This split-level jewel in one of the most exclusive areas of San Miguel was completely renovated in 2014. It is located on the border of Guadiana and first street in Ojo de Agua. The garden home's front entrance is through a common, gated, grand stairway shared with three other homes. It also has a private back entrance on a small privada where it is easy to park. One master bedroom opens to the back patio and is on street-level. The other master bedroom is eight steps up from there, while, the open living/dining room, kitchen, outdoor sala, studio/library and front patio is eight steps down from the street-level master. The master suites are furnished - one with a king-size bed and one with a queen-size bed. Both master bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The split-level nature of the house gives privacy and makes it very comfortable for a family or two couples. The studio is furnished with an antique day bed and the living room sofa is a queen size sleeper sofa. Beautiful boveda ceilings can be found in the downstairs master and the kitchen. On the rooftop, views of all the monuments are available as well as of the glorious sunsets and sunrises. The house is unique from most other SMA two bedroom, two bath homes in that it is filled with light; and has two lovely, 'ground-level' outdoor spaces. It is a fifteen to twenty minute walk to the jardin and no taxi is needed for the return trip since it is a relatively flat walk. One can walk down one of the first streets in SMA to get to the Jardin; or, as easily stroll down an exclusive calle with a pastoral setting. The owners continue to decorate it with art and crafts from Mexico, Central and South America.

About Therese Tilley
We are a mother and daughter team, one from Texas and the other from Louisiana, who know what 'la joie de vivre' means. The culture is in our blood.
Therese Tilley purchased this House in 2014
Why Therese Tilley chose Colonia Caracol
Both have traveled extensively. The daughter, Therese, has traveled to San Miguel for summers the last 15 year; and, the mother, Lolita, has come the last several years. Both love San Miguel. Therese lived in many different neighborhoods, usually in a two bedroom/two bath house, unless she rented with friends, then she stayed in the six bedroom colonial in the historic centro. She had almost stopped looking for a house to buy thinking she was too picky and would never find something she could afford. The mother helped make the daughter's dream come true. They needed a house that was close enough in to walk to the jardin, with light, plenty of downstairs outdoor space, easy accessibility, with a garage, and quiet, in an established neighborhood. Therese knew it when she saw it. Lolita had renovations in mind and her vision made it even more spectacular as windows were added and the kitchen expanded and bathrooms redone or updated. The daughter envisioned a fountain and a beautiful roof top terrace with an incredible view in a true neighborhood. Casa PorVenir is truly a house 'For the future' and is named after Lolita's Colombian Grandfather's Finca. The name 'PorVenir' also was used by Therese's brother for a company. We hope the name brings as many blessings to our home and family as it has in the past.

Another fantastic stay in Casa Provenir
We just completed a two month stay in this beautiful casa. We have rented before and plan to return again next year. The casa itself is absolutely beautiful. Great, well equipped kitchen, spacious dining area, lovely living area with comfortable furniture. The beds are heavenly. There are two beautiful courtyards, one with a fountain and a beautiful rooftop terrace. The casa is filled with light and beautiful Mexican art. The walk to the Jardin is about 15 minutes. The walk back to the casa is somewhat uphill so when we did not feel up to the walk a $2.50 taxi fare took us back. The housekeeper, Carolina, and her husband, Efran the gardener, were both wonderful. Carolina is a wonderful cook and she prepared some of our meals as well as desserts. Everything was very delicious. Her flan was the best we have ever tasted. Everything was wonderful.
We are glad you felt this way about your second stay at Casa Porvenir. We aim to make your experience good every time and hope we are up to the task, on your return next year.
Beautifully appointed, comfortable home!
We absolutely loved our stay in this simply marvelous San Miguel home. From the comfortable beds to the thoughtfully stocked kitchen with all the necessary, high end kitchen appliances and cooking items, to the sunny rooms. The house arrangement comes with a housekeeper, who had left amazing agondigas con arroz (meatballs with rice) for us to warm on the stove which we inhaled after arriving late in the evening, famished from our flight. She also cooked for us on other days and is an amazing cook! As we were there in December, the stone-built house is understandably seasonally chilly (none of the homes have central heat) so be sure to bring slippers and a sweater to lounge in.
We are so happy you enjoyed Casa Porvenir and Carolina as much as we do.
A truly lovely home
We spent over two months in lovely Casa Por Venir and it felt so much like home that we were sad to leave. The house is cheerful, colorful and beautifully decorated. All the rooms open onto one of two delightful courtyards filling the house with light and views of the outdoors - and the rooftop patio is spectacular! The kind and thoughtful housekeeper Carolina took good care of the house and cooked special things for us about once a week. Note that renters are responsible for paying her base salary of 650 pesos a week plus extra for any cooking or shopping she does. It is about a 15 minute walk into the center (and uphill on the way home) but we enjoyed being in a residential neighborhood a bit outside the lively bustle of the center of town. We hope to return to return to this very special home.
Stacy, we have many return visitors and are so glad you enjoyed Casa Porvenir for the two months you and your husband were in San Miguel. You are welcome back anytime,
The property is beautiful, in the centro, but in a quiet, exclusive neighborhood with easy parking.
Best housekeeper and chef in San Miguel. You will be spoilt and not want to leave.
Casa Porvenir for the Holidays
My friend and I had a delightful stay at Casa Porvenir during the week between Christmas and New Year's. The property was just as described and pictured on the site. It was very inviting, clean, and comfortable. Carolina took great care of us during our stay, cooking us breakfast every day, cleaning, and doing our laundry. The property was within walking distance (about 15 minutes) of the Jardin. We really enjoyed our stay, and plan on returning!
Lovely review. I hope you think of us again. I enjoyed meeting Sharon, briefly.
We stayed for 9 days in San Miguel and enjoyed every minute of the trip. The villa was very comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. We walked to town each evening for dinner then took a taxi back. It's a bit far and up hill for the return trip on a full stomach. And the taxi ride only cost about $2. The villa had everything one needed to be comfortable. The only suggestion would be to provide an electric space heater that can be moved from room to room. We stayed in November and it was quite cold in the evenings and had to wear a coat around the villa. There is a fireplace but we couldn't figure out how to light it. All in all it was a great trip and we will return.
San Miguel is a World Heritage Site and in 2014 Conde Nast's selection for nicest city in the world. It is paradise with the best of everything and something for everyone - language and art schools; eco-tourism; adventure tours; progressive attitudes and seminars in every subject; shopping, dining, relaxing.
Additional information about rental rates
Renters are responsible for paying the hourly minimum wage for the housekeeper. Her hours are 10:00 to 1:00, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. She is paid every Friday in PESOS. The 2018 minimum wage is 90 pesos an hour. Renters my make arrangements for more hours, but not less than her nine hous per above. The gardener who comes here hours a week is the housekeeper's husband and a waiter at one of the oldest restaurants in town. We pay him. He has served, made Caesar salads at the table, etc. and is a "mesero"too. An appropriate amount of gas is provided at the beginning of any visit; renters are responsible for additional gas and the staff will make arrangements for such, but renters will need to provide them with the pesos.
