Plenty of space, spartan accomodations. Easy access to downtown/French Quarter...

  • 4 of 5

Roomy, comfortable, space for community/fellowship and also privacy. Easily accessible by car to all of New Orleans... and the ferry to French Quarter is very simple. Location is on the fringe of a sketchy neighborhood... but that appears to be the case throughout N.O. I never felt uncomfortable but my wife did. We enjoyed our three nights there, but did not cook in the kitchens.

A perfect home for a family Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

We gathered family members from around the US for a family Thanksgiving get-together in New Orleans. This was our second stay in this lovely home, and it was just as good the second time around. The home is very roomy with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. While we did not do much cooking at the home, we still found the kitchen and the extra refrigerator in the back room to work well for our Thanksgiving dinner with lots of storage room for left-overs. There was plenty of parking on the street near the house. We selected this home in part because it is on the West Bank of New Orleans, where our family member lives, but visitors should be aware that crossing the river takes only a few minutes by car, and the ferry is within walking distance. If we decide to gather the family again in New Orleans, we would love to stay again in this beautiful home.

Overall, fine, a bit less bright and cheery than the photos would suggest.

  • 4 of 5

A few things that would have made it better - sleeps up to 12 (we had 11), but only 5 coffee mugs/cups??? Really? Front door latch should be repaired so that the door stays shut without the deadbolt being locked. Not sure of the NOLA policy, but we had lots of stuff that could have been recycled instead of thrown in the trash. If recycling was available, nothing was mentioned in the house instructions. Otherwise, very good deal in the right area for our activities.

Algiers Point

  • 5 of 5

Housing: Large enough for six grumpy old men. Room for communal gatherings and quiet time alone. Centrally located. Quiet neighborhood. Outdoor patio with covered area and even having TV within enclosed area.

Parking: One off street parking spot with plenty of safe on street parking.

Neighborhood: Quiet as noted above. 1/2 block to adult beverage store, from front porch 2 miles as the arrow flies to full service grocery store. 2 adult beverage institutions with music and 3 eateries (southern, american a pizza pie spot) with 2 spot having taps on site. All food and beverages within a 5 min walk. No hills so you can just amble along.

Transportation: Algier's Point Ferry is about 6 blocks from abode. Costing $1 for seniors, $2 or others/one way. Drops you off at Canal St. ready to jump on streetcar to see the sites. If you miss last ferry, an Uber ride home runs about $12-15 to front door. Ferry shuts down around 21:30 on weekdays and 23:30 on weekends.

Across from ferry you will find: American diner, pizzeria, and the ever needed adult beverage institution. All within 1 block

Renters: Have lots of $1 for the ferry as they only take exact change. Suggest a "Jazzy pass" which can be had at any Walgreens or from street car conductor. The pass comes in 1, 3, 5 days at a cost of $3/day. A great way to see the sights.

Owners: Would be nice to have surge protector in each bedroom area to charge electronics.
