Perfect, picturesque, and relaxing getaway -- we loved the unique rustic charm of the cabin. We could sit on the porch and listen to the creek forever. So convenient to Blue Ridge Parkway and many Nelson County attractions. Thank you, Melanie, for a wonderful weekend! We hope to be back soon!
Romantic, Beautiful, and peaceful getaway
My husband and I, along with our six month old, had the most amazing time here this past weekend! I knew it was going to be great based on the pictures and reviews, but it was even better in person. We absolutely loved the back porch view of the creek and forest and could sit out there forever just listening to the creek and enjoying the breathtaking view. The cabin itself was so charming and cozy. I wasn't sure at first what we'd do without internet or tv, but was pleasantly surprised at how great it was to just sit around the fireplace and read books, play games, and hang out. The cabin was very clean and well kept. We were just a 10 min drive to crab tree falls where we went hiking and it was gorgeous. Overall, it was a great experience and we look forward to returning next year!
We did a lot of internet searching for cabins all over Virginia and North Carolina. We decided on this cabin next to the creek. We could not of asked for anything better! My wife and two kids (10 and 11) loved the spot and want to go back! It is exactly what we wanted! A nice cabin in the mountains with a rolling creek nearby. The cabin was well stocked and clean. The creek was awesome with the bridge to access the other side! You could hear the water rolling throughout the entire cabin! We hiked Spy Rock, Crab Tree Falls and Humpback Rock that were all nearby. We are looking forward to return soon!
No central heat. Owner claimed fireplace keeps house cozy. Could not use heater in bathroom it would trip breaker. The least they could do is upgrade electrical panel. And huge gap in front door. Cold blowing in. Too many other places to rent. Worse experience ever!

All reviews for this cabin are 4 or 5 star reviews. This particular guest was problematic from the start. He first said I gave him no instructions. Below is my message copied directly from the VRBO message board days before his arrival: "Mr. _____,
You are probably preparing for your stay at the cabin on Campbells Creek. The address is _____________________. The key will be _________________. There are no grocery stores nearby so come well stocked. There is an outdoor grill. You just need to bring charcoal. There is dry firewood under the tarp. please use it only for the indoor fireplace. Its good wood and NOT meant for the outdoor fire pit. It is going to be cold on saturday. Expected to go down into the 20s. There are some space heaters if you need them and plenty of blankets. If you keep the fire going, the cabin holds the heat nicely. I will leave it up to you if you think you should leave the cabinet doors under the kitchen sink open to keep pipes from freezing and leave a slow drip. It is likely not going to be cold for long enough, but just in case. If you do use the space heaters, use them on different sides of the cabin. Otherwise you may blow a fuse. The fuse box is on the front porch right outside the kitchen.
There is a phone that can receive calls . The number is ______.
The water is well water and with all the rain we've been having it stirs things up. We change the filter right before you arrive but there may be an orange tint to the water. If it becomes a problem, please call me at _____________. Or call ___________ (the cleaning lady who manages the day to day issues) at ________. She is on call this weekend. Sunday looks like a lovely day. Please check out any time you want and enjoy a full day. "
As can be seen, the guests were aware of the cold weather on saturday and of the location of breaker box if they failed to follow instructions. additionally, on Friday, before the cold I spoke with the guest. He was unleasant. I offered the guest a refund if he left before the cold front. He refused and kept on reciting the dimensions of the cabin and his need for central heat. He left filth and garbage behind and broke many house rules. It appeared that he wanted to make trouble and complain more than he wanted to enjoy his stay. I believe the remainder of my reviews speak for themselves and this guest stands alone in his complaints.
It's All About the Creek
Great cabin and the creek is as pretty and peaceful as any ocean view and this property is very very private, unlike most beaches. We could sit all day on the porch if we had longer to stay. We did Crabtree Falls and the children loved the fish hatchery nearby, bring lots of quarters to buy fish food. We had ice cream at Saunder's, the orchards aren't really open to the public, but the market is nice. We enjoyed an evening by the campfire. You can be on the Blueridge Pkwy in a matter of minutes and Wintergreen is very close from there. The owner was great about communicating with me prior to our arrival. There is no cell service so if you cannot do without it or the internet, don't rent this cabin. I will admit it was a bit of an adjustment for us, but the peace and privacy was worth it and did I mention the creek? It was so calming and I could watch it all day. I would have never considered a creek to be "waterfront property" but it is.
Thank you Kevin...you were a most gracious host. There were some kinks to iron out given all the rain this season, but with your good and positive feedback, we think we've made improvements. Hope to see you back.
Rustic get away from it all
We had a great time in this lovely cosy clean cabin. No wifi or cell phone service so really great to disconnect and have family time. It has everything you need to be comfortable. Right on the edge of a flowing creek which the kids loved to wade in and remarkably few bugs considering it's under the trees and next to the water. We loved setting up the campfire, grilling out and sitting on the porch overlooking the creek.
Within a few miles we hiked Crabtree Falls, went horseback riding and drove some scary unpaved mountain roads to get to the Appalachian trail.
Bring all the food and drinks you'll need, charcoal and decent firewood and you'll be all set for a relaxing break. The owner is very responsive and helpful. Thanks Melanie!
