Situated 400 feet above sea level this home greets you from the moment you enter with stunning panoramic ocean and mountain views of the Kohala Coast. All three master bedrooms have sliding glass doors that open onto the poolside lanai with equally spectacular views. The floor-plan provides excellent separation of the bedrooms for maximum privacy.

Constructed in 2010 with 6000 square feet under roof, this very spacious, private home was single owner occupied until now. Be among the first to experience this exceptional home as it is only just now becoming available for vacation rental mid-September of 2014. It is fully air conditioned and is well appointed with Peruvian travertine on all floors and showers. The fully stocked gourmet kitchen has Brazilian granite counter tops with solid cherry cabinets and european gourmet appliances. The guest suite has its own kitchen as well and is climate controlled.

The lanai is tropically furnished for outdoor living and entertaining where you will enjoy relaxing in the pool and viewing the whales when they return from December through March. Rest assured that you will have complete privacy as the home is located on a three acre lot on a quiet cul-de-sac within the gated community of Kohala Ranch with 24 hour security.

Should you wish to explore the ocean just below the ranch, there are many options to choose from. The house is only 1/2 mile from the ocean as the crow flies and there are many quiet coves, beach parks and inlets within a few minutes drive. The Kohala Coast that you are viewing from the lanai is home to many world class resorts, fine dining and some of Hawaii's best golf courses. The white sandy beaches of Hapuna Beach Park and Mauna Kea approximately 10 minutes away, have been consistently rated in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and are excellent for snorkeling and swimming. Scuba diving and deep sea fishing trips can be scheduled with Kohala Divers in Kawaihae, just 5 minutes away. Stand up paddle and surfing lessons can be arranged at HulaKai in the Mauna Lani Shops. Excellent snorkeling and scuba as well as kayaking is also available at the Mauna Lani Hotel and Resort as well as at the Fairmont Orchid. Temporary day memberships at a reasonable rate are available at the Mauna Lani Health Club for training at the gym or playing tennis 20 minutes away. Horse back riding can be arranged through Kohala Na'alapa Stables at Kahua Ranch just up Kohala Ranch Road to the summit. The Puukohala Heiau National Historic Site, located in Kawaihae is home to to one of the largest restored heiaus (temples) in Hawaii and is part of the National Park System. Or if you would like to just visit with us and play with our 2 Huskies, Zeke and Zofie, that can be arranged also. The home is rented to only one guest party at a time but the guest suite with pool may be available for 3 guest maximum on short notice.

About Michael Rago

That's one of our Volcano Huskies Zeke. Zeke was born in Volcano Village here on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2010 and raised in Kohala Ranch with his sister Zofie. They can be seen frequently roaming the ranch. If you run into them it's likely they will want to introduce themselves. They love to entertain the guests here.

So my name is Michael and my girlfriend Dinah and I also live here on the ranch with Zeke and Zofie. I'm born and raised in San Francisco and Marin, and have been coming here since 2000. Dinah is born and raised in Houston worked in Austin and has lived and worked here since 2002.

She says it reminds her of West Texas with no Ocean of course.

If you choose to visit we hope you will find it as exciting and diverse as we have. So many things to see and do, or if you just want to do nothing, this is also a great place for that.

Whether or not you book with us, we would love you to come and see Zeke and Zofie. They can show you all the less visited sights. Or if you just want to come and say hello, please feel free to call and come by and see us.

Wonderful Vacation!

Our family totaled 6 - 3 generations ranging from 85 to 14 years old - and all had a fabulous vacation. Michael (owner) was excellent to work with both before and during our stay. He provided wonderful tips on dining and sightseeing, and was both professional and friendly. The house was absolutely stunning and well laid out. The lanai was gorgeous. The pool/hot tub were fantastic. The view (from all areas) was spectacular. The ambiance was so quiet that the only sound you'd hear were birds singing and soft wind blowing through the palm trees. I highly recommend Michael and his home to truly experience Hawaii.

Alaska Couple's Romatic Retreat

This is our first experience with this property. It's well maintained . The kitchen is very well applianced and beautifully done . If you enjoy cooking, this is a property you will enjoy. The pools/spa+ dipping are excellent following our daily bike ride or hike.

The residence location provided us quick access to the best Big Island beaches at Mauna Kea and Hapuna beach.

Views are sweeping of ocean and make for romatic cocktail hour.

Views from the master suite and living areas are all ocean facing.

We have very much enjoyed the "privacy" and seclusion and total sense of security while on property.

Mike's been a great owner to work with.... and we look forward to our next visit.

Wonderful view... As usual

What can I say ? Another year at the ranch another fantastic vacation. This is the second year my wife and I stayed at Mike's house and couldn't be happier. The view is beautiful and the pool was warm. Mike and Dinah have become friends of ours and their dogs Zeke and Zo Zo are our island pups. Since we have to leave our dog behind Mike is kind enough to bring his over so that we can get our dog fix. The house is clean, well built, has a great kitchen so it's very easy to be comfortable . In fact we feel like we're at home at this house. The main reason is because Mike is very kind, accommodating, and easy to deal with. We are already planning our next stay with him.

So Nice!!!!!!

My husband and I spent an incredibly relaxing and restorative 12 nights at this beautiful home. Situated in Kohala Ranch, a private development, this home boasts magnificent ocean and mountain views. Should you visit during whale season, you're in luck. At night, we literally heard the whales breaching, and exhaling. And during the day we watched them breach and splash. Binoculars are provided! Very cool!

In the mornings, awaken, grab your beverage, and watch the sunrise while listening to the beautiful birdsong. Truly a lovely start to the day.

The home is well appointed and very well thought-out. From toiletries, to a Keurig for coffee and tea, to a super comfy living room couch (not that you'll spend much time on it), to original art, a super comfy outdoor sofa, a fully equipped kitchen, loungers, towels and beach chairs, all you need to do it provide your food and libations!

The pool and spa offer a variety of enjoyment. Take an early morning walk up Kohala Ranch Road, see the cows (!), as well as the magnificent views of the sea, mountains and Maui, then return with a refreshing dip in the pool. Alternatively, go early morning fishing with Greg and Bob at Siren Sports Fishing (Kawaihae), catch an array of fish, and spend your evening cooking fresh fish on the grill with a dip in the heated spa watching sunset.

Michael, the owner, is lovely and thoughtful and will help you in a pinch. (Brought his own Bose sound system when ours didn't work!) We're so happy to have met Michael and found this beautiful home to enjoy. And hope you are able to enjoy it too!

THe property shows beautifully, it is private, clean and GORGEOUS VIEWS!!

The property shows beautifully, it is private has ample space with few exceptions, it's open floor plan is a benefit for small and large groups. The house is outfitted with everything you need & listing is accurate; asked if there was a crockpot before arriving, the owner was very responsive to our needs, he bought a crockpot for us prior to arriving! We loved the house, it was clean, is in a quiet area, & views are just beautiful!!! One note, the master is on the end of large patio, privacy an issue if anyone on the patio after you retire or in the am. The hot tub is very large, and it must be on a timer set by the owner prior to arrival. My husband uses the hot tub for therapy (doctor's orders for an old skydiving accident); it is so quiet and relaxing in the house, we slept later than normal, went to bed earlier than normal, so the times set, were a little off for our new relaxed schedule; setting it a little later in the morning I would suggest 730a-10am, and the evening earlier 730-1030p would be perfect.The large open outdoor living space is WONDERFUL & is where we spent most of our time while visiting, the location is out of the way but we found it to be perfect for us. One thing you & the owner need to know, we did notice a healthy mice family but only outside common to Hawaii. They were tiny cute ones like you see in the movies; at least one brown & several white ones; they were harmless, and didn't bother us, since they were only outside; but they would visit daily and will eat anything you leave outside. Under the post supports on the patio, the outdoor sofa under and between, and in the outside corner where the dining meets the rest of the house, is their favorite places to lurk. Next visit I would ask for a treatment day before arrival to deter them for a week or so; & don't leave cans of food outside, they even tried to open a can of nuts by chewing on the plastic snap top, but didn't get into them! If they would have been inside (we never saw one) this section would be much different!! One last thing, the owner is very protective of the property, maybe somewhat new to the rental market; during the initial walk thru towards the end, he stated "You better take care of my house." I found the delivery to be an offensively delivered statement & not necessary; I responded, "This isn't our first rental with VRBO, and not our first rodeo don't worry". After the rental, he thanked us for taking good care, &, he was very kind.

Great House, Pool, Views. Highly recommended!

My family--including 6 adults and 3 kids--can expect a lot, and Michael and his beautiful home delivered. Michael is great to work with pre-trip, and is available as-needed during. The house is well designed, furnished and appointed, including: a high quality kitchen and appliances, great balance between open-floorplan and private spaces, excellent lanai and pool area and "can't beat 'em" views from indoors or out.

We look forward to returning, and highly recommend this rental.
