About the property

Bastide Bellegarde Is A Country Style Villa In The South Of France

Bastide Bellegarde is a country style villa in the south of France with a private pool and 7000 m2 of private land with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and the Pyrenees mountains.

The spacious interior of this property is newly decorated in an elegant, contemporary and natural style. There is a large living area with an integrated kitchen and a modern dining room with views of the garden and vineyards.

The house comprises 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (3 en-suite), a large double living-room and dining room and spacious kitchen.

On the ground floor there are two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and their own terrace. There is an open kitchen with a traditional six hotplates range cooker, dishwasher, microwave, and an American fridge serving crushed ice and water. The lounge area is spacious with satellite flat screen TV, sound system, free wi-fi and comfortable seating. The dining room is modern with views across the garden. The terrace is accessible via 3 double doors.

The first floor offers two large double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms (which can be converted into large double bedrooms), one en-suite bathroom and one bathroom with contemporary standing bath and walk-in shower. Views across the country, vineyards and mountains from all the bedrooms.

Facilities include: internet access, private outdoor pool, air conditioning, TV, DVD player, satellite TV and WiFi.

Bastide Bellegarde is situated in the heart of the Cathare country, 30km south of Carcassonne, 100km from Toulouse and 100km from the Mediterranean coast. The nearest village is Belveze-du-Razes (3 km). Guests can enjoy golf at Domaine d'Auriac in Carcassonne, and skiing at Mont d'Olmes, which is 50km away.

The nearest railway station is Limoux.

The nearest airport is in Carcassonne (CCF) (25km). Alternatively, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) is 93km away.

The Aude boasts two UNESCO listed landmarks: the fortified city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi. The Aude is also home to a 100 km section of the Canal du Midi, which has an impressive 235km length in total.

Guests can enjoy exceptional architecture in the local area, with several medieval castles in Cathar Country. Catharism was a religious dissident sect developed in 13th century Languedoc. It was fought against in the Albigensian Crusade (1209) and eradicated in the 14th century, but castles such as those in Peyrepertuse, Quéribus and Villerouge still exist.

Hire a boat and enjoy a slow journey down the Canal du Midi to the local town. The greenery provides a beautiful backdrop to the birds and wildlife.

The Languedoc is one of France’s sunniest areas, with fine sandy beaches and seaside resorts including: Narbonne-Plage, La Palme and Port La Nouvelle.

Of the 3,000km of designated hiking paths in the Aude, the 200km Cathar Trail, which runs from the Mediterranean to the Pyrénées, is highly recommended. Discover a wide variety of landscapes with a number of medieval castles appearing along the way.

The Carcassonne Festival, held each summer, brings together over 100 performances, including opera, dance, theatre and music, most of which you can watch free of charge. For music lovers, Fugue en Aude Romane spans two weeks in July and involves a series of concerts held in abbeys.

The coastline of Narbonne is one of the best windsurfing spots in the world, and offers excellent conditions for kite surfers and kite flying.

One of the largest local markets is in Carcassonne, held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at Place Carnot in the town centre. Castelnaudary has a food market on Monday morning and the market at Lézignan-Corbières takes place in the centre of the commune on Wednesday mornings. Visit Limoux on a Friday for more fresh local produce. Mirepoix: this magnificent market is held every Monday morning throughout the year. As well as fresh home grown produce you can buy antiques, clothing, wine, trinkets, in fact just about anything. Musicians play around the cafés which surround the square. Not to be missed!

Pro tip: look out for the ‘Pays Cathare’ quality mark, which identifies a range of quality products and services offered by local people in the Aude.

Comfortable villa in a superb location

  • 4 of 5

We has a very good stay in the villa and enjoyed the comfort offered. The help and advise received in front of our stay is very appreciated and has helped us in finding just the perfect wines and cycling routes. Both Fanny and Isabelle were very 'welcoming' and did make us feel at ease.

Some minor points of attention:

- Warm water availability is just at the edge if someone takes a bath and all others want to take a shower;

- Roses at the terrace need a cutting.

If you search a villa with comfort in a nice and calm setting, this is really a place to be recommended!

We spent two weeks at Villa Bellegarde at the end of August/begining of September 2015. Fanny had been extremely helpful with our booking and all information. Thank you for that. On arrival we received a very warm welcome from Isabelle, the manager; a lovely. friendly lady. And the welcome bottle of sparkly Limoux was 'superbe'. The villa was gorgeous; especially the large open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. Was just lovely; views from every window. Most evenings we did eat indoors [was very, very windy.] So we would just open the french doors to the front and ate whilst having glorious views to open fields, vineyards and mountains. What more could we ask for?. Having said it was very windy, we certainly loved it during the days we spent sunbathing around the pool. With the extremely hot temperatures and the wind; it was perfect sunbathing weather. The village of Belvezes -du- Razes is a gem. You don't really need to go to any big supermarket as there is a 8 to 8 one in the heart of the village and has everything you need. And the butcher there was fantastic; very friendly but amused by the amount of meat we were constantly buying. Well! we were a big family with big appetites. The patisserie had some delicious 'tartes'. We were there most days. There is a lot to see around the area, which we have visited in previous years. This year we went back to Carcassonne and enjoyed a different boat trip on the Canal du Midi, taking in views of the medieval city itself. We also did Le Train Rouge from Axat into the Pyreenes, Well worth doing. And our Children even managed to fit in a trip to Andorra. We all had a fantastic, restful, recharging holiday. Thank you so much Fanny for the opportunity of staying at your beautiful villa and hoping we can return.
