Completely Renovated 2 Bedroom, 2 1/2 Bath In Santa Ana Neighborhood
The property has been completely renovated including new plumbing and electricity which was completed in 2014. It consists of 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a very well-equipped open kitchen with new appliances, granite countertops and an additional sink with a flitration system for drinking water, a spacious dining and living area with beamed 20ft ceilings to keep the home cool under the yucatecan sun.
The upstairs bedroom has an adjoining bathroom with local stone finishes and a tub and shower. The room has a queen-size bed, closet, chest of drawers and opens to a very large terrace which overlooks the garden.
The lower bedroom also has a queen-size bed, adjoining bathroom with shower. All faucets in the home are of high-quality and there is special pump installed to ensure excellent water pressure, as well as a water softener system. The lower bedroom has a candleplace, a romantic feature which provides the feel of a fireplace, without the unneccesary heat. This bedroom and bathroom have high, beamed ceilings.
Throughout the living and dining area, common area, stairs and bedrooms you'll find the beautiful 'tapetes' (decorative cement rugs) typical of the original flooring found in colonial homes in the historic center. The doors, windows, closets and cabinetry are all made of cedar by local carpenters. The flooring in the kitchen is Saltillo tile. The flooring on the terrace and patio is artisanal clay. There is extensive stone work in the home and patios even some exposed 'mamposteria' (heavy stone walls) for aestetic purposes.
The home has a washer and dryer located in the garden area.
The covered patio off the kitchen is the perfect place to enjoy a snack or meal while you enjoy the view of the garden. The pool and garden area is a fantastic place to unwind after a long day exploring the city and area or simply to spend the day lounging by and in your filtered glass-tiled plunge pool. The high walls of the back yard provide complete privacy while you enjoy the deck chairs, or relax in the pool. The garden is home to two large fruit trees and many plants which help to create your oasis in the historic center. Welcome home!

We prefer not to "nickle and dime" guests. Compare other rentals- electricity policy- cleaning fee- extras? We charge rent- which includes gas, parking, weekly light housekeeping, taxes, internet, cable, filtered drinking water-you get the idea ; ). The rent includes NORMAL use electricity. (explanation follows!)
Security/Excess Electrical Usage Deposit. A $300 deposit payable in cash ON CHECK-IN- is held until check-out. IN TWO SEASONS ALL guests received ALL of their deposit back on check-out by returning the home in excellent condition and making good use of the electricity. (turning off when you leave the home) Any questions please ask! Our Canadian guests may leave the deposit in CAD$ to avoid changing currency. We return the same bills when you check out. (assuming normal use)
Guest Cancellation Policy: If Guest wishes to cancel his/her reservation prior to sixty (60) days before the Check-In Date; the Reservation Deposit will be refunded in full, minus a $100 service charge, provided that the Homeowner is able to re-rent the property. If, however, Homeowner is unable to re-rent the property, the entire Reservation Deposit is forfeited. No cancellations will be permitted less than sixty (60) days prior to the Check-in Date. We are a small operation and unable to absorb the losses for dates that aren't rented, but blocked on our calendar. If you believe that you might be cancelling, we recommend guests purchase travelers insurance for protection.

About the owner: Casa del Confidente is owned by a Merida-born businessman currently living in Cancun and a US-born manager of the property. This home was remodeled, renovated and decorated specifically with our guests in mind. Our goal was to provide a well-equipped home for travelers to enjoy, that would be decidedly Yucatecan. ALL furnishings, cookware, linens, appliances... (everything!) has been purchased to provide the best possible experience for our guests. As such you'll find the home is nicely furnished, well-appointed and great care has been taken to update and modernize the property while respecting the charming aspects of a typical colonial home in Merida.
Why the Owner Chose Centro, Mérida, Yuc., Mexico:
Casa del Confidente is very much a Yucatecan home. There are features in every room and the patio that affords guests a decidedly unique vacation experience in Merida. Best of all, the home is managed by the owners. This allows us to provide the type of service and attention that our guests deserve. We purchased this home in 2008 because of it's proximity to Santa Ana park and the city center. It's convenient, and while Calle 62 is a busy street with bus service (7 pesos per ride). Every effort has been taken to minimize street noise, by installing special glass Doors and Window on the street side of the home. Since the home is located in the bustling city center, The bedrooms have both been situated so that outside noise is minimized. Evenings and weekends are generally very peaceful in the neighborhood as it is residential.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
In spite of the fact that the home was in dire need of TLC, the owners saw the potential and liked the fact that it isn't far from where Alejandro grew up in the historic center. The owners designed and supervised the construction and renovation. Special care was taken to leave the home with every modern convenience, while integrating features that make this home unmistakably Yucatecan. Guests will note several features, including the 'truck' (typical railroad cart used to transport hennequen and other goods) raised to form the kitchen island workspace. Woodwork, metalwork, decorative glasswork, (lamps as well as a stained glass window) and masonry features were all designed and commissioned by local artisans. Main floor doorway borders as well as murals found in the 1/2 bath and master bath were hand painted by a very talented local artist. You'll find this area of the historic center to be the perfect base for your time in Merida. You'll be mere blocks from the famous Paseo de Montejo, with it's restaurants, museums, and activities. Noche Mexicana ( each Saturday night) is about 4 blocks away, Thursdays in Santa Lucia (serenata) is 6 blocks. The slow food market on Sats. is 6 blocks
