This home was built in 1930 and sits back on the property from the street, across from Mingus Park where you can hear the fountains in the lake and the music during events in the park. The fall concerts are every Tuesday night in September. There are restaurants downtown and a Farmers Market every Wednesday, May through October. Shore acres is a favorite place on the coast for its gorgeous botanical garden and pond right on the ocean and during the holidays from the day after Thanksgiving through New Year's Day the lighting display through out is incomparable to most. Beachcombing is a favorite of a lot of visitors and locals, searching for vintage glass floats and shells is relaxing and good exercise while experiencing the beauty of our ocean and its beaches. The dunes recreational area is fun for those wanting to ride the dunes and you can rent horses in Bandon to ride on the beach.
Tom and I with our 5 daughters moved to North Bend in 1991 from Southern California. We recently decided to turn one of our long term rentals into a vacation rental, as the location and the home seemed perfect for that. We hope you love staying at the cottage and exploring the area as much as we do. Welcome!
Vicki Whelchel purchased this house in 2008
We had looked for a small home in the Mingus Park area and felt lucky when this one became available to purchase. It is a sweet 1930's place and being by the park makes it even better.
Being close to Mingus Park and near the downtown Coos Bay Area, this a quiet yet convenient location. The beaches and Charleston boat harbor is not a far drive, and coming home to a warmer less foggy space is nice to finish off your day at the beach. The covered patio in back and propane grill is nice for outdoor meals.
As it was our first time ever renting a vacation home, we were a bit skeptical. Our doubts instantly vanished when we walked into the cottage. It is beautifully maintained, clean, and safe. We felt welcome and very much at home away from our home. It was such a treat to have delicious coffee every morning and a full kitchen stocked with the essentials. Even the bathroom was stocked with toiletries. Our young sons had lots of fun at the nearby park and we shopped at a nearby employee owned store stocked with our Pacific NW favorites. Thanks a bunch, Vickie! We will definitely return, hopefully soon!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Mingus Park Cottage. It's a very cute and comfortable location, convenient to downtown Coos Bay (we enjoyed the end-of-summer Festival and Parade), and has all the amenities needed for a traveling family. There was plenty of space for my husband and I, our infant daughter, and my dad. We enjoyed morning breakfasts and appreciated the teakettle as well as hot coffee with the provided Keurig in the kitchen (all needed dishes etc were there!), warm evenings in the cozy living room, and the bedrooms were very comfortable and clean. I was even able to do a load of laundry with the great washer/dryer on site! Easy walk to Mingus Park to enjoy the lake, ducks, and gardens. Thanks Vicki for a great stay.
This was the perfect location for our trip to Coos Bay. As fellow VRBO owners, we were impressed at the cleanliness of this cottage. Every detail was covered. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds super-comfy and the patio a great place for us to catch up with family. Instructions were simple and easy to follow. Thank you for your hospitality!
This is a house we can not recommend highly enough: In a nice part of Coos Bay and ideal for excursions to the incredible dunes of Orgeon, Cape Arago and other spots along the coast. Very cozy, yet spacious - for two and also for four people. Lovely patio and garden for chilling and sunbathing and having meals outside. Inside, you can see that the hosts really thought about everything: The best equipped kitchen I have so far seen in a holiday home, enough towels in the bathroom, even beach towels provided. Everything was very clean, the table was laid for us, lamps were on, "fire" burning welcoming (which was sometimes needed, it can get a bit chilly in the evening due to the damp from the sea). We had a wonderful and relaxing week and only wish to find such a lovely home from home for our next vacation.
Spent most of our time on the patio as it was a very nice weekend. Kitchen had everything we needed plus more. House was very clean and nicely decorated.
I've booked a lot of places over the past few years. For this cottage, nothing has been overlooked. More than just clean and comfortable, the accommodations were perfect. My son recently moved to Coos Bay. I'll be renting this place every time I come to visit him.
Just across the street from beautiful Mingus Park, Choshi Japanese gardens and small lake full of geese and ducks, water fountains and lovely walking paths. There is also a public swimming pool and Frisbee golf above the park.
