Welcome to Santuario #2, my charming condo in 'The Sanctuary”, a private, secure garden complex, green and leafy, accessed by electronic gated pedestrian entry. Located at the end of a private cul-de-sac, in a safe family neighborhood in the historic “el centro” district of San Miguel, it is a block away from the Farmer’s and Artisan’s Market, and a flat and pleasant 10 minute stroll to the main square, “el jardin”, the main cathedral, “la parroquia”, excellent restaurants, art galleries, cultural activities and classes, and the visual charms of one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the world.

You enter your sanctuary from a private plant-filled terrace. Tranquility awaits you in an elegant and airy environment. Sunlight from floor-to-ceiling glassed-in arches bathes the living room and dining areas. There is a sideboard/table suitable for a desk. Traditional dining room furniture to seat 4-6 and charming whitewashed kitchen cabinets adds to the country charm. The living room is elegant with tall Paris-style balcony windows and locally crafted furniture, a lovely spot for watching tv or reading. A gas heater keeps you cozy and the living room area also includes an extra sofa bed for visitors.

While restaurants abound in this area, your kitchen is fully equipped with everything to make your culinary adventures rewarding. The famous local market will inspire you! Avocados and mangos are the best you have ever eaten! The flower stall will tempt you to keep fresh blooms - a dozen roses are 80 pesos! The dining room table seats six and there is a round table which is handy as a serving table. There are plenty of wine glasses and enough dishes and flatware for a group of 6 people. In warm weather, the terrace is pleasant for breakfast and lunch and for evening drinks. It is very private- a perfect place to watch the hummingbirds and other lovely bird creatures who like to perch.

There is a powder room with a walk-in shower, light décor, and charming country tiles. This room is useful for a second bathroom, and as a powder room away from the main bathroom which is ensuite to the master bedroom.

Exquisitely carved and arched wooden doors are your portals to the gracious master bedroom, generous enough to be a second sitting room. It is spacious with twin beds (or these beds made up into a very comfortable king,) carved dresser and telephone/writing table. The views to gardens outside add to the ambiance. There is a large armoire for your use. It is keyed to lock up valuables and offers lots of storage space. A walk-in closet with 2 hanging rods and lots of hangers are as nice as any hotel room. An iron, ironing board, and an electric broom are housed in this closet. The ensuite 4-piece bathroom has a deep bath tub and the same country tiles as in the kitchen and powder room. It all goes to give a self-contained feeling to this large room.

But perhaps the best feature of the master bedroom is the Paris window feature! They are true French windows, with double doors opening to a view of the lush and charming gardens of Quinta Loreto Hotel. All of these windows have been screened, so that the doors can be pushed open for a cross breeze. The base of the window ledge is large enough to put a chair on! Attractive ironwork ensures your security and Hunter-Douglas blinds guarantee a good night's sleep as do the mattresses, which are very good quality.

As one of our renters put it: 'The photos of this lovely sanctuary do not do it justice. It is tucked away in the most perfect spot for anyone who wants to be near the center of town, but in a quiet neighborhood. The privacy coupled with the centrality is just perfect. The apartment is architecturally stunning and decorated so tastefully. We were looked after and felt like we had truly hit the jackpot. I still can not believe how inexpensive this little bit of paradise was. This sanctuary of an apartment made our first trip to San Miguel truly perfect!'

You will enjoy easy access to both the bustle and ambiance of the historic center of town, and the exciting newer attraction, la Fabrica de la Aurora, a charming complex of artist's galleries and studios, antique shops, the very best interior design, jewelry and one- of-a kind clothing shops. Art, sculpture, and print-making classes will interest even the novice, and there are several excellent restaurants in the complex. La Fabrica is well known for it's Friday evening Art Walk, a chance to attend gallery openings, mingle with the artists and even arrange to purchase a treasure!

About The Owner

I am a graphic designer who was been coming to San Miguel since 1996. I enjoy participating in painting workshops. I also enjoy the charm of the town, the sunny weather and the fact that you get fit by walking everywhere!

The Owner purchased this condo in 2005

Why The Owner chose San Miguel de Allende

I had 3 main considerations for a property here. It had to be centrally located, I had to feel safe, and it had to be quiet for sleeping. This condo is one of 6 in a gated complex at the end of a family oriented small street where everyone knows each other. The complex is very private and secure, and yet each individual unit is visually private from the others.

Everything is within easy access of the apartment via walking. Taxis are inexpensive, 30 - 35 pesos will get you virtually anywhere in San Miguel and are handy for food shopping or to getting round at night. They are plentiful- just look for the green and white cars! (I have put a phone number of a radio taxi in the welcome book. If you call one to pick you up, it will be 50 pesos, but will arrive in 10 minutes.

The other "must have" for me was a central location. I wanted to be close to the library, art galleries, good restaurants, and the vitality of San Miguel. The suburban parts of San Miguel are lovely, but are somewhat cut off from things.

But the main attraction of this property for me was its security. It is located at the end of a private street, no through traffic, and is quite family oriented. This condo is tucked away, and is beautifully quiet and safe at night.

What makes this condo unique

You will enjoy the tranquil, light, and airy ambiance and tasteful decor. After coffee on the terrace, practice your Spanish with the charming white haired grandfather on the street, have breakfast at an organic market restaurant nearby and head out for language, art, or tennis classes. After lunch, return to the apartment for a siesta,

and your choice of doing absolutely nothing, or taking advantage of the vast array of activities that the centro area of San Miguel has to offer. There is an English (Gringo) newspaper which comes out on Thursdays and this will orient you very quickly to the activities and events you will enjoy. If your Spanish needs help, just show the address to the taxi driver, and he will get you there! This newspaper (Atencion) will be on the coffee table when you arrive!

A Perfect Gem!

I have stayed in a lot of VRBO vacation rentals as well as others and I have never experienced such professional care as I did at Casa Tranquila. Someone was there to greet me when I arrived and showed me how to operate the heater and stove as well as where to find everything. I received a welcome email as well as a weekly email to check in and make sure everything was satisfactory. Maria, the housekeeper, was a delight and helpful in every way. There is a very thorough binder with useful information about the condo and the area as well as other guides with good tourist information. The condo is decorated so beautifully it is a pleasure to be there. It is quiet and secure. The internet is better than mine at home. And the location is excellent with a 10 minute walk to the Biblioteca and El Jardin. This was my first trip to San Miguel de Allende and I found it to be a delightful spot. The weather is near perfect, the restaurants are superb (all 350 of them) and there is so much to do. Pick up a copy of Atencion newspaper at the Biblioteca for a weekly schedule of activities.

Lovely, well maintained apartment

My husband and I stayed in this lovely apartment for almost a week. Check in was smooth, and the apartment was a joy. It is well maintained, very clean and very quiet. It was lovely to have a well stocked starter kit of coffee, sugar, tea, oil. Lots of purified water was available and the welcome book was full of excellent information. The wifi worked like a charm.The apt is close to the market for fresh fruit and vegetables and taxis are easy to get on the main road.

Perfect place to perch in San Miguel

We are delighted to have used Casa Tranquila for the month that we enjoyed in San Miguel. The condo was bright and tastefully decorated. The second bathroom, the roomy closet with ample hangers, and the start-up supplies were a plus. Owner and staff were exceptionally responsive. The outdoor terrace with greenery was charming. LOCATION--the best. We feel fortunate that we discovered this wonderful spot!

Very enjoyable!

We stayed at Casa Tranquila for almost 2 weeks in January 2016. Overall it was a great location, quiet, residential, close to the market and a 10 minute walk to the centre of SMA. It was even closer to my art classes. The condo was very well equipped, spacious, bright and filled with local art. The property managers were helpful and approachable. Even though our plane was 2 hours late, we were met at the door in person at midnight and shown around. The fresh flowers and coffee were also much appreciated! Maria the cleaner did an excellent job!

Loved this place

We were here for 6 days. It was a delightful place to stay, flowers to greet us and many other things. The essentials for the kitchen,including a full bag of coffee were there for our use. They had the very important antibacterial drops for washing produce. Even US cable to catch up on news from home!! It was clean, sunny,quiet,great location. Lovely patio in the courtyard. No complaints from us. We felt lucky to find Casa Tranquila.

I spent the month of August in SMA and stayed at Casa Tranquila. What a wonderful experience and a perfect home away from home. As a single woman over 55, I felt very safe and had everything I needed within a few blocks.

The condo was very large for a one bedroom, even lovelier than the pictures portray. It sleeps 3 comfortably. There is a futon in the large living/dining area with a second bath off the kitchen. Maria who cleans once a week is a gem. She cleans for other condos in the complex and can be reached if there are questions or an emergency. Also, the management company with Andrea, Erika, Rosana are only a phone call away if needed. Don't hesitate to book Casa Tranquila if you are staying in SMA. You won't be disappointed.

Art galleries and classes (drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, photography, sculpture, dance, etc.), Spanish classes, cooking classes, concerts and lectures in English, live music and dancing in restaurants and nightclubs, yoga, tai-chi, temazcales (sweatlodges) at nearby botanical garden, thermal hot springs, many volunteer opportunities, the largest English-language library in Mexico outside of Mexico City. This condo is in a prime location of San Miguel de Allende.

It is situated between the bustle and excitement of the Jardin and Centro on one side, and the tranquility and refinement of

the galleries, art classes, shops, and restaurants of la Fabrica de la Aurora on the other. It is a flat walk to both locations, and

taxis, which are extremely reasonable in San Miguel are easy to hail at any time of the day or night.
