About the property

Stunning adobe on the Rio Grande: Mountain Views, Turquoise Skies, Elegant Decor

This adobe ,with it's award-winning architecture, was designed by an internationally acclaimed architect to blend seamlessly with the landscape of the Land of Enchantment. The foot thick adobe walls embrace a home that is both luxurious and comfortable, featuring brick floors, beautiful oriental carpets, sparkling chandeliers, fine art including paintings, pottery and sculpture, and walls gilded and hand painted in both Tibetan and Moroccan themes. The open floor plan and four courtyards makes entertaining or just relaxing a delight!

The entry pathway winds through beautiful desert landscaping to the main entrance (past a beautiful statue of The Three Graces) or to the private patio and entrance of the Samsara Suite.

The Samsara Suite: (Samsara means 'rebirth' in Sanskrit and you'll surely feel refreshed and renewed from your stay!) Here you'll find soothing sage walls artistically gilded. You'll sleep peacefully in a wonderfully comfortable queen bed. You'll find plenty of storage, cable television, a secretary desk, and a tiny kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and coffee-maker. Two plush velvet armchairs are perfect for catching your favorite show, snacking, reading, or playing games and cards. The walls are hung with fine art from Taos and Santa Fe artists. The sumptuous bathroom features a luxurious shower, tons of storage, plush hotel bath linens, a mirrored wall and granite counter tops.

Down the hall/gallery you'll enter the great room with its ebony grand piano. Ample blue leather chesterfield and armchairs gather round the cozy fireplace. The beauty of the art hung on walls is rivaled only by the incredible views of the Sandia and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The adjoining breakfast courtyard is the perfect place to enjoy your coffee while watching the many balloons that fly each morning along the Rio Grande, often within shouting distance! This courtyard is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while the sunset bathes the Sandia Mountains in the watermelon hue that gives them their name.

The Talavera dining room easily seats eight and opens onto the kitchen. Here you'll find everything you need to whip up a snack or a formal meal: microwave, toaster, citrus and regular juicers, Vita-mix, small blenders, mixer, food processor, steam cooker, Foreman grill, more than we can possibly list. Granite counter tops, double stainless sinks and a huge window with a view of the wisteria and Asian garden make cooking a pleasure!

From the dining room, you'll enter the serenity of the Asian garden. A small pond burbles happily, festooned with water lilies and iris. The tiered brick patio and pathways offer views of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, and of course, more balloons! Solar lighting glows along the path at night. Just outside the kitchen window is a table perfect for al fresco dining. You may choose to prepare your meal on the gas grill. Of course nothing beats a hot tub with its powerful massaging jets after a long day of balloon watching or exploring the Land of Enchantment!

A Chinese-red gallery leads to the Kwan Yin Suite. This suite includes an office, painted in a periwinkle perfect for creativity, a lovely bath with laundry, and an opulent bedroom. From the bed of the Kwan Yin Suite, embellished with peacock blue and Tuscan gold, you can watch the sunrise from your pillow. The Kwan Yin Suite is reached through double doors that, when closed, offer all guests complete privacy.

This southwestern Shangri-La is located on the bosque near the Rio Grande and just 15-20 minutes from Albuquerque International Airport. Miles and miles of hiking and riding trails are easily accessible. A short drive will bring you to the base of the Sandia Mountain Tramway (the longest in the world) with alpine hiking trails, fine dining, and skiing in the winter. Historic Old Town is located about 10 minutes away and was founded in 1706. There you'll enjoy galleries, museums, shopping, and restaurants. Two of New Mexico's finest wineries are within a few miles of this beautiful Albuquerque home.

About Julie Christine

I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and love the high country. In my late teens I visited the Land of Enchantment and fell in love!

I've been a pianist/musician all of my life and currently perform with the Dazzle Dolls.

For the past 45 years I taught piano and early childhood music education, directed musical programs and performed as a pianist and accompanist and am now mostly retired from teaching. However, I am honored to continue to perform with a fabulous female foursome called 'The Dazzle Dolls.' The Dazzle Dolls are the voice of The Harmony Project, a nonprofit I founded in 2000. Our mission is to bring the joy and healing of fabulous music to the elderly and veterans, folks who are unwell, and people in crisis and transition. We also perform for private, corporate and community events. Our Big Band, Broadway & Blues concerts have delighted thousands over the years, and we were so pleased to win the Mayor and First Lady's Charity Gala Award in 2010.

I live in La Vie Magique with my beautiful Great Pyrenees, Holly.

Why Julie Christine chose Albuquerque

When I first saw this property, with its wonderful courtyards and views, gardens and earthy spirit, I knew it offered the perfect harmony of serenity and fun. With a talented crew, I worked for more than half a year turning its plain beige and brown interior into a fantasy-come-true of Moroccan and Tibetan delight.

The wisteria in the Asian Courtyard is unlike any plant I've ever seen. The trunks have been woven into a Tolkien-esque vision, and when in bloom in April, the fragrance and beauty of the blossoms is intoxicating. Year-round its giant canopy creates a shady retreat for meditating, reading, or tapas and cocktails.

What makes this townhome unique

From any of the courtyards, and even from the bed in the Kwan Yin Suite, you'll see balloons nearly every morning!

The hot tub is specially designed with high intensity jets for therapeutic massage, much stronger than any other tub available.

The grape vines produce fruit bursting with sunshine in late June and juicy peaches can be picked in July.

The brick floors of the interior continue throughout the Asian Courtyard providing a generous and beautiful space for entertaining or relaxing.

The gas fireplace will warm your toes in seconds.

This home is a sanctuary for birds (you'll see everything from hawks to hummingbirds) and our roadrunner neighbors come for a snack every morning and evening. Little Rascal, the youngest roadrunner, will walk right through a group of people on the patio to gobble a tender morsel.

Because of the hundreds of hours that went into the painting and decor of La Vie Magique, this is truly a unique home: it's a one-of-a-kind experience in beauty and harmony!

Beautiful place

  • 3 of 5

We lived at Julie's house from 9/28 to 10/8/2017. Julie was kind enough to receive us with some fruits and veggie with even a couple bottle of wines. House appeared to be what it was advertised! However, when asking about using tennis courts, we were told it has to be in her presence since community were very conservative in seeing new faces. She gave the impression that she did not want her neighbors to know she was renting the abode out. We scrapped that idea.

The house was quite hot during our stay ! We had to leave the doors in the living room and kitchen open since the circulation fan did not work. When I informed Julie of the situation, she simply texted back fan does not work and had no remedy for it. This presented a problem for us since living room was quite drafty and dusty with door open. Four of us ( Family of 6 adults) developed allergy with sneezing and coughing! We had to get allergy medicine from nearby pharmacy to get it under control.

I think Julie is a good host but inexperience. When pilot of fireplace was not lit, she got the handy person in the next noon. She responded to my text request soon enough. However, the unusable fan is a bummer since it appeared this is not an issue to her. The reservation was made months ago and I assume she had plenty of time to get it fix before our arrival. But that was not the case. It would not had been an issue if some of our party did not have to sleep on Chester in the living room or if fan was functional and doors did not have to leave open in the night.

Another incident was when we found out the first day some of the fruits she left for us were rotten! Julie is kind to leave us the fruits but not the rotten ones. I am sure she did not mean it and may be just inexperience to pay attention to it.

We had the golden week in attending International Balloon Festival. Juile's place is in right location for it besides there were ample towels and toiletry! Hot tub and fire pit also works well for our stay.

We also enjoyed pianos and guitar as well as having a good time of it. We enjoyed artistic decor of the house much!

I would give it a four star if the fan were fixed and five stars if we could use the other facility as it was advertised.

Owner's Response: ... Emily's guest review is the only one comprised of less than five stars on either of my listings. I can only imagine that it is in response to the fact that I had to withhold some of the deposit to cover damage done by these guests. (The only time I've ever had to do so!) They also left my home very dirty and messy with food crusted on the counters and dining table--something else I've never experienced before. I'm very sorry to learn that they had allergies--I've never had a complaint before to that effect--and especially surprised about the review since, at their request, I moved pianos and provided an additional sleeping area since they wanted to bring more people than I typically welcome.

Probably the best vrbo home we've ever stayed in. Enchanting as New Mexico is. Julie was a very gracious host. Son was hoping to see a road runner. We actually feed them at her house. What a delight to play on a grand piano. Outside patios were a "ten". I would recommend this home to anybody. Thanks for sharing a wonderful experience, Julie.
