On the approach to George’s Pond the camp road is shaded by a canopy trees. Next, you wind your way through classic stretches of blueberry fields and then back under the canopy of trees. Your vacation is about to begin and you start to feel a sense a slowing of life’s sometimes hectic pace. Pulling into the driveway, this notion is confirmed as the cottage comes into view, surrounded by towering trees and framed by a shimmering, freshwater pond. You have arrived at Robin’s Nest.

Robin’s Nest is nestled on just over 2 private acres with 267’ on George’s Pond. This year round, 2 bedroom cottage sleeps 4 and is fully equipped and furnished to make your vacation a truly memorable experience. The most recent renovations in 2013 & 2014 only enhance your enjoyment.

George’s Pond is noted for its clear, clean waters and proof of its popularity are the generations of owners and renters who keep returning to this idyllic location year after year. The pond itself is 358 acres in size and home to abundant fish populations, mostly brook & brown trout, pickerel, perch & small mouth bass. One of the most popular features on the pond is nearby “Dive Rock”. Dive Rock is a large boulder in the middle of the pond that has an Olympic diving board installed. Folks on the pond love rowing out to Dive Rock and leaping into the warm waters. Dive Rock is not a far paddle from Robin’s Nest.

On the shore of Robin’s Nest, a dock extends out into the pond with a larger platform at its end. Here you can plainly see the gorgeous sand bottom this private, “cookie bite” cove enjoys. Our shore is sheltered and just perfect for children to enjoy the warm, summer water of George’s. Kids aren’t the only fans ~ wildlife loves this cove and the ever bubbling spring, right on our shore. Ducks & ducklings are commonly seen at this spring oasis. Add in a swim float moored in the middle of the cove, a kayak & paddleboat armada for exploring the pond (lifejackets required!) a pondside hammock & fire pit and you’ll see why Robin’s Nest is a unique hideaway for your Maine vacation.

The interior has an eat-in kitchen. A recently installed French door in the kitchen opens onto the deck so the dining area now enjoys views of the pond. The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. Views to the pond from the main living spaces are immediate and very private. The living room has ample space for relaxing, playing games, watching TV or reading a great book.

Heading down the hall from the living room the first room on your right is a full bathroom with laundry facilities which has seen extensive updates and really stands out from what one might expect for “camp” living. It includes a stack washer dryer, combination tub shower, vanity and a fully stocked linen closet with everything you need including beach towels, paper products, laundry detergent and fabric softner. Both bedrooms exude that “cabin” charm and offer a comfortable sized living space. There is a queen bed in the larger bedroom at the end of the hall and two twin beds are in the slightly smaller bedroom. Both bedrooms and the living room have ceiling fans.

A gas fireplace in the living room provides plenty of warmth after a midnight swim or a romantic atmosphere on a rainy evening and the wrap around deck provides a perfect setting to chill out on summer evenings while BBQing with your friends & family.

High speed, wireless internet service is on hand, as is cable TV & phone, though most guests recommend you keep the TV off.

All your shopping needs in Ellsworth are only 15-20 minutes away and we recommend you stock up on your way to camp as there are only small convenience stores nearer the pond. Legendary Acadia National Park is a 40 minute drive, with the village of Bar Harbor a few miles beyond ANP Visitors Center. Even closer, just a mile before you turn off RT. 200 onto Cousins Road is the Downeast Sunrise Trail which stretches from Maine to Key West, FL and allows you to hike or bike through beautiful country side not seen from any main roads. Donnell Pond Public Reserved Lands is a hidden gem of conservation land boasting the same bald eagles, granite peaks, extensive forest hiking and pristine freshwater ponds as Acadia with one thing missing: all of the other visitors! Countless other treasures hidden away in gorgeous Downeast Maine are not far from the doorstep of Robin’s Nest. Maps and more information are at the cottage.

Thank you kindly for considering us for your Maine vacation. Please do not hesitate to contact us today with questions or to make a reservation for your stay.

About Karen Dillon

We have lived on Mount Desert Island since moving here from Connecticut in 1977. Our children grew up here and our grandchildren are natives. We have worked in the hospitality business for over 35 years and are now semi-retired. Finding Robin's Nest was a lucky accident but it has fulfilled our life long dream of having a place on one of Maine's pristine ponds.

Karen Dillon purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Karen Dillon chose Acadia

We have spent time with friends who own a camp just down the way and have always loved this area. Knowing the local area well, we can say with confidence that Georges Pond is a sweet location. Bet you will think the same!

What makes this cottage unique

Robin's Nest came fully furnished, complete with the fire pit, kayaks and paddle boat. What more could one ask for in a camp on Georges Pond? Add a sand beach, a quiet cove, a swim float, a real sense of privacy and we now have everything we ever dreamed of finding in a summer place.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Very enjoyable for a much needed vacation. Cabin had everything I needed right down the loons calling at night. Perfect location for my stay! If I'm ever in the area again, I would not hesitate to stay at Robins nest.

Heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from two magical weeks at Robin's Nest and miss it already. The cottage is clean and comfortable. It's not big but has everything we needed - comfortable beds, laundry, well equipped kitchen, big deck. But the real attraction here is the lake -- crystal clear, sand/gravel bottom, perfect for swimming, kayaking, floating on tubes. We even brought our sunfish sailboat and had some great sails. Many lake properties sit high up on a hill with long stairs or steep hills to get to the water. This house is nearly level with the lake with just a gentle slope; easy to enjoy for all ages and physical abilities and priceless views from the deck, the dock and the yard. We spent half our days enjoying the lake and half at Acadia/bar harbor, about 45 minutes away. Great family memories! We can't wait to return.

All you need!

Very clean, comfortable cottage rental! The house has everything you need to make you feel right at home! The real gem is the outside space. We fished, swam, and kayaked all week. Our kids and dogs loved it! Short drive to Acadia, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Blue Hill!

Robin's Nest is wonderful!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just came back from a week's stay in Robin's nest and had a WONDERFUL time. The view of the lake is beautiful; our boys greatly enjoyed kayaking & paddle boating. This vacation was very enjoyable since we did not have to worry about bringing plates, pots & pans, etc. The house is larger than it appears from the pictures. And we loved going to various spots in Acadia National Park. Hearing the loons in the evening and the early morning made my spirit soar.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

One of our favorite places to visit on vacation is Maine. Now that we have found the Robins Nest we can not wait for our next trip back. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The views were beautiful, the amenities perfect. There was nothing that we wanted that was not available. Bring your food and you are set. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, bbq with friends, roasting marshmallows by the fire, listening to the loons and frogs, walking around the lake, playing board games, putting puzzles together, and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. (We could have lived without the mosquitos. ha! ha!) It was close enough to take a day trip into Bar Harbor and see the sights there. We highly recommend Robins Nest and look forward to returning in the near future.

Wonderful stay at Robin's Nest

  • 5 of 5

I was fortunate to find this listing on VRBO. It has everything we were looking for including privacy, peace and quiet. The only noise we came across were the loons calling in the morning and evening which was music to my ears. Enjoyed sitting on the dock with my evening cocktail and a good book very much . The cabin has everything you would need when away from home. We enjoyed the day trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia which are very dog friendly. Although our dog Reba did not enjoy swimming she did enjoy the nice big yard and just being outside with us. I cooked most of our evening meals in the well equipped kitchen or on the charcoal grille. We did venture over to Ruth & Wimpy's for one dinner which was good, but mostly ate from the fresh offerings in the area. Thank you for letting us stay at your very nice cabin in the woods. We hope to be back again.

Owner's Response: I never thought to respond before as the guests at Robin's Nest have all written so many kind words in our guest book at the cottage and on VRBO but it is time I thanked them. They have experienced that feeling of pure relaxation one gets sitting on the dock or swinging in the hammock listening to the wind in the trees and the call of the loon. Paddling a kayak around the pond then just drifting. Watching the sun rise and the stars light up the night sky. That is what we hoped for when we decided to share Robin's Nest. Thank you all for being the greatest guests we could have asked for and for taking such good care of the cottage during your stays.

The loons returned to the pond in early April. It is now May. The rains have finally stopped and the sun dancing on the water is a welcome sight. The rain did raise the level of the pond and that is a good thing. The trees are starting to green out and the flowers in the big tubs are enjoying the warmth of our longer days.

A bit of info on our area.

Robin's Nest is a destination with everything to make your Maine vacation a memorable experience but should you wish to explore the many interesting places in our area. start with a visit to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island or the Schoodic Peninsula. They are just a 30+ minute drive away. Explore Downeast Maine. Tour the mustard factory, hike or bicycle the 85 mile Downeast Sunrise Trail and if you have your passport take a day trip to Canada and Campobello Island. Check out Eastport and Lubec and be sure not to miss West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, the most eastern point in America.

Reversing Falls, Rouge Bluffs. There are so many interesting places to see in this beautiful part of Maine it would take too long to mention them all.

A drive anywhere, no matter the season, is so beautiful.

Shopping, eating fresh caught lobster at a lobster pound, whale watching aboard one of the tour boats. Museums featuring things from classic automobiles, Native American history and culture to the first telephones. Small galleries featuring local artists abound. Unique shops, a variety of wineries, gardens, great picnic spots along the byways and of course blueberry jam and so much more.

There really is something for everyone.
