This newly renovated ranch-style home is roomy, comfortable and easily accommodates six people. Most of the best restaurants and shops that Highlands has to offer are within an easy walk into town. The 33’ family room provides an airy, open concept and features a cathedral ceiling and tall picture windows at the front and back of the house. The family room has a cozy, conversation area in front of the fireplace, plus additional comfortable seating with a 50” flat screen TV, and a dining area with seating for eight. The open concept continues into the breakfast room which provides a desk/work center with a 32” TV. The kitchen is well-equipped and easily handles family and holiday meals. It has granite counter-tops, new cabinets and new stainless steel appliances. There is a screened porch and deck off the back of the house. The parking area can accommodate three cars.

All the bedrooms have comfortable, posturepedic beds. The master bedroom is serene and tranquil with a king bed, walk-in closet and adjoining bath with double sinks and a tub/shower combination. The second bedroom (king bed) and the third bedroom (twin beds) share a hall bathroom with a tub/shower combination.

The walk-to-town convenience is hard to beat! Main Street is a treasure-trove of restaurants, shops and activities, all within a short, easy walk from our house. Picturesque Harris Lake, where the ducks provide non-stop entertainment, is half a block away. You can enjoy fishing from the shore (catch and release only). Lakeside Restaurant, one of Highlands’ most popular fine-dining establishments, is located right on Harris Lake. Only one block away from Harris Lake is Main Street where you will find the nationally acclaimed Old Edwards Inn & Spa, Mountain Fresh Grocery & Grill, Kelsey-Hutchinson City Park, Town Square, unique shops, art galleries, churches, and award-winning restaurants clustered within the surrounding blocks. Also on Main Street, just a stone's throw away, is the Hudson Library, the Highlands Nature Center, and trailhead to Sunset Rock. Less than a mile away is the Highlands Recreational Center with a year-round, heated and covered swimming pool. In addition to enjoying the small-town charm and casual sophistication, Highlands is located in one of the coolest micro-climates in the SE (4,100 altitude). The cool summer temperatures make Highlands the perfect place to enjoy golfing, hiking, biking, and all your favorite outdoor activities. Beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails abound in this area. Of course great shopping at Highlands’ many one-of-a-kind boutiques is a favorite activity too!

The house is nestled amongst beautiful, trees and native Rhododendrons. We love the natural setting, beautiful birds and flora. To be able to enjoy nature, peaceful privacy and still be only 2 1/2 blocks to downtown is truly a gift!

Why Sharon & Bill Black chose Smoky Mountains

We had been looking for a vacation home for several years but it took only one visit to Highlands to know this was the perfect place for us. At the top of our list was to find a house very close to town and an easy walk to all of the best restaurants, shops and activities. Harris Lake Hideaway was the perfect fit for us!

Every season in Highlands is unique. We love the cooler temperatures during the summer; air conditioning is rarely needed! Fall in Highlands is spectacular! The crisp fall days and vibrant colors make it a perfect time to visit. Springtime brings the gentle warming of temperatures and burst of new flowers and leaves. The cooler summers, glorious falls and beautiful springs are reason enough to visit Highlands. However, when you add the friendly people, beautiful mountains and wide variety of cultural and recreational activities, Highlands is a combination that is hard to beat. There is always something fun going on!

What makes this house unique

One of the reasons we fell in love with this house was not only the location but the beautiful, over-sized private lot. The house is nestled amongst beautiful, trees and native Rhododendrons. We love the natural setting, beautiful birds and flora. To be able to enjoy nature, peaceful privacy and still be only 2 1/2 blocks to downtown is truly a gift!


Car: not necessary

Highland's Recreation Center offers a gym and a heated, covered pool which is opened year round. Ice skating rink during the winter is available in Kelsey Park. During summer months, live concerts in Town Square on Friday nights and in Kelsey Park on Saturday nights. Large July 4th fireworks display. Farmer's Markets every Saturday morning in Kelsey Park during the summer. Highlands Motoring Festival is June 9-12th, Home & Garden Tour in July. Chamber Music Concerts on Fridays from June 26-August 7th, Twilight 5K Aug. 20th, Dazzling Dahlia Festival on Sept. 8-10th, Culinary Weekend is November 10-13th. Christmas Tree Lighting in Town Square on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Parade on Dec. 3rd.

Perfect for 2 couples! We stayed a weekend with friends for the Chamber Music Festival and found this house to be ideal. It was close enough to town to walk, it was quiet, and it was beautiful. The decor was sophisticated without being invasive and the hostess had thought of everything. I have allergies and found a box of tissues in every single room! the kitchen was much better equipped than mine. We only ate breakfast and lunch at the house and were able to sit at the table on the screened porch once the day warmed up (breakfast inside). There were plenty of games and things to occupy you, but we spent all our time out during the day since the weather was perfect. We will definitely return!

Beautiful Home, Great Location

Sharon & Bill's home was very comfortable for our family of 5. We loved the feel of being in the forest, and the great living room, kitchen, and screen porch. All the lights were clearly labeled, and basic supplies were thoughtfully provided. And the location can't be beat: 5 minute walk to Mountain Fresh Grocery and downtown Highlands. We would definitely stay here again.

Secluded retreat

This home was the perfect location for our visit to Highlands. It was within walking distance to town, the Nature Center, and Sunset Rock. When we weren't enjoying the area, we were enjoying the comforts of the house. The lush greenery provided so much privacy and the screened porch was utilized throughout the day. We had several meals on the porch after preparing our food in a well equipped kitchen! We would definitely love to return in the future.

Beautiful, carefully appointed cabin near Harris Lake

This three bedroom home was a perfect spot for our week away. There is very little the owners had not anticipated to make our stay relaxing and convenient. Although we had many of our meals in wonderful Highlands, we could have prepared anything in the lovely well supplied kitchen.

Written, clear instructions for use of everything allowed us to be at home right away.

Bedrooms and living areas were beautifully and comfotably decorated. Everything was updated and in excellent condition. The screened porch was especially terrific. We spent cool rainy parts of each day and sunny moments relaxing there and could walk into town in ten minutes tops.

The house was just right for us for a quiet but convenient vacation. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful and we thank them so much for this little gem of theirs.

Great Home in a Great Location

We really enjoyed this home. This is truly a home and not just a house. It is well furnished with everything that you need for your stay. The communication with the owner was excellent and she even left birthday cupcakes in the refrigerator for your daughter. The location is perfect as it is only a block and a half away from main street. We were able to walk to breakfast at Mountain Fresh and to all shops downtown. Great Experience!

This home is a fantastic way to experience Highlands!!

Our three day visit was a terrific success because of this house. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is so well stocked it invites you to stay home and cook. One couple had never been to Highlands and said when we return we want this house again. It rained almost all the time we were there and was chilly so we spent a good bit of the time in the living room with the fireplace going catching up with our friends. I can't imagine spending the three days with each couple in a hotel room. It feels like you are at home.
