Home is just as advertised. Beautifully kept up, colonial with modern touches.

We walked in and we're thrilled. The view is incredible. The kitchen had what we needed. The outdoor space off the living room is lovely. There is a small terrace off the master bedroom which is nice for breakfast. The bedrooms are great and having a third bedroom on lower level provides privacy for guests. The street is pretty and it is about a 7 minute walk down to to the center of town. Walking up is a bit of a hike so we took taxi's, but it is walkable. Overall, we were very happy with our choice and would definitely recommend it. Debbie Berman

Stunning Views

  • 4 of 5

My family's stay was quite comfortable and enjoyable. The house is very clean and nicely appointed with plenty of lighting. I cook a lot and the owner took care to ensure that the kitchen was stocked with good knives and plenty of pans. He even provided a crock pot per my request. A carton of milk, a dozen eggs and plenty of coffee were provided to get us off to a great start! The housekeeper and gardener came three days a week.

The spectacular views are as advertised. We enjoyed many evenings on the main terrace watching the sun set over the mountains across the valley. The house offers 3 terraces - rooftop, master bedroom and main terrace off of the living room. There is a door at the lowest level of the house which, if it were not locked, would lead to an enchanting garden. I find it curious that the house, which is new construction, was built with a door to a garden that is not accessible to its occupants.

With a refundable damage deposit, we were allowed to bring our medium-sized dog.

The house has a garage large enough for a VERY small car. If your car is larger than a compact, it will not fit! Plus, there is a planter opposite the street from the garage which makes it extremely difficult to maneuver the car out of the garage. There is a hotel below the house that we inquired into parking our car. Unfortunately, its parking lot was full. We were able to work out a deal with the neighbors across the street to park our car in a vacant area.

The neighbors across the street from the house are very nice. They have several children who played with my 11 year old son. The families like to congregate in the street socializing every afternoon from about 4 o'clock to bedtime. Much chatter and laughter can be heard.

The only negative that I can say about the house is that the windows and doors allow the sounds of the neighbors and city below to pass easily into the rooms. San Miguel is a very noisy town with church bells ringing all hours of the day and night, fireworks blasting at all hours of the day or night, roosters crowing beginning at about 3 a.m., dogs barking, children playing in the street, bands marching in town, etc. If you treasure peace and quiet, this is not the house for you. But if you don't mind hearing laughter and church bells, your stay will be divine.

Owner's Response: I am happy they loved the home and the amazing views. San Miguel is a town thats full of life. Church bells ring throughout the day and sometimes in the night! Fireworks, music for every festival. Children laughing. playing in the street. All of this is the charm of and why most travelers love San Miguel. The garage is small and designed for a smaller car. I had told them before they booked the house and gave them suggestions for alternative parking. They pulled their SUV into the garage and this created some issues. Thank you, Frank

Nice but patio access curtailed by neighbour

  • 2 of 5

Pretty/spacious house, absentee owner very nice, good location, marvelous maid service, appliances worked. BUT the rooftop patio is off limits. The next door neighbor claims it is his. He sends the maintenance man over when you've gone out [everyone (maid, maintenance man, owner, neighbor) has keys to the place it seems] to block your access to the patio with a heavy flower pot. If you step over the flower pot you are treated to a visit from said neighbor who will intimidate, argue and yell at you, your wife, your friend and your four-year old child. He will declare you have the view from the rooftop but not the rooftop itself. You are ONLY allowed to look across the rooftop toward San Miguel centro. The highly unpleasant encounter will put a big damper on your holiday mood. None of this is made clear to you in advance.

Owner's Response: HI All, there has been some confusion in regards to an area off the living room terrace. There is a terrace off of the living room that has a table and seating for 6-8 and an alcove sitting area as well. This terrace is adjacent to a bricked roof area of my neighbors guest house and can seem very inviting. We have an agreement that neither him nor I can use this area and the view will never be abstracted in any way. I have a 2nd amazing terrace thats off the Master bedroom and an even more spectacular roof top terrace on the upper roof. The locks have been changed to make sure only the housekeeper and the gardner have access through the main entrance. Please feel free to ask me any questions. Aloha
