Vacation on the Menominee River in Marinette County

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,450 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom on 4 private acres situated on the Menominee River

This property is located about 12 miles north of Marinette Wisconsin on the Menominee River. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, with about 1500 square feet of living space. There is a spiral staircase going up to the second floor bedroom that has a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and a screened in porch. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and a kitchen with a breakfast bar and door leading out to a deck with a river view. The house sits on 4 wooded acres and has about 320 feet of river frontage. The house is on a corner, so the river wraps around the house with breathtaking views looking south, east, or west. The fishing is outstanding, with groups sometimes catching 100 Smallmouth Bass fish daily. There are rock outcroppings that extend out from shore, drop-offs, and varying currents everywhere making for an enjoyable fishing experience, especially for people that like to wade. Kayaking and tubing down the river, letting the current take you is also a great activity. We will provide 2 kayaks, a canoe, a non-motorized fishing boat, and some tubes to make your experience on the Menominee river a memorable one.

There is a boat landing about 2 miles north if you want to launch a boat. I would not recommend anything larger than a 14 foot boat, the river can be navigated but if you are unfamiliar care must be taken, especially mid summer if the river is low. There is a wayside about 1 mile north, so if you want to kayak or tube, we can drive you and help with the trip. It takes about 2 hours from the boat landing, 1 hour from the wayside to make it back to the cabin. For a longer trip, there is another boat landing 5 miles north. There is another boat landing 3 miles south? Swimming in front of the cabin is nice with sand in front. There are 2 restaurants, one 5 miles north, one 5 miles south both on hwy 180. Both are your northwoods atmosphere and serve typical northwoods type food. The waterfalls tour is another favorite activity, along with spending time at the DeYoung family zoo. 15 minutes to the west is Crivitz, check out the shops, golf courses, or lakes. Marinette is 13 miles.

Lots of do... even in the rain!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to northern Wisconsin and we were impressed with all that this area had to offer. Although it rained the entire weekend, we were not taken back by it. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and we made all our meals in the spacious and stocked kitchen. White water rafting, paintballing, waterfall tours and kayaking down the Menominee River, which was right out the back door, were all highlights of our trip. The last morning of our stay as we were kayaking down the river (in the rain of course) we saw two eagles fly overhead...Awesome! We created many wonderful memories in the four days of our stay and finding this cabin was a godsend.

Beautiful place well worth the money.... 5 STAR

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I fished Green Bay and stayed there instead of a motel. It was a short drive to the lake and well worth it.

The owner ( Karen) was very friendly and had the place super clean. It was like we never left home.

We are definitely going back there . You cant beat the view ( right on the river) .

Another wonderful Girls Weekend on the Menomonee River. Lots of laughs and relaxation was had by all. We saw turkeys and also had bald eagles up above. Would highly recommend Tinkers Dam!! Thanks again Karen!

as good as advertised

The cabin was clean. The host checked in each day to see that everything was OK and gave us some helpful area sightseeing tips.

The beauty of the north woods with all the comforts of home.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Tinkers Dam and we will be back. My brother and sister and I, along with my sister's husband, spend a week together every year. After a number of stays in Door County and the Tomahawk area we decided to look for something different and stumbled on this property along the Menominee River. It was perfect.

The cabin is large enough to accommodate all of us and features everything you might need—full kitchen and baths, TV (broadcast not cable), even Wi-Fi—and is just rustic enough. It's tucked away in a heavily wooded setting with the river in the back yard. The hosts are attentive to your needs without being intrusive. Best of all, it's very reasonably priced.

It is somewhat remote so unless you plan on doing a lot of your own cooking you'll have to drive to find dining options. There are some good choices within a couple of miles and more choices 15 minutes or so away in Marinette and Menominee. There is an abundance of attractions and recreational activities available within an easy drive.

Be warned, cell phone reception is very poor but there is a land-line phone with free long distance.

My brother can be rather picky about the details and he was the first to suggest be come back again next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks Martin, we are glad the cabin works out so nicely for you. I think Marinette county is underrated. It is not as 'touristy' as other locations, but there is still plenty to do, especially if you enjoy water. I do wish the cell service was a little better at the cabin, but some people think of it as a positive to staying here! See you next year.

Beautiful setting, nicely appointed home, clean

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 4-year old son, and I stayed here for a few days in mid-July. We loved it - the home is set on a beautiful site on the Menominee river, really idyllic. The home has everything you'd need, and is clean. Karen is very nice. I'd recommend this place wholeheartedly!

The only downside was that the wi-fi was slow. It wouldn't have been a problem, only that my wife was working for a few days when we were there and she needed internet.

Hwy 180 was under construction when were there, so this made getting in and out of Marinette difficult because of the long detour.

Fishing on the Menominee River, and relaxing on 4 acres by the campfire with a fantastic waterview are the reasons most people choose to stay at Tinker's Dam. Off the property, there are many activities in the area. There is a wonderful family zoo less than 10 miles away which will not disappoint. Marinette county is the waterfalls capital of Wisconsin, and there is also whitewater rafting in the area.
