The dining area opens to a wonderful, 550 square foot patio with a built-in fire pit. There is plenty of seating outside on the patio for the family to gather, mingle, and grill, while enjoying the fire! On either side of the house there is a large yard for the kids to play. The home sits on a double lot on a very lightly traveled corner.

There are two bedrooms downstairs, one is very large and one is smaller. Both have a queen bed. The large bedroom has a fireplace and two built-ins.

There are two full bathrooms, one down and one up. Both are very nice and large. The upper bathroom has a shower and a whirlpool tub.

The living room is large and has two full-size couches, a love-seat, and a large round chair that seats two people. It has a 47' brand new 1080p smart tv.

There are three bedrooms up. All are large. One has a king bed and a twin bed. One has two double beds. One has a queen and a twin.

On the finished third floor, there are four twin beds, a table and four chairs, about 6 bean bag chairs, some games and puzzles, and a TV with a play station 3.

All told, 14 can sleep in beds in the five bedrooms in beds. There is "bonus" space that can sleep an additional 2 adults, and an additional 2 to 4 children.

This is a lovely home where family can gather and enjoy a wonderful week in South Haven! If you enjoy family cooking, dining, and enjoying time outdoors on the patio, this home is for you!

About John J. Frost

I live in South Haven approximately one block from this home. You'll see me riding my bike and walking in the neighborhood with my kiddos during your stay! I have even been persuaded by certain groups to stop in for a refreshing beverage, if I happen to ride by while they're out on the patio enjoying the fire pit!

John J. Frost purchased this house in 2014

Why John J. Frost chose Southwest

It's beautiful, the yard is wonderful, it's plenty big to host large groups, the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and the location is great--only about 3 blocks to town and about 6 to the beach!

Great location = Needs a thorough cleaning

  • 3 of 5

This is the 2nd year we've come north into Michigan..and the 2nd time we've stayed in South Haven. Love the area. This home's location is great.

We had 8 adults and 4 children with one infant (10 months old).

The house has "Old Home Charm". The living room really isn't large enough for everyone to be in it at once....but, we spent more time on the patio than anywhere else. I did sweep the patio down and wash it off the first day of our arrival. It would be a good idea to blow this off every time the yard is mowed.

The "Master" bedroom is right off the kitchen, so whenever anyone got up with a child, it was as if they were in the room with us:-)

One item to note, there are no closets or dressers. You are basically living out of your suitcases for the week you are there. There was a small hall closer on the lower level but it housed a dirty mop and spiders.

The reason for the three stars is the lack of cleanliness of the home. We had to mop the floors before we could let the 10 month old down. The refrigerator had had something spilled in it, which we had to wipe down prior to putting our items away. The entire house needed a good cleaning.

The prior renters must have had a birthday party, because there was all this white tape on the top of the door, that didn't get removed. We would have removed it, but feared the paint might come off with the tape..... I emailed the property manager regarding the lack of cleanliness.....he apologized and made an excuse about his normal cleaning crew, not being available...but didn't even offer to refund my cleaning deposit.

We did enjoy the sound system = hard wired speakers throughout the home and the patio. Those were a big plus.

Unfortunately I would not stay here again. I doubt that I'd stay in any of this manager's rentals. It's a shame, had this been cleaned properly, it'd be so charming.

Big house with plenty of space.

  • 3 of 5

Nice house that could use some fixings. Lots of space for kids to play and adults can relax. Wish it was closer to the beach.

Perfect location, great kitchen

  • 3 of 5

This house is in a great location, nice walk to downtown South Haven. We had people in our party with knee issues and one 85 yo so we also did some driving and parking (we always found parking). What makes this house great is the kitchen. It is very large, updated and could accommodate many people working in it with plenty of space. Two bathrooms with 17 people was a challenge, but we managed. Very helpful to have the toilets separate. One toilet had a broken chain, so our "handy man" of the group fixed it. It could use some mirrors in the bedrooms and hooks to hang towels. Also, we had some ants to deal with-but that can happen anywhere. The kitchen table was perfect for eating or playing cards with a large group. The third floor (it had 6 twin beds) was too creepy for our little kids and even our adult "kids" only spent one night up there. Several bedrooms were big enough to accommodate air-mattresses (which we brought). Great fire pit and a good amount of outdoor chairs. Charcoal grill, although the owner had told me gas. The house itself looks like a "work-in-progress" and is definitely not perfectly rehabbed, but it suited our multi-generational group very well for a 3 day weekend.

We had a good time.

  • 4 of 5

We were very pleased with location and things to do in the area. The house still needs some remodeling. Especially the outside. We enjoyed the large yard, and set up net for badminton, volleyball and a corn hole game. The beach was within walking distance, but too far if having to carry chairs, towels, blankets, etc. The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner, especially the floors around sinks and the laundry machines. Otherwise enjoyed the Victorian atmosphere of the home.
