This home was built in 1930 and sits back on the property from the street, across from Mingus Park where you can hear the fountains in the lake and the music during events in the park. The fall concerts are on Tuesday nights for a month from August to September. There are restaurants downtown and a Farmers Market every Wednesday, May through October. Shore acres is a favorite place on the coast for its gorgeous botanical garden and pond right on the ocean and during the holidays from the day after Thanksgiving through New Year's Day the lighting display through out is incomparable to most. Beachcombing is a favorite of a lot of visitors and locals, searching for vintage glass floats and shells is relaxing and good exercise while experiencing the beauty of our ocean and its beaches. The dunes recreational area is fun for those wanting to ride the dunes and you can rent horses in Bandon to ride on the beach.
This is a very sweet comfortable cottage in the diserable Mingus Park location.

About Vicki Whelchel
Tom and I with our 5 daughters moved to North Bend in 1991 from Southern California. We recently decided to turn one of our long term rentals into a vacation rental, as the location and the home seemed perfect for that. We hope you love staying at the cottage and exploring the area as much as we do. Welcome!
Vicki Whelchel purchased this House in 2008
Why Vicki Whelchel chose Coos Bay
We had looked for a small home in the Mingus Park area and felt lucky when this one became available to purchase. It is a sweet 1930's place and being by the park makes it even better.
What makes this House unique
Being close to Mingus Park and near the downtown Coos Bay Area, this a quiet yet convenient location. The beaches and Charleston boat harbor is not a far drive, and coming home to a warmer less foggy space is nice to finish off your day at the beach. The covered patio in back and propane grill is nice for outdoor meals.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay
The Mingus Park Cottage was just perfect for us. We came down from Homer, Alaska with our daughter to get her settled at SWOCC. We stayed for 4 nights. The place was so much better than a hotel room. It was very quiet and homey. The place was tastefully decorated just like my wife would have done. The place has a lot of character and was also very functional. It was stocked with everything we needed and then some. The whole place was very clean. We really liked the enclosed front porch where we had our morning coffee and watched the sun come up. We were not familiar with the city and so we were hoping Mingus Park wasn't a sketchy part of town. It wasn't at all, in fact it was much better than the college area. It's very close to downtown which has everything you need. They also have antique shops which my wife loves, and coffee shops which I love. Whenever I leave Alaska I can only stomach it for a couple days before I just want to get back home, away from the busy "lower 48" . This time I actually wanted to stay a little longer, partially because of this cottage. We appreciate the hard work that went into the place and the upkeep as well. We hope to visit again and we highly recommend it. Thanks Vicki
Wow❤️ This review actually brought tears you my eyes! It makes me so very happy when our guests live their stay at the cottage. The whole ready n for making this place a vacation rental was because we felt it was the perfect spot to share with visitors to the area and hope they feel at home in the cottage. We have had many reviews and all have been very positive and very appreciated!! Please come again as our home is your home anytime you’re in Coos Bay 😊
Charming and Comfortable Cottage Near a Lovely Park and Downtown
Our family of three really enjoyed our stay. The home was clean and spacious and well-stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the patio as well (and listening to the sound of the water flowing from the small fountain). We never used the barbecue, but it was nice to know that we could. All the appliances (stove, toaster, washer and dryer) worked very well. The beds were very comfortable. The park, which was a several-minute walk away from the property, offered daily opportunities to stretch our legs before beginning our travels to other areas each day. The drive to the Charleston area beaches was easy and convenient as well-- and we could walk to the downtown area very easily (we heartily recommend you try Restaurant O). All in all a very nice stay.
I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage in the area in general. It makes me happy that we decided a few years back to turn this home into a vacation rental for that very purpose that others could come and relax, feel at home and be able to enjoy everything our area has to offer. You’re welcome back anytime 😊
We enjoyed our stay at Mingus Cottage! It’s an adorable house. Very well kept and clean. Great location! Our kids loved Mingus Park. Hope to come back next summer. It was a great escape from our home town heat.
Thank you Tiffany I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay. You are welcome back anytime you’re in Coos Bay!
Best Time ever
I must say this is one of the best vacations my daughter and I enjoyed. We have been to Oregon 3 or 4 years together. The house was very clean and we enjoyed the privacy,it was like our little home. It was even fun to go to buy food. We hated to leave.
We'll be back.
It was a delight to have you ladies stay at the cottage! You’re always welcome back to your little home here I. The coast. So glad you loved your stay😊
Quaint house. Close to entertainment, food and beach.
House is comfortable. It has everything needed for a warm visit to the Oregon coast.
Marvelous Stay in Coos Bay
From the moment we walked in we were in awe of the charm and attention to detail this cozy cottage had inside and out! It was clean and very comfortable. The cottage had everything we needed to cook and BBQ on the deck. We were across from the beautiful Mingus Park ponds, walking trails, and play structure. We were even able to see the fire works from the front porch. We had a wonderful 4th of July stay in Coos Bay!
It was a privilege to have you and your family stay at the cottage. It's so nice it's a good fit and everyone enjoys themselves. We hope you come back again as you are always welcome. Cheers, Vicki
Just across the street from beautiful Mingus Park, Choshi Japanese gardens and small lake full of geese and ducks, water fountains and lovely walking paths. There is also a public swimming pool and Frisbee golf above the park.
