About the Property
3-Bedroom, 2-bath cabin in a wooded setting, close to winter and summer fun.
The abundant snow makes the area a skiers' paradise. From the cabin, it is just minutes to Soda Springs, Boreal Ridge, Donner Ski Ranch, and Sugar Bowl for downhill skiing. The trail head for Royal Gorge, home to some of the best cross country skiing, is a short distance from our cabin. The cabin also is less than an hour drive to Northstar, Alpine Meadows, and Squaw Valley. Soda Springs Ski area offers tubing hills, and an unplowed road one block from the cabin makes a great sledding hill.
Serene Lakes also is an ideal family vacation destination for summer. Picnicking, playing at the beach, and swimming in the lakes, as well as bike riding and walking, are the main family activities. Unlimited hiking trails criss-cross the nearby peaks and the Pacific Crest Trail is close. Mountain biking trails and rock climbing challenges lurk near the summit, five miles away. Although not allowed at Serene Lakes, power boats are allowed at nearby Donner Lake.
In the summer, enjoy the lakes and beach – great for children. Swimming is allowed in the larger of the two connected lakes. Catch and release fishing is allowed in the lake (stocked). Our canoe, with lifejackets, is available for your use. Our cabin is a couple of blocks from the lakes and a pleasant walk to the beach. This is a kid-friendly area with no through traffic and is good for bike riding and walking.
The cabin is within easy driving distance of Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe for other summer activities such as water sports, whitewater rafting, and golf. We are 15 miles from the historic town of Truckee, where you will find great dining and shopping.
We take pride in furnishing and maintaining this cabin and we only rent it on a limited basis, for the ski season and for a minimum of 31 days at a time for the rest of the year.
Our cabin is very family oriented and kid friendly. We are looking for responsible families with whom to share it.

Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: We live near San Francisco, but love the mountains. We sold our old cabin on the lake to buy this new cabin, better suited for Serene Lakes' deep winter snows. Our travel plans this year limit our use, so we want to share this ski cabin with winter loving families.
Why the Owner Chose Serene Lakes, Soda Springs, CA, USA:
We owned a lakefront cabin and enjoyed summer and fall family activities on the lakes and around the Donner pass and Truckee areas. Kids and grandkids enjoyed winter skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. However, too much snow can be 'a problem', so we bought this brand-new cabin that has easy winter access, even when the snowpack reaches the second floor windows.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin's compact design makes a cozy living space. In winter, the wood stove is the center of family activities – playing games, popping corn, drinking hot chocolate – as the snow falls. The beautiful trees surrounding the cabin offer a magical view as the snow falls. In summer, open the door and move out on the deck for wine and cheese, after a hike on the mountain or a day at the lake with the kids.
