Why Barbara Powell / Joe Klein chose Tanque Verde
This property is unique in that it is secluded, very quiet, has awesome mountain views from all windows. The Breeze upstairs suite has a huge bathroom and soaking tub for absolute relaxation...Very large north side porch with two person swing, eating area, huge bar b que, and the views are breathtaking of the Santa Catalinas, front porch has eating area. The front porch is nice in the mornings to sit out and enjoy the AZ sun warmth with views of the Rincons and the Santa Ritas. Completely self contained unit. Queen bed in back for afternoon naps, fan over tub in huge bathroom, with new walk in shower with glass block door, awesome tile work, and pebble floor. This property is located a short distance off the main road, down a dirt road. Sometimes there is running water thru the property, so we have waterfront property in Az. Lots of bird sounds and sometimes coyotes howling in the distance. Hiking trails all around, the wash goes up into the canyons for incredible hikes. Every night it is time to watch the incredible sunsets, most are orange, red and pink...they light up the sky as they change color. The Breeze is like you are on top of the world looking out. Best views on the property, looking out at the Sonoran Desert. I love this property because, it is at the end of a dirt road, very secluded, we have a gate with code, so you are very secure. You will remember your stay forever... Come see this incredible property in Sunny Arizona.
What makes this House unique

A for Arizona
This property and hosts Joe and Barbara check off all the boxes for a great stay ... they even have Jack, the world's nicest dog. It is reachable by dirt road in the northeast foothills, with great mountain views from front and back second-floor porches. Birds and rabbits are plentiful, with one coyote sighting. Comfortable living space with lots in the kitchen and a Safeway is about five miles away for any other needs. Hiking in two directions right from the property, plus short easy drives to Sabino Canyon and Saguaro National Park East. Golf about three miles away. Not a lot to choose from on restaurants nearby, but we were content to use the big grill on the back porch several nights, and drive into cool old Tucson on other nights. This a great place to appreciate the special surroundings.
Quiet with amazing views!
Loved this place! Off the beaten path, but not far from parks, hikes and stores. Barbara and Joe were the perfect hosts! They were available, kind, and "in the background". The whole place was stocked with items we may need, plus thoughtfully had the bar equipped for our first night! Quiet front porch to animal watch, and a quiet back patio for grilling and eating while looking at the hills. The hummingbird feeder kept me entertained while I drank my coffee. We had great weather, and it is close to many hikes. We would be happy to return!
Great Tucson Experience
As an ex-Tucsonite from the 70s-80s, I could not have been happier with our accommodations during a recent father/son trip in late March/early April 2018. Joe and Barbara's compound near Agua Caliente Park in East Tucson is a true desert experience, with optimal privacy and space to explore. Much of Tucson has been built up - this location is spacious and open - you can wander for acres and acres without feeling like you're trespassing or walking into someone's yard. I have so many positive things to say, I'll try to consolidate:
Hosts (Joe and Barbara (and Jack - the dog)) - Very accommodating and gracious, treat you like a friend. Easily accessible without being even remotely intrusive. My son loved seeing Jack whenever he could.
Location, Location, Location - It's what I wanted - a remote desert experience, the unit has both east (sunrise) and west (sunset) balconies with gorgeous views. Coyotes howling in the distance at night, birds chirping in the AM. Saw rabbits, quail, dove, and closeup hummingbirds every day. Saw roadrunners and coyotes while driving near the house. Shopping is about 8-10 minutes away.
Facilities: We used horseshoe pits and hot tub - come and go as you please. I hiked from the front of the gated compound to Agua Caliente Park and from the back of the compound out via a wash to some private desert areas. I used the front bed, gorgeous sunrise views - my son used the back bed for privacy. We used the apartment as a base for day trips and did not spend that much time there, just leisurely mornings with coffee and wildlife, and evening sunsets and TV before (in) bed. I could see someone staying all week though, and not leaving other than for groceries.
Bottom line: 5/5 and would love to rent again. Joe said his other option on the compound is even nicer. The Breeze was perfect for us and the experience exceeded all expectations. Thanks!!!!
Restful stay at Caliente creek ranch
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Caliente Creek ranch.. Barbara and Joe were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit during our stay. The sun rise and sunsets were beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Great Place to Relax
Staying at "The Breeze" was a wonderful experience, because our motivation to visit Tucson was to relax in a quiet rural setting and enjoy the desert weather. This place was an excellent choice to achieve that. We enjoyed sitting on the front balcony and watching the birds and critters come and go. Across the street is a county park with walking trails, a pond with a variety of ducks, educational programs and an historic house. The apartment is well furnished and very comfortable; everything we needed was right there. Our only concern with the layout is that the kitchen area is rather small -- OK for light meals but cooking a full dinner would be a challenge. Joe provided helpful information about the area and what to do. Driving to downtown takes about 30 minutes; we did so only once because much of what we wanted to do was east of downtown. A variety of commercial facilities is about three miles away. We highly recommend this place!
Great place and location
We just stayed at the Caliente Creek Ranch this past weekend. We loved it! The owner, Joe, was really great and personally showed us places to walk and hike from the property. He also gave us a number of tips about things to see and do in Tucson.
The property was beautiful. It is in Tuscon, but also out in the country, so it is very beautiful with lots of birds and wildlife. My husband and I are birdwatchers and we really enjoyed the hummingbirds and other birds on the property. From the property, you can walk down a wash, which is quite beautiful and also to the nearby Aqua Caliente park. The rooms we rented were up a spiral staircase and had two balconies, which we loved to sit on and watch the birds and sunset. The rooms were very nice, clean and well equipped with all you need for a stay. Great place!!
Property is out, but close (5 miles) to grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants...also malls are close about 8 miles away
