About Sara Elena

¡Hola! All this is because three people love each other; Nathalie (our daughter who enjoys hiking, SCUBA diving and long walks to the refrigerator), Ara (Nat's dad loves the Oakland A's and Hunter S. Thompson) & Sara (Nat's mom feels there is just not enough wine in this world) so please meet our familia. We live in the back house, which is 'upstairs' (68 to be exact). We love to travel, food, wine and the outdoors, but most of all we love helping our guests explore and enjoy the Central Coast.

¡Salud!

Sara Elena purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Sara Elena chose Central Coast

Our dear guests say it best: "You can tell from the moment you walk in the front door that the owners have poured their heart and soul in making Casa San Miguelito a special place." And, we have. This is -- and continues to be -- a true labor of love. We are NOT a typical vacation rental: We want all our guests to feel special and a part of our CSM familia. Therefore, we try to make their experience an enjoyable, everlasting memory from the moment they receive their Official Welcome Letter, that details what you can expect, to the "Until Your Next Visit" thank-you note and special gift that lets each guest know how appreciative we are that they chose CSM for their special stay!

What makes this cottage unique

It's quite a funny story why we chose to buy this property because, as we share with each guest, we feel like Casa San Miguelito in Avila Beach really chose us! Like many of our guests, we didn't even know Avila Beach existed before a chance turn-off of Highway 101. The Beach Boys sang about Pismo Beach, but in our opinion, the real gem is Avila. Little did we know the tremendous support we would receive from the locals in watching us rehabilitate this beautiful beach cottage (mostly done by the three of us) and how living in this small, quaint community would remind us about being polite to everyone, putting your worries into perspective, taking time to breath in the fresh air ... and being grateful. Our sincere hope is that our guests, after meeting us and experiencing one of the last historical beach homes in AB, feel the same way! Fortunately, they do and that reminds us of why we chose this special part of paradise!

You can feel the love

  • 5 of 5

We had such a relaxing and cozy visit at Casa San Miguelito ("CSM"). Sara and Ara really have infused love into every inch of this cute beach cottage. It's impeccably decorated, and you can tell that Sara is passionate about making her guests feel right at home. Comfy beds, bathroom fully stocked with toiletries, and - maybe it sounds funny, but I fell in LOVE with the blow dryer. The cottage is a hop, skip, and a jump to the beach, and the locals are so welcoming and mellow. We had a great time exploring the beach (there are even towels and beach chairs waiting to be used just inside the door of the cottage!), and the folks at Hula Hut spent well over a half hour shooting the breeze with us and passing us samples of ice cream to taste. (This was quite a highlight for our 10 year old daughter). Ocean Grill was a show stopper - exquisite food, such warm and attentive service, a romantic location with a beautiful view. And everything within easy walking distance. We will be back to CSM! That is, if we can find an open slot in their booking schedule...It's quite a find!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words, Roberta! Your enthusiasm for our special little cottage and "secret beach town" is heartwarming.  Having you and your delightful family as our first 2017 guests started the season off on just the right note.  We're always thrilled when our guests discover our favorite haunts and like them as much as we do (Ocean Grill and Hula Hut!) And, yeah, AB does have the best ice cream on the coast of California. Please come back soon!

Charming beach cottage with amenities galore steps from Avila Beach- Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This is the best VRBO I've ever rented! The beach house is historic, charming, beautifully decorated and appointed with all the amenities you need for the perfect beach get away. The owners welcomed us with wine and dog treats for our fur baby. They have thought of everything: welcome snacks, beach chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, lap blankets, comfy beds, well-stocked kitchen, fresh flowers, coupons for local dining and activities (just to name a few.) The backyard has a breathtaking wall of colorful nasturtiums and has adirondack chairs, a bar-b-que and fire pits for use. The front courtyard is fenced in with table, chairs and umbrella and more adirondacks for relaxing. The owners are unobtrusive (they live high above the cottage) but are available for you if needed. They even sent champagne over to us when they heard our daughter got engaged! A full-service concierge style rental - we will come back again! We love Avila Beach (our favorite things to do are golf, dog beach, bike rentals to ride the Bob Jones trail, Avila Barn for olallieberry pie and cider, fresh fish market on third pier, wine tasting, tri-tip tacos at Avila Market, coffee at Kracken, bocci ball on the beach.) Five star rating for our stay at Casa San Miguelito!

Owner's Response: Thank you Christine!!! We are so thrilled to have been your hosts and to have had the pleasure of meeting you and your wonderful family on this special weekend at Casa San Miguelito. The laughter and love from your family emanated from the house like warm sunshine itself! We have played host to wonderful weddings, honeymoons and Valentine's day getaways -- but this was the first engagement at CSM: We are sooooo honored! Your family is full of love, including your wonderful "fur baby" and it warms our hearts to see guests use the courtyards, walk to the beach and enjoy all Avila Beach and Casa San Miguelito have to offer. We are grateful that you let others know about our special little seaside escape and we look forward to having all of you back!!!

Unique and welcoming place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Such a great find this place. Old original beach cottage wonderfully and carefully renovated by Sara and Ara who as well as being lovely people to deal with obviously take a huge amount of pride in their place. So many little touches really do make a huge difference. It's a 100 metres or so to a superb beach and was great having all the beach equipment and toys to borrow. Be there on a Friday afternoon to catch the farmers market. Will hopefully stay again one day.

Romantic Get-Away Perfection

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are not very outdoorsy people per se.. and to be honest, even tough we live in Los Angeles, we hardly ever visit the beaches. This is mostly in part because beaches in LA tend to be crowded. We were looking to go to a relaxing, quiet and beautiful beach town and Avila Beach was just that. We decided to stay in Casa San Miguelito because of its proximity to the beach. The beach is one block away. The hosts greeted us with an incredible bottle of Rose and shared their love for Avila beach. Everything was crisp, clean and fresh for us. Did I mention the delicious wine? They recommended a wine shop down the block called Alapay. We bought a case of their champagne to bring home. Everything about this place was wonderful. My husband and I had the best of time here. I took a hot bath sipping on my wine, while my husband and sat on the terrace writing taking in the sun. Just writing this review makes me go back. Will recommend Casa Miguelito to anyone and will stay here again. This is the most romantic little beach cottage ever.

Owner's Response: Awwwwwww!!! Thank you Bricia for your beautiful and kind words about our special cottage!!! We are so appreciative that we could make your stay so refreshing and relaxing. We especially loved hearing about how much you enjoyed the original claw foot tub with a glass of wine! Those types of moments are exactly what we want our guests to experience. We also loved knowing that you enjoyed Alapay so much you took some home with you! Please know that Casa San Miguelito is, and will always be, YOUR BEACH HOME in Avila Beach! Come back soon!

Magical

  • 5 of 5

This magical location seemed like a short drive from Los Angeles. The whole Central Coast was lovely and especially verdant after all the rain this year. This was not our first visit to Avila Beach, but it was our first time staying in this community. So much nicer than Pismo or even Morro Bay. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely proprietors, Sara and Ara. They are such genuine and caring people; they did whatever they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Casa San Miguelito is a charming home, and had all the amenities we could ask for. We were encouraged to bring our 2 dogs. Bowls, leashes etc. were provided. The dogs especially enjoyed the sun room and back garden with "Machu Picchu." We were able to easily walk to the beach/bay where there were plenty of choices for dining. We ate a lot of very good fresh fish, and all the restaurants personally knew Sara and Ara, and treated us as special guests. One restaurant on the pier had windows looking into the water from the tables, so that we could see birds and sea lions while eating. We were only able to stay a few days but it felt like a week. We also drove a few miles up to Morro Bay to see otters and various birds. The hiking along the San Luis creek was very nice as well.

Can't wait to go back!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for these kind words about your stay at Casa San Miguelito in our Casa Journal and on this site! It seemed the time just flew -- and are so glad you were able to bring your pampered little ones to enjoy dog-friendly Avila Beach as well! We can't say enough about the yummy pastries you brought us as a host gift! Wow... deeeelish!!! Thank you again for choosing CSM (and, of course, the yummy pastries!). We look forward to your next visit real soon!!!

"Spectacular Beach Retreat"

  • 5 of 5

If there is a place to stay in Avila Beach, this is it. We have had 4 stays at this charming, clean and comfortable 2 bedroom house with all the convenient amenities of a full kitchen, front living space, glass sun room dining area and exquisitely beautiful bathroom with complimentary toiletries. There is also a cozy outside area to lounge and relax. You are within walking distance of the beach and pier which includes shops, restaurants and wineries. Sara and Ara the innkeepers are extraordinarily warm and welcoming. The both of them and what I consider the best beach retreat in Central Coast, is the reason we stay here when we are in town.

Avila Beach is a small beach and historic beach town where nearly everything is just steps away -- great restaurants, great shops, and great activities like water sports, championship golfing, biking and hiking! There are spas and pampering salons, fresh-fish and farmer's markets, summer concerts, places to visit like the lighthouse or aquarium, and the absolute best collection of wine-tasting rooms of any beach town anywhere.
