I grew up across the street from Brook's Mill. But I also grew up on this property. The owner at the time let my brothers and I roam the part of the property across the street from our family's house. It is a fair sized property, around 5 acres or so.
We would play baseball, smash rocks, climb trees, build forts, run races, collect beaver sticks, poke poo, tussle, ride bikes, ski, camp, toboggan, wade in the water and try to clean the sand off our feet before putting on our shoes. We were athletes, cavemen, animals, cowboys, explorers, damn builders, researchers, wrestlers, bmx champions and on top of it all - not being bothered by our parents. (of course my folks were probably just as happy to have a few hours of quite).
I've always know that Brook's Mill is a great place. So since the first time the it came up for sale and I didn't win the Reader's Digest lottery, I have been saving my pennies. With a bit of patience and good luck, one of the rare times a childhood dream came true.
So you must be asking yourself already, if this is such a great spot why isn't he living there with his family. Well, to make a long story short, I have been working and living in Europe since 1997, so I need some time to get myself back over to Muskoka.
In the meantime, I hope to offer you a great place to make memories of your own at Brook's mill.
I hope you enjoy your stay.
Ryan O'Mara purchased this house in 2013
Brooks Mill occupies one half of the bay at the southern end of Rebecca lake. There are shallows at the mouth of the bay, so you won't get bothered by big boats and other noise makers roaring around in front all day long. Rebecca lake is fairly quiet, but if there is a bigger boat out, they tend to stay in the larger part of the lake. If you have your own boat, our dock is deep enough for most boats and we have a fairly good boat launch.
Wonderful lake front setting,
Excellent swimming and boating possibilities,
Lots of wildlife - beavers, blue herons, loons...
Excellent fishing lakes
Centrally located between Huntsville and Algonquin Park.
Local Trails, Roads and Parks - Limberlost Wildlife Reserve, ATV trails, logging roads. Great countryside for experience mountain bikers.
Excellent area for mountain bikers and runners.
We stayed at Brooks Mill for a week in August and really enjoyed it. The cottage is very nice and the beach/dock area was perfect for our 8 month old baby. Mike and Cathy (the owners parents who live nearby) were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
We booked our stay at this property as a last minute getaway for our family, it could not have been more perfect. The cottage is spacious (there were six of us),clean and comfortable. Not knowing what to expect we came prepared to be self-sufficient, but found that everything we needed was already there, including bug jackets which came in handy in the evenings. We found the daytime was pretty much bug free.
The property is managed by the owners parents Cathy and Mike, they live a short distance down the road. They are the most gracious hosts. When we arrived there was a jar with freshly baked cinnamon buns waiting for us with a welcoming note. Mike would stop by briefly each day to check on us ans see i we needed anything. He brought us minnows for bait, and even helped with some additional fishing tackle. He managed to do this with out being intrusive in any way. Great hosts!!
We would not hesitate to book another stay here, and could not give it a higher recommendation.
Can't say enough about this lovely spot. We stayed at Brook's Mill with our two young children (ages 5 &1) and had an amazing time. The shallow beach area was perfect for them. The views of the lake from the dock, deck, bedrooms and living area are beautiful at all times of the day. There are neighbouring cottages but this property still feels private. Our wildlife sightings included blue jays, loons, sandpipers, fish, frogs, ducks, dragonflies, a blue heron and two otters. Very well appointed with linens, towels, kitchen supplies, board games, books, firewood and water toys. Even the garbage disposal station and water station are just a short drive away! The owners connection with and pride in this property really show. I'm already planning go come back next year! Thank you Ryan and family.
We spent a great weekend at this cottage. The property is huge, the location is perfect, the amenities are everything you could wish for. Our hosts were very accommodating and arranged for an early check in for us, which was greatly appreciated. The bedrooms were specious and private, all the beds were very comfy including the one in the muskoka room. The kitchen is very well equipped and you'll find anything you might need there. There was plenty of firewood for the fire pit. We enjoyed the variety of ways to go on the lake: kayaks, canoe, paddle boat etc. The mosquito jackets were a great help, though mosquitos weren't a problem other than for a couple hours at sundown. The place is absolutely beautiful, very relaxing and we don't have a single negative thing to say about it.
This stay was a great introduction to Muskoka country. The host's representatives, Mike and Cathy, were there to check us in and orient us to the property. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and had a real homey appeal to it in all areas. The "Muskoka" room during a thunder storm was especially appealing. The cottage was well stocked with absolutely everything we might need or want, both inside and outside. We enjoyed fishing at the dock, relaxing around the fire pit and enjoyed the view of the lake from the deck. It is located close to the lovely town of Hunstville and we also enjoyed a short hike at the Limberlost Reserve which offered amazing views. We would definately stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any of our family or friends.
We spent 3 days at this great waterfront property, on a very secluded and quiet lake. There was many things for us to do like fishing, swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking, it was just what we were looking for. Owner's parents were very helpful, welcoming and knowledgable about the area and we actually ventured off on a hike at the Limberlost Reserve, which had amazing views of the lakes and we stopped for a picnic lunch. We had no issues at the cottage during our stay, but we knew if we needed anything they'd be happy to help.
At night we enjoyed a bonfire down by the lake, and during the morning we had a great view of the lake from the Muskoka room and the living area. The place was clean and had everything we needed to cook and be comfortable.
We noticed downstairs that there were dvds(no tv,so bring your laptop) games and brochures on activities you could do in downtown Huntsville. It was nice that there would have been things for us to do if the weather had turned out crummy for us.
We would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to take there family on vacation or experience what Huntsville has to offer, such a beautiful town
