About Rob Wennekendonk

We are a Dutch family with 2 boys(age 11 & 8) living in The Netherlands and spend our holidays in Bonaire for 8 years now.

Rob Wennekendonk purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Rob Wennekendonk chose Bonaire

We have always liked the Dutch Antilles since my wife is born on Curacao and some family is living there. Although we like Curacao, we prefer Bonaire because of the ease-of-going, it's less crowded and the people of Bonaire are really kind.

What makes this apartment unique

Snorkeling, diving & swimming can be done within a few steps away from the apartment. Port Bonaire is a small and quiet resort.

Dive shop "Dive Friends Bonaire" is onsite where you can get all you need to enjoy diving. At the dive shop you can also rinse your dive gear and store/dry it.

Benefits for guests from the US: local currency is US Dollar, 110 volt(no adapters needed) and English is second language on the island

A perfect week in Bonaire

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a great week at one of our favorite places in the world: Bonaire! And we now have a new favorite place to stay! Port Bonaire #201 is well-situated on the island and is well-maintained and supplied with all you need for a perfect vacation. The first-floor location was a plus when it came to our dive gear. Dive Friends Bonaire is onsite, and is one of the departure points for boat dives. I concur with previous comments about the airport across the street being a plus, rather than a minus. It was nice to be able to walk across the street with our luggage, check into the condo, and pick up our rental truck later. Noise from the airport was a non-issue. The kitchen is better stocked than mine at home, making cooking a pleasure. The combination oven / microwave was a first for us, but the instruction book (in English!) is located in a drawer of the living room desk, and we figured it out, and used both features with no problem. We also made good use of the washing machine and appreciated the drying rack . The beds are very comfortable, and we slept great! In addition, owner Rob communicated with me promptly and was a pleasure to work with. Thanks so much, Rob, for a trouble-free, enjoyable week, and I hope this unit is available the next time we go to Bonaire! There is no place I would rather stay!

Very convenient location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed working with the property owner via email before and during our stay. He quickly resolved our questions/ issues. We loved the fact that Port Bonaire is so close to the dive operation we use and the unit we stayed in was quite comfortable. We were not made to feel very welcome, however, by the in- residence owners. We felt like we were under their scrutiny the entire stay. On our first day we were reprimanded for not showering before entering the pool, and scolded for not reading the "house rules." We witnessed many others (guests/residents?) doing the same thing throughout our stay with no scoldings! It was puzzling that would even be an issue since the pool is a favorite watering hole for swarms of sea gulls all day long! To say this is not a family friendly place is an understatement. Kids who ventured into the pool had to be vigilant not to splash water outside of the pool- a resident couple sitting close by was accidentally splashed by a wayward ball and subsequently reprimanded for the infraction!

Simply the best

  • 5 of 5

As we are finishing our 2 week stay in the condo I have to say it was wonderful! Again, as everyone has said, Rob the owner was always responsive to email and questions, he was fantastic. The local rep for the unit was also responsive to our questions. For myself, having the A/C in the whole condo was fantastic as I suffer with asthma and allergies. I was perfectly comfortable and could escape the heat as needed. It was the small details that made this condo special, they have a clothesline and hooks outdoor, a hung 1/2 coconut to feed the birds jelly :), lots of hooks to hang things up in the condo, and fans in the bathrooms. This was our 4th trip to Bonaire and I loved the location...airport was NO problem at all, and being so close it was convenient to check in here. The reef right in front of the condo was fantastic! LOVE all the fish, and my husband and sister (divers) really enjoyed diving in this area. I want to come back.

My only (very tiny) complaints would be to have an instructions when checking in on the microwave/oven. Glad we asked about it because then we were shown how to use it. Also the washer was interesting to figure out. Maybe a measuring cup/spoons would be helpful, but all other amenities were awesome and plentiful!

Beautiful condo in a wonderful location.

  • 4 of 5

Although my wife and I had vacationed on Bonaire five times in the past, this was the first time we had used VRBO, and the first time to stay at Port Bonaire condominiums. The location is convenient, right across the road from the airport. However, we arrived after dark and expected someone to meet us at the airport. That didn't happen, but after a few tense moments, we found where we were to go and got checked into our unit. The kitchen was just remodeled within the past month, and met our needs, though the directions for the dishwasher, oven and clothes washer were in Dutch or "international symbols", and confusing for this North American. I was disappointed that there was no microwave, though at checkout, the agent said she thought the oven actually doubled as a microwave. If so, I couldn't figure it out, and can't imagine how a microwave could have metal grates.

At any rate, I don't want to sound negative, because Rob, the owner, was very responsive to any concerns and was pleasant to work with, assuring me that it was OK to text him with any problems (such as not finding a clothes line to dry our clothes). As the picture shows, this ground floor unit is merely 40 feet from a beautiful pool, with plenty of comfortable reclining deck chairs to sit in the sun or shade, and about 80 feet from a stairway going down into the sea; an easy way to go snorkeling right in front of your unit. We are not "night life" people, and spent our evenings in the unit reading or playing cards, and would have appreciated better lighting for that. Although there are comfortable chairs and a couch in the living room, the only place where the light was really adequate for reading a book or magazine was at the kitchen/dining table, so would suggest that Rob get some more powerful reading lights in the northeast corner of the room.

We have never felt unsafe on Bonaire, but this is especially true at Port Bonaire, which is a fully enclosed, gated community.

My wife and I slept in the bedroom with twin beds the first week, and left the king size bed to our daughter and son-in-law. When they left the second week, we moved into that bedroom, but after 2 nights, went back to the twin beds, which to my taste, are much more comfortable. The king size bed is too firm to my liking, but granted, everyone is different.

You know they are doing something right when you have to book months in advance! Enjoy your stay!

Beautiful condo, great stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (parents, 2 young adults and grandparent) had a wonderful stay. Communication with the owner was easy and very responsive. The on island agent was the same. The condo was wonderful. It was immaculate. The new kitchen was beautiful, very well equipped with full size appliances. We cooked most of our dinners at the condo and ate outside on the patio enjoying the view. The bathrooms were nice, with great showers and water pressure. The beds were very comfortable. While at the condo, most of our time was spent on the patio or lower water deck enjoying the beautiful view and ocean breezes. We never used the air conditioning with nice breezes across the condo. The lower deck entrance to the water with stairs was easy. We snorkeled and dove starting from here, and also just enjoying swimming from here. We had an amazing view of the New Year’s fireworks happening all over the island, an unexpected extra! The condo complex layout is well planned, such that the patios and balconies are more private. There are not people from other condos walking near the patios to get to the pool. The complex is beautiful with plantings and very well maintained. There is convenient access to the nearby sandy public beach, with great snorkeling. Grocery stores are nearby with easy shopping and plentiful selection.

It was the first time that our family, with a 4- year old and a 6- year old, visited Bonaire. We had been to Aruba before but we didn't really know what to expect from Bonaire. We fell in love with Bonaire. It was love at first sight. It is a very small island where you really feel very safe at all time. The airport is just in front of the condo, which is very easy to access by walking if you want. Despite our initial concerns, all reviews proved to be right and there was hardly any noise from the airport which could be heard in the condo. The views from the terrace of the condo are breathtaking. You can see the pool, the sea, and also enjoy the cruise ships that are arriving and leaving. You really enjoy every minute there. Rob is very helpful himself as well, answers your emails very fast, and gives you a lot of information on the island as . The property manager on site could not have been more helpful. The condo is equipped with everything you can think of. We have never been in a condo like this one. Most of the time there are just enough plates or pans for a family of 4 but this one has really everything and more than you really need.

I personally have a back problem and was already thinking about the back pain I would suffer from not sleeping in my own bed. The beds are so comfortable that I didn't have any back pain either. When you wake up and open the curtains of the master, the views are as breathtaking as the ones on the terrace. Unbelievable experience. The condo is well maintained and very clean. As the condo is on a ground floor, it is very easy for the kids to play in the pool while watching them from the terrace.

If I could rate the condo with more stars, I would surely do it because it is a once in a lifetime place and condo. We will surely go back there.

There are good restaurants on the island as well. We also started snorkeling as everybody said it was so beautiful there.

Bonaire and this condo is just the perfect match ! You will love it from the first day on .
