About Mark L. Usry
Texan by birth I grew up in Oklahoma and first became part of the Cape Charles community in 1995. I enjoy the opportunities that are part of spending the last 30 years in higher education classrooms at James Madison University in Virginia for 20 years and currently at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Why Mark L. Usry chose Cape Charles
This is my home upon retirement. This community is a combination of those who have been here for years and those that have relocated here more recently. It is a chosen community of many artisans, educators, professionals, workmen and entrepreneurs. This is a community that welcomes diversity - racial, faith traditions, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression - of all kinds, you will love it here if you are accepting of that diversity and ..... love amazing sunsets at the beach.
What makes this Cottage unique
A cozy home with a wide front porch and small back porch with a beautiful garden and amazing neighbors.

We had the BEST time! This home is lovely and the gardens are gorgeous! Close to the beach and shops. Best family vacation ever!!
So glad you all enjoyed your stay! I love CC and am happy when others do as well!
The best place in Cape Charles!
My husband, three kids, and I just came back from a week at Kenmar Cottage and I have to say the pictures do not do the house and location justice. It is amazing. Location is perfect- close to the shops and the bay and perfect for
Walking and biking (my daughter and I biked everywhere!) the house is incredible and perfect for a family. The gardens, the way it is decorated- it’s just perfect. We look forward to returning next year!
Lovely week at Kenmar Cottage by the Bay
We enjoyed staying at Kenmar Cottage and would definitely stay there again. The location was great; it is close to the shops and restaurants on Mason Street and an easy walk to the Bay. The pictures on line do not do the house justice. The gardens in the back yard and the outdoor seating gave us ample opportunity to enjoy quiet visits with family and friends. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need. We appreciated the outdoor gas grill and cooked out several nights (the grill is getting a little tired and may need to b replaced soon). We thank our host for making his lovely home available.
So happy that you enjoyed my home. Hope to host you on a return visit. I will look into replacing that grill.
The home is comfortable, clean and so welcoming. We could’nt have asked for more!
Kenmar Cottage is a quaint and welcoming getaway. The location is perfect for beach, park and Main Street access. The cottage is roomy, pleasantly decorated, well stocked with everything needed for a pleasant stay, And immaculate. The kitchen is well stocked, and towels and linens are plentiful and of very good quality. The front and back porches are comfortable with plenty of comfortable seating, and the backyard offers even more. The landscaping and gardens are so pretty, and were just coming out during our stay in late April. The entire atmosphere was cheerful and relaxing. We didn’t want to leave!!
And the fact that it is ‘pet friendly ‘ was perfect for us! Our pup, who is more like family than a pet, was able to enjoy the getaway with us.
In all, the Cottage has all of the comforts of home, and more.
And Mark, the owner, responds promptly to all inquiries and questions.
We can’t wait to go back! Thank you Mark!
A home away from home by the bay
We had a wonderful week at this great house. It was much larger than it looked in the photos. The kitchen was well stocked with coffee maker, etc. The beds were comfy. We're definitely going back! We sat on the rocking chairs on the front porch, went to the beach, ate lots of good seafood. I can't remember such a relaxing vacation. Thank you, Mark !
I am so happy you had the relaxation that you were looking for - so happy to share my home.
The gardens are beautiful!
We had a wonderful time at Kenmar Cottage! Kenmar is conveniently located near the beach and main street. We enjoyed our walks to the beach every day! After catching crabs and fish all day at the beach our oldest son would catch toads and garden slugs in the back yard gardens. The fig tree was full of unripened figs! I checked them every day in hopes of maybe one ripe fig! The cottage is roomy and we felt comfortable there. We enjoyed the owner's eclectic style and art pieces. Our favorite piece was the Trident Merman church pew bench!
It is a particularly good feeling when those who visit enjoy my home. So glad to hear all the fun, and wish the figs Had cooperated.
