Great Time!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I had a great time. Bruce and Shirlee were very friendly and informative as this trip was both for pleasure, and a little job hunting for my daughter who is thinking of making a move to Phx area. They had many suggestions and tips for us. We would not hesitate to return and stay with them again!

Delightful time!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10-day stay in Waddell close to golf, baseball and plenty of hiking trails. This property is very quiet and peaceful; I loved morning coffee poolside. Our hosts were super! Many thanks to Bruce and Shirley; we hope to return.

second time back....

  • 5 of 5

This was our second, month long stay with Bruce and Shirley. Bruce even saved my husband's home made walking stick since our last stay and it was waiting for our return. We took three side trips to Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Tucson during our stay. Every day, we walked through the neighborhoods of Waddell and just relaxed in this inviting setting. White Tank State Park is nearby and we enjoyed our hikes through it. The room was most comfortable and a computer area was added since last year, which my husband loved....especially during March Madness. We cooked most our meals in but were offered a grilling area if we wanted. Laundry facilities are also offered at no cost which is important on a month long stay in addition to the convenience of having these facilities a few steps away. We enjoyed picking and using the fresh lemons from the back yard. I have already recommended this property to a couple back home. It is well maintained, clean, and most comfortable. Suggestions to improve upon your stay are always welcomed by the owners. I love Waddell and Bruce and Shirlee.

Not for Seniors

  • 2 of 5

We arrived greeted by owner and her three dogs, we got out of our truck with our Yorkie,

and the owner said (oh I didn't know you had a dog). we paid a pet deposit, so you would assume we had a pet. This is basically a converted two car garage. The closet is a entertainment center with a cloths pole added. The table is a tall. table with four tall backless bar stools. No garbage disposal,, no dish washer, no oven, single sink. Very nice

pans sure they were new. The toaster oven was a toaster, with a little drawer that pulled out

and you could bake a couple of bread sticks or two large pieces of bread (see pictures). There is a crockpot that we used a great deal of the time. When cooking the kitchen gets extremely warm as there aren't any windows. The is a window air-conditioner and heater combination .

The bed was confortable , however the two small sofa chairs were terrible ( we bought two

small wicker chairs) when you sat down, we had difficulty getting back up. If you should have children visiting there were built in bunk beds. If you are planning on having company

it should be on a beautiful warm day so you could sit outside. There is a washer and dryer that is in a hallway between the owners residence and the guest house. We were there six weeks, time went fast, but we were gone everyday, if you are someone that enjoys laying in

bed reading or watching TV. this is your kind of place. When you go out the front there is a

road with a view of the White Tank Mountains about a mile a cross, no hiking trails, just desert. the pool is nice however it is just to sit by not anything you would want to get in. The couple that we rental from were very nice, but unit was not at all what we expected.

Owner's Response: The majority of the owner’s guests have been seniors, the majority of which have been very happy & found the space to be very comfortable. The guest house is cozy & comfortable, with no real stairs- as well as a shower with a low step, ideal for seniors, which are the majority of the owner’s guests & return guests. While there is not a full kitchen, there is stove top, toaster oven, fridge- the kitchen is fully equipped for light cooking- as advertised…it is a space that is very comfortable for 1 or 2 persons, with adorable bunk beds for occasional visitors….perhaps it was not the right fit for these particular guests, however, they did not make the owners aware of this during their stay. The guests did mention the chairs were uncomfortable- however, when attempting to rectify, the guests told the owners not to worry, that they purchased their own chairs, which they would use in their home. Still, the owners have since replaced/upgraded the chairs, based upon feedback- they are continually making improvements, additions, as it is important to them that guests are happy! The owners were especially generous hosts to the guests, often going out of their way- and therefore were very surprised to hear- and particularly, when not made aware during the stay that they were unhappy for any reason. Furthermore, the guests asked the owners to waive the pet clean during their stay & were resistant to walking thru the guest house upon departure- where the owners found it in less than satisfactory condition, requiring extra cleaning. While the owners are enthusiastic hosts, who have appreciated all of their guests, for several reasons, they would not welcome this particular guest back.

Great Location, Great Rental, Great Owners

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one month on this property and we were more than comfortable. Two weeks into our stay, we liked it so well we booked for 2016. We enjoyed the rural setting yet we were close to Phoenix and all it has to offer. While there, we went to spring training games, a hockey game, two zoos, two state/local parks and the botanical garden. Bruce and Shirlee (the owners) were gracious hosts and we enjoyed our many chats with them. Because we live in a rural area, Phoenix traffic on I-10 and the loops around Phoenix were a challenge but we learned the street grid system and could avoid the hectic traffic if time was not an issue. The nearby town of Surprise has grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. We weren't even home yet and were missing the great weather. We look forward to our next year's visit with Bruce and Shirlee.
