I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and came to B.C. in the early days of Kitimat shortly after my marriage. I have lived in Alert Bay for over 50 years and I served on village council for 25 years and I have always been actively involved with the community.( mainly tourism). I held numerous positions with the union of B.C municipalities (U.B.C.M.) and the association of Vancouver Island Municipalities (A.V.I.C.C.). I had 9 children who were all raised on Cormorant Island. They are scattered all over Canada now. I love our historic old community with its colorful past and characters and enjoy sharing my stories and knowledge with our visitors. My husband and I have been married close to 60 years.
owner/ Maxine Williams purchased this apartment in 1994
The building is a historic building (customs House), built from the lumber first milled here In Alert Bay from first growth Fir. It has housed( over the years) the customs , telephone, and telegraph offices and has seen many people pass through its doors
We are located right down town within walking distance of most attractions and shops.
The rental was perfect for our purpose. I was with my father, son and his friend on a fishing trip. The space allowed us separate bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, TV's, internet and laundry. The owner, Maxine, was kind enough to provide access to a locked freezer outside for all the fish we caught.
The furnishings a little older but everything was clean and in good shape. The home is located on 'main street' right beside the grocery store and the tourist information.
I would gladly stay there again.
The suite was amazing, even with five of us staying there was plenty of room. Cozy kitchen and living room, with a lovely patio that offers a great view of the water and the wildlife (we saw a bald eagle on several occasions posting up on the community centre just outside our place). I wouldn't change a thing!
The property was very maintained. Owner ( Maxine Williams) was very helpful and made sure our stay was comfortable. It was a pleasure to sit out on the patio and enjoy the beautiful view of alert Bay. I will be staying here whenever I have to visit Alert Bay.
Our family of 6 found this rental online and right from the very start to the finish Maxine was splendid in making our stay enjoyable. The unit is very comfortable with great views centrally located to all things on Cormorant Island. Everything was as advertised and the laundry facilities included were an added bonus. The décor is charming, though the kitchen could use a few more utensils & cookware but was easily manageable. Definitely a recommended place and we'll make plans to return.
My wife and I came back to Alert Bay to visit family over Christmas but wanted some space as the house was a bit cramped for us. We were recommended to check out this rental by relatives and were glad we did. A phone call to the owner and our reservation was confirmed instantly. We dealt with a very interesting woman named Maxine who knew everyone in town as well as all my relatives and went out of her way to make sure our stay was very comfortable. She sent her son with the keys to greet us when we arrived at the rental and he showed us where everything was. Even though it was Christmas eve Maxine assured us not to hesitate to call if we needed anything at all. She even invited us to join her family for dinner on Christmas Eve but we had to decline as we were already spending it with our own relatives. The rental is located in the middle of town very close to the ferry and shopping. It overlooks the ocean with fantastic views and is only a few feet from the beach. My wife and I did a little "beach combing" on boxing day to look for Indian beads that are very common there and had a wonderful day. The bedroom was very comfortable and the mattress was perfect. Not too hard or soft which was perfect for my back problem. The bathroom was perfect with a large soaker tub that my wife really enjoyed, and they include a full sized washer and dryer which allowed us to do all our laundry and not bother the relatives. The kitchen is a bit small but has a fridge, stove and microwave as well as all the cups, glasses, dishes, pots, pans and cutlery that a person could ever need to stay here for an extended period of time. The general appearance of the rental is styled after the original residence but has all the modern conveniences of a much more expensive place without the big pricetag. We were so happy that we chose this place and our stay couldn't have been better. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Alert Bay who wants a more personal and cozy experience. It was so quiet and peaceful to get away to the Old Customs House!
Alert Bay has a series of safe, well maintained , easy hiking trails through first and second growth forest. Good for Bird Watchers , nature enthusiasts and photographers..
