Vacation on the Menominee River in Marinette County

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,450 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom on 4 private acres situated on the Menominee River

This property is located about 12 miles north of Marinette Wisconsin on the Menominee River. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, with about 1500 square feet of living space. There is a spiral staircase going up to the second floor bedroom that has a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and a screened in porch. The living room has a wood burning fireplace and a kitchen with a breakfast bar and door leading out to a deck with a river view. The house sits on 4 wooded acres and has about 320 feet of river frontage. The house is on a corner, so the river wraps around the house with breathtaking views looking south, east, or west. The fishing is outstanding, with groups sometimes catching 100 Smallmouth Bass fish daily. There are rock outcroppings that extend out from shore, drop-offs, and varying currents everywhere making for an enjoyable fishing experience, especially for people that like to wade. Kayaking and tubing down the river, letting the current take you is also a great activity. We will provide 2 kayaks, a canoe, a non-motorized fishing boat, and some tubes to make your experience on the Menominee river a memorable one.

There is a boat landing about 2 miles north if you want to launch a boat. I would not recommend anything larger than a 14 foot boat, the river can be navigated but if you are unfamiliar care must be taken, especially mid summer if the river is low. There is a wayside about 1 mile north, so if you want to kayak or tube, we can drive you and help with the trip. It takes about 2 hours from the boat landing, 1 hour from the wayside to make it back to the cabin. For a longer trip, there is another boat landing 5 miles north. There is another boat landing 3 miles south? Swimming in front of the cabin is nice with sand in front. There are 2 restaurants, one 5 miles north, one 5 miles south both on hwy 180. Both are your northwoods atmosphere and serve typical northwoods type food. The waterfalls tour is another favorite activity, along with spending time at the DeYoung family zoo. 15 minutes to the west is Crivitz, check out the shops, golf courses, or lakes. Marinette is 13 miles.

Secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This year we had 10 adults and a 1 year old. Fantastic place to stay!!! Very clean and Karen is an awesome 'landord':) Property is well kept with plenty of privacy. Beds are cozy and comfortable. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the river. We've rented several properties over the years, and this one is the best stocked we've ever had! We were grateful when we did our cookie exchange and realized some of us forgot some things! Kitchen had any and everything we needed. Thanks so much Karen for everything! I hope to go back again.

Very nice property!

  • 5 of 5

Great location on the river! This property has a lot to offer from fishing and canoeing to great evenings by the fire. The screened in porch was great for early morning coffee (or evening wine). The cabin is stocked with all the necessities and we had more than we expected. The grills worked perfectly for amazing suppers and the sleeping accommodations were very comfortable. Karen is so super nice and was happy to provide drop off and pick up for canoeing. Thanks Karen! We had a very fun and at the same time relaxing retreat. Oh, and totally recommend going to Dave's Falls. Beautiful! Just in case you must... the WiFi was great.

Perfect Riverhouse!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to find the right place for my husband to try out his new kayak -- and Tinker's Dam was it! The house is clean and cheerful, the lot is secluded and well-maintained, and the scenery couldn't be better. There's a narrow spiral staircase and the large upstairs bedroom contains steps to and within the bathroom, which might affect sleeping arrangements. But it's comfortable throughout, and the rainy day wasn't any problem.

There are many places along the Menominee River to enter and paddle down to the cottage (though Bear's Point Park, he discovered, was too far and included a dam and rapids.) I painted, had a bath in the huge tub, and waded into the river. I would have had a swim, but the temperature was a bit cool. Two nights we had bonfires using the generous wood provided.

My husband and I had our morning coffee in three different spots: the screened in porch; the deck; and the gazebo. We just never got tired of looking at that river view!

The owner lives right next door, and is both kind and helpful. We would definitely recommend Tinker's Dam.

Great family get away

  • 4 of 5

My family and I had a great week at Tinker's Dam. It is clean, well supplied, and the owner is very gracious and helpful. Tinker's Dam is well located, easily accessible, and yet private and remote. The location on the river is beautiful, and we enjoyed the gorgeous views of the river. The river is not swimmable - the current is too strong - so if you hope to swim you will have to travel to a local beach.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review. The swimming conditions are usually much better, but with the excessive amount of rain we have had this year the depth has been higher than normal which made the current faster. Glad you enjoyed yourselves!

Fantastic Family Weekend at Tinker's Dam!

  • 5 of 5

We have just recently arrived home after a 3-night stay at Tinker's Dam. Karen keeps the residence very clean and the place has the decor of a lovely, quaint lake house (very cute!). We had a little bit of rain during our time there, but we truly enjoyed the whole time as it gave us time to play games and be together. We toured the waterfalls at Dave's Falls (about 30 min), kayaked, and had a bonfire every night. We absolutely would stay again.

Lots of do... even in the rain!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to northern Wisconsin and we were impressed with all that this area had to offer. Although it rained the entire weekend, we were not taken back by it. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and we made all our meals in the spacious and stocked kitchen. White water rafting, paintballing, waterfall tours and kayaking down the Menominee River, which was right out the back door, were all highlights of our trip. The last morning of our stay as we were kayaking down the river (in the rain of course) we saw two eagles fly overhead...Awesome! We created many wonderful memories in the four days of our stay and finding this cabin was a godsend.

Fishing on the Menominee River, and relaxing on 4 acres by the campfire with a fantastic waterview are the reasons most people choose to stay at Tinker's Dam. Off the property, there are many activities in the area. There is a wonderful family zoo less than 10 miles away which will not disappoint. Marinette county is the waterfalls capital of Wisconsin, and there is also whitewater rafting in the area.
