About Sue & Jim Cropper

Having traveled extensively ourselves, we've enjoyed (and in some cases not enjoyed!) a wide variety of accommodations. Quality construction and amenities, cleanliness, peace and quiet, the great outdoors and a comfortable feeling of home are what we look for in our travels and we really enjoy offering just that to our guests. Having stayed at some of the finest hotels and B&B's in the world, we know what it takes to make guests feel comfortable, welcome and at ease.

Sue & Jim Cropper purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Sue & Jim Cropper chose Laurel Ridge

True premium quality and location. At 3500' in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in a private gated community, with the 22,000 acres of fully protected watershed forest as our neighbor - one can't find a much nicer place to have it all - and be away from it all at the same time - and still be only 10 minutes from town!

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with our land the moment we saw it! It is very rare to find land at 3500' on a mountainside that allows for one level living and a large, moderately sloped/flat driveway - serviced by Asheville's spectacular quality water. We did all the design work on the home prior to construction. From the initial site work through the design and construction of the home, we applied many years of experience to every detail. Very few rental homes have solid oak doors, trim and cabinetry... 11 foot ceilings... their own private entrance... private parking... private patio... washer and dryer... full kitchen, etc. etc. The apartment was designed to give the comfort and service of a luxury condominium (it's actually much larger - and way nicer - than most one bedroom condos!)

Guestbook comments from the owner

The apartment is gorgeous. (and huge!) It's more like a luxury, private condominium than an apartment! We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. It was great to be within ten minutes of Black Mountain and have the apartment to 'get back to nature.' Four thumbs up from us - thank you!

Beautiful Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

We've been here many times over the past few years, and every visit is so peaceful. The rental is spotless, and well equipped. Just a short 10 minute drive to quaint Black Mountain and our favorite coffee shop The Dripolator.

Private apartment behind the family home -- immaculate and charming!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful place to spend part of our North Carolina mountain vacation! The owners were so gracious when we got locked out and when we ran out of coffee. Be aware that the path down to the entrance is pretty steep (as advertised). Had all the amenities we needed!

Peaceful, private, and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts were so kind and accommodating! The place has everything you need and is very comfortable. We loved the town restaurants suggested by the host. We ventured out and did some great hiking in Catawba Falls and even drove to the top of Mt. Mitchell. Great location and very secure. Paved roads all the way to the need for a 4-wheel drive. We would come back! ❤️

Wish We Had More Time Here

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely apartment, clean, spacious and well appointed. We were here for a wedding so we didn't spend much time but the owners provide lots of tips for hiking and restaurants which would have been great if we hadn't been consumed with wedding activities.

Would suggest adding an iron and ironing board and it was chilly and we weren't able to adjust the thermostat or start the fireplace, which was a little frustrating. Other than that, we would definitely recommend this spot for restful relaxation!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your four star review. We’re compelled to reply to it because we are among VRBO’s highest rated five+ star properties anywhere, and we want to respond to each of your (no matter how small!) concerns. Re: iron availability; In our many years hosting guests, yours is only the second time a guest has mentioned the absence of an iron. We cover iron (and anything else!) availability when we tell guests, in writing, upon arrival, that if they need ANYTHING, all they have to do is ask. The same goes for ANY thermostat adjustments. Right on the apartment thermostat, it very clearly states “this is not a thermostat. If you would like any tweak in the temperature, send us a text and we will gladly adjust the temperature for you.” Re: usage of the fireplace; it too is clearly detailed to all guests, in writing, prior to reservation. The apartment fireplace is a gas fireplace that generates a lot of heat. Inasmuch, it only makes sense to enable lighting it in the coldest months of winter, for which we charge an additional charge. (Our nightly rates:quality of accommodation ratio far surpasses anything available anywhere in the market) We strive to keep our rates super fair, and charging for fireplace usage is one of the ways we do it. We hope this further explains our policies on the three topics you mentioned in your review. We sincerely appreciate all the positive comments, and strive to communicate to future guests that we have indeed considered and addressed their every need.
