About Paul K

Hello,

We are Paul and Sarah K. We are the owners of the vacation rentals you are looking at. We are from Alaska but need to escape the cold once in a while and go to Hawaii a few times a year. We would love to see you here.

Why Paul K chose Kona Coast

We bought this property as a vacant 6 acre lot. Within a few years of hard work, we built up 4 vacation rental units and a beautiful outdoor kitchen.

What makes this studio unique

The unique benefits of our property are that it's on a large piece of land. You wont have noisy neighbors nearby. It's a great place if you want to just get away from everything and relax. there are plenty of beaches and attractions nearby.

not as advertised

  • 1 of 5

first off whenn booking the owner asked me to not pay through vrbo, and to use paypal to save him money, he was friendly, which i obliged..that was a huge mistake. while papa bay is a nice rural private and quiet community of coffee growers and farmers, papas aloha is none of the above. the room we were given was clean but very small the space between the bed and the wall was barely enough to fit our suitcases. there is a huge family living there and you rooms are not private studios they are attached rooms with separate entry doors(you will hear everything going on on the other side of the wall). there was no real privacy. multiple teenage boys hawking lougies(green snot spitting) right outside the balcony door 5ft from where you are sitting. the drapes were translucent so you cant change freely or be naked. people everywhere, no quiet....generator humming away in the garage less than 20ft from your bed to charge the solar batteries, so no naps during the day. drumming and wrestling on the other side of the wall. more spitting and yelling. and the photos of the sunsets are not from the rental balcony. they are from the house balcony.rentals have no view. you will read reviews where they claim to have the real hawaii experience. there is nothing hawaiin about this place except it was built on hawaiin land.the cars for rent are their own, and are more expensive than the airport rentals. you get to share the kitchen , but there is never a time for you to be in it, there is always someone in there. it should be advertised as a homeshare, not a private studio...he called me every other day to check in for a week before we actually checked in. when we tried to call to let him know we would not be staying and to seek a resolution, he never called back. ever. after 3 days of trying to call and text with no return i disputed with visa over the charges.. he is still battling me. ..i was coming there to propose to my fiance, he assured me it was a great place..there is no way this place is private enough to pop the question...they still have never contacted...if booking here book through vrbo. at least then you are protected if its not for you. do not pay through paypal offsite. you will have no recourse. and the owner is very aware of that. there are almost 10 reviews here with 5star ratings, and no negatives..hmmm..just so happens they all sound very similar. you can rent an actual private, rural, quiet, studio for the same price somewhere else....

Loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay! It was our first time to Hawaii and we had such a great experience. We stayed for 4 nights with or 7 year old daughter and it was perfect! The bedroom/bathroom was nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the company was great! Paul and his family went above and beyond to make us feel at home. It was great hanging out and cooking in the shared kitchen. It has everything you might need, and Paul is a great cook! Only wish we could have stayed longer!

When you want to get away

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away from the usual tourist places like Kona, this place is it. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. There is internet access but I had problems with getting cell service in the area. It's about an hour drive from Kona and 2 hours from Hilo so you would need to rent a car from Paul or an agency. Along both ways are many stores, restaurants, and sights to explore and see. Paul wasn't there but his property manager Stephan was available to pick us up at the airport and answer any questions we might have. We chose to cook most of our meals in the outdoor kitchen because you would have to drive at least 30 minutes to get to the closest restaurant. The kitchen was stocked with every gadget and basic ingredient we needed to use for cooking so it was fine. Paul even provided some smoked salmon from Alaska! We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this area of Hawai'i and would love to stay here again.

Love Papas Aloha!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot thank Papas Aloha enough! This was my first trip to Hawaii and it was amazing. The accommodations were excellent and I feel that I have made life-long friends with Paul and his entire family. They were all so giving and helpful. I will definitely be booking with him again. For the price, location, and friendliness it can't be beat!

Feel at home

  • 5 of 5

Extremely clean, affordable, incredibly comfortable. The hosts are friendly, kind, generous and accommodating. A great holiday for their guests is their priority. They take an interest in their guests and will share their knowledge of the island and history for the asking. This is a place to experience and enjoy the Hawaiian way of life, with vegetation including papaya trees and nature sounds all around. Enjoy magnificient sunsets from the kitchen or your own private linai. Hear the surf crashing below as it lulls you to sleep in the exceptionally comfortable beds and abundance of pillows. Hosts are so welcoming and go out of their way to provide the best possible holiday. They will pick you up at the airport and drop you off. They provide a huge fruit bowl of tropical fruit to welcome guests.

Enjoy seeing macadamian orchards, coffee plantations and fruit trees on drive to the rental. There are fruit stands and grocery stores short drives away. There are great beaches in either direction. If a more rural experience is what you are looking forward to than this is it. There is no light pollution so it is possible to experience star-filled skies and magnificient moonlight.

It was a very relaxing holiday thanks to our hosts.
