The captain was my mother's grandfather. I was born in Greenville but have been in Columbia for many years. I retired from Irmo schools where I taught sixth grade for almost 30 years. My husband and I enjoy being grandparents & love our little rescue dogs, Maddox and Brady, & our seven hens. We are into gardening, fishing, tennis, hiking, pickleball, & golf, & love our mountain time together.

A historic and idyllic mountain home stay to remember!!!

  • 5 of 5

Want to not only enjoy the North Carolina mountains, but to truly experience it's charm and history? Then I wholeheartedly urge you to secure some time to stay in the historic O.P.Mills mountain home. This home has been the treasured and much loved home of the Mills family and their descendants for many generations. The spacious two story home has room to spare, with 6 bedrooms and 3 baths, with capabilities to sleep even more. Most importantly, the historic surroundings have, for the most part, been left intact. Though modern conveniences are available, the details like rich wood flooring ,bead board walls, and fireplaces throughout, make one feel as if they have entered another time period. In fact, one could sense the many stories of this family upon walking through the home. Enjoy the huge front or back porches, and you can witness the lush mountain beauty surrounding you, and also hear the mountain stream down the hill gurgling peacefully. The property is surrounding by the vast family acreage and includes amazing hiking trails. The quiet, comfort, and peace we experienced at this amazing dwelling made it difficult for us to leave. I do highly recommend this property, in fact we hope to secure another reservation , as soon as we can break away. Though this visit included only my husband and I, next time we're bringing the grandchildren!

Loved our stay!

  • 4 of 5

The house was a fabulous step back in time! For a 131 year old home, the property has been well taken care of. We loved the screened in porch as a gathering place. We were a little concerned with the lack of AC, but those concerns disappeared with the constant breeze and the shade provided by the trees. It was very comfortable. With the lack of cell service in the area, it would be good for future guests if there was a working wifi. Overall we really enjoyed our stay! Missie was very good to work with!!

Owner's Response: Michael and his friends were wonderful guests who were probably used to more elegant accommodations but seemed to enjoy the older home and roughing it without the cell phones and air conditioning. I forgot to leave the code for the WiFi so am now posting it prominently. This house and its owners are old dogs who are learning new tricks!

This place was magnificient!!! The scenery, the serenity, the accomodations and the area was truly phenomenal! I would recommend this getaway to anyone who is looking for a relaxing few days to clear ones mind.

There was so much to do in the surrounding areas from Hiking, kayaking, antiquing and great food...a must see!

Missie and Marshall were friendly and gracious in allowing us to stay in their home. Truly deserves a 5 star rating!!!

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure to meet Jess and his family before turning the house over to them. They were enthusiastic newcomers to this area and evidently explored and enjoyed everything they could in the few days they were here. We were pleased to return to a spotless house and would be delighted to have them here again.
