I do have many hobbies, but at the moment I spend my free time mainly in my
garden and in my glass atelier.
As for music, I like as well classical, modern as country, but I enjoy
specifically classical piano music.
We travelled mostly in Europe, but we spent also a several holidays in Canada and
the USA. For us the most interesting part in traveling is meeting new people
and their cultures, enjoying nature and visiting castles.
I work as a glass artist making kiln formed glass objects in my atelier.
I also give workshops with a so called Hot-Pot. This is a very small device which when used in the microwave oven you can reach temperatures high enough to melt glass. In this
way, you can make easily your own glass jewels in a short time and always make
something special in the desired colours to bring into accord with your
It is nice to possess an oven like this, but by attending a workshop you can
already make two pieces of jewelry yourself.
In the former laundrette, next to our house, we established an art gallery in
which we organize exhibitions of glass-art from international artists.
In my own atelier I make jewelry, also on demand, and other glass objects. I
sell my creations in my boutique and a few art galeries.
Anne Spaa purchased this house in 2007
A few years ago my husband Gerard and I moved from the Netherlands into the
beautiful Belgian "Ardennen", because here we felt really at home. The region
were we live in is very beautiful and quiet. The people are kind. We live
together with our three dogs in a house of about 300 years old. It is built in
the typical style of the Ardens and it is a charming warm house, in which it
is a pleasure to live in.
This apartment/house is fully equipped, very comfortable and charming. Besides
that it is situated in an attractive region, so as well suitable for people
who want to be active, as for those who just want to relax and enjoy sitting
in the garden and reading a book.
This location is also perfect for people who need to work quietly, away from
all the hectic circumstances of daily life, in which they normally live.
Writers, artists and managers, shortly everyone who needs new inspiration and
time to unwind in a pleasant and relaxed ambiance.
Our main goal is to make our guests feeling home in this house. We take
pleasure in having them enjoying the region and all the possibilities it
offers. When our guests are happy, so are we!
We had a fantastic weeks stay. The property was exactly as shown in the photos. It was beautiful and we had everything we could possibly need and more. It was lovely not having to buy washing up liquid etc that you would only use a little of. The welcome food pack was a lovely touch and very appreciated. It meant we didn't have to rush out to the supermarket as soon as we arrived. Anne and Gerard were very welcoming. They took the time to show us around their property and said we just had to call if we needed anything else. It was reassuring to know they were there if we needed them.
The property is very well located. The supermarket is only a 10 minute walk and there are boulangeries, restaurants and ice cream parlours on the doorstep, perfect for fresh croissants in the morning and ice cream for dessert in the evening. It is in the centre of the town but you did feel secluded.
The surrounding area is stunning and there are plenty of places to visit. Durbuy, the smallest city in the world was beautiful. We would recommend Ferme de Palogne if you want to go canoeing. It was well organised. You were driven to your starting point and canoed back to the centre where there were showers etc. There is also a restaurant, mini golf, walks, tennis, bike hire. We visited Germany as we were close enough, (a little drive), Aachen, Cologne & Monschau. We also visited Drielandenpunt, where Belgium, Holland & Germany meet.
We would definitely come back if we wanted to visit the area again.
The owners of the property are so welcoming and kind. The home was very comfortable, and was a welcome break from the hustle of big cities. The town itself doesn't have much, but there are several sites and cities within driving distance. I definitely recommend renting a car in order to truly enjoy being in the Belgian countryside. Lovely stay in the countryside!
A must-see attraction is the Mont Sauvage, an Animal Zoo, Safari and See Lions show. Great for children and their parents!
