whole time.
Games for the whole family, books and movies for all as well.
If you are staying with a baby, it has bedding even for them!
Such an awesome place and the people were so kind.
I would totally stay again in a heartbeat!
We recently stayed at this house for a little over a week with my family when we were attending my brother's wedding. We loved the place! It was very homey and private, and big enough to accommodate our big family. For us it was way better than a hotel. The house was very clean. It looked new or recently renovated. We found everything we could possibly need during our stay, including cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and even diapers. The kitchen was sufficiently equipped with all kinds of kitchenware which made it easy to prepare meals for a large group. All the bedrooms were nicely furnished. I would recommend it for a big family or group looking for a comfy place to stay.
We live in Las Vegas and summers are VERY hot! We decided to try to cool off in Portland. We found Barbara and Laurie's comfortable home on VRBO. Well-located and basically brand-new. All the conveniences of home. Laurie lives nearby and was so helpful if we needed anything or had questions. I recommend for couples or families - plenty of bedrooms and a fully functional kitchen. The neighbourhood is very quiet - walking distance to many excellent coffee shops and restaurants. Well-deserving of a 5-star rating.
We stay a week in this beautiful house and loved it. The house seems to be new construction and very well maintained. There was plenty of room for our family and would have been space for even another family to stay. It was 100 degrees while we were there, so we were also pleased there was air conditioning. It is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood. Laurie was wonderful to work with and made the renting process seamless. I would recommend this house to families and groups.
Kenton is a great neighborhood from which to experience Portland! It is close to the I-5 freeway, about fifteen minutes from PDX airport, twenty minutes from downtown, and walking distance to the TriMet and MAX line (should you choose not to drive.)
From historic Kenton (which was founded in 1911, and annexed by Portland a few years later,) you are conveniently located to enjoy your stay in Portland. Go shopping in nearby Hayden Island. Check out a race at PIR or an event at the Expo Center. Walk to New Seasons or Green Zebra markets. Or stroll down Denver Avenue and enjoy the restaurants, bars, antique and local goods shops, the library, and more. Be sure to visit the giant Paul Bunyan statue while you are here.
If you are visiting Portland with children, there are many fun places to go that are within a twenty to thirty minute drive. OMSI, the Portland Zoo, the Children's Museum, Oaks Park, the Japanese Gardens, Powell's City of Books, Forest Park hiking trails, the Audubon Society, and Pittock Mansion are a few hot spots.
For adults, Portland's night life has much to offer. Go see a play, opera, or ballet in one of the theaters downtown. Partake in appetizers and cocktails at Portland City Grill where, if you get there early, you can sit by the window and look out over the whole city. Enjoy dinner and dancing on the waterfront of the Willamette River. Check out the drag show put on by Darcelle XV, 'the oldest female impersonator on the West Coast.' Or rent bicycles and explore the town. Don't forget to stop at one of the many gourmet food carts for a delicious taste of local flavor.
