About James Strauss

We are a lucky Family of 8 with 3 boys and 3 girls. We found this rare and special place over 10 years ago and have watched are babies/children grow and flourish here. We have so many truly wonderful and magical memories here! A piece of heaven.

James Strauss purchased this cabin in 2003

Why James Strauss chose Northwest

For us it is a cozy, charming special happy place to relax and unwind. A quiet place to bond with our family away from our regular busy lives.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked for a cabin for a couple summers before we finally found what we were looking for. It is a wonderful combination of being set in the woods on a quiet, clean just the right size Lake with a real cabin look and feel along with a bunkhouse. We love it and always look forward to returning and never want to leave.

Great stay on a beautiful Wisconsin Lake in a quiet cabin.

  • 4 of 5

Great for me, 3 kids and a dog. We had success fishing off of the shore. The place was rustic (as advertised), quiet, quaint and exactly what we wanted.

It would have been a solid 5-start but the water was too high for the dock to be in the water and we didn't know about this until the day prior. Jim was trying to get it in for us but the water depth simply wouldn't allow as was evident by the submerged docks we saw.

Great place which I highly recommend!

Rustic Cabin On Lake Gillmore

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for one full week and there is absolutely nothing that we did not like about our stay. The cabin is set up with everything that you need and it is very clean and full of all kinds of really nice furnishings. We loved the lay out of the property with the bunk house for the kids and the porch for another great sleeping area. The upstairs main bedroom was really awesome too with the 10 windows wide open the whole time the breeze and sounds of the lake were awesome. The area around the property and the lake are beautiful and very quiet. We felt like we had the lake to ourselves the whole week and James could not have been more accommodating. We are hoping to make this annual vacation spot.

Fun an Relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

Jim and family, thank you so much for letting us stay at your cabin. We enjoyed your unique and rustic cabin and the kids loved playing all day in the lake and on the sandy beach. They also enjoyed catching Blue Gills off the dock. We'd definitely recommend other families to stay here! Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your summer.

cozy, primative

  • 3 of 5

We sought a place to hang out during a winter XC ski trip. Main cabin is log construction with an addition for the kitchen, upstairs bedroom accessed by steep stairway, and bathroom. All rooms are well served by wood stove and electric heat. Upper bedroom has fabulous sunrise views. Bathroom smelled funny during our winter getaway. Coziness is due to considerable amount of owners' personal belongings. Once we restored the hot water -- Jim responded to our phone calls -- and figured out how to operate the oven, the house was a good fit for our group of two wilderness-tolerant couples plus dogs.

Great cabin, awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at Jim's cabin, despite the record breaking flooding in the area. We took out the paddle boat instead of the pontoon, and had tons of fun. Also checked out Spooner and Minong... Checked out the beef jerky outlet, which was awesome! I didn't want to leave. 2 nights weren't enough!

Jim was super helpful and was easy to communicate with.
