Why Nicole Carroll chose Saugerties
I fell in love with Fishcreek Cottage the moment I first peeked into the windows.
What makes this Cottage unique
One of the best things about the cottage is its setting, it's on one of those quintessential country roads. A lot of artists make Saugerties home, and our neighbors (many of whom are artists, writers or musicians) are really good people. ;)

Lovely cottage, exactly as promised and ready for us.
The experience was very relaxed and our hostess accommodating to our request for early arrival. Lovely screened in porch provided a nice coffee nook.
Secluded retreat but modern comfort
We stayed here with our two children for a wedding and enjoyed the spacious bathroom and also reading with our children on the porch with a cup of coffee.
Clean, super modernized antique house with everything you could ever think of needing. Nicole was super available and helpful, I would stay here again in a second
Perfect weekend getaway
Nicole's property is well kept and has a lot of charm. We spent our 1 year old daughter's birthday weekend and it was perfect. The house is on a beautiful quiet road but only a short 10 min drive to beautiful downtown where there are loads of stores and restaurants (plenty of organic / farm to table type of options). The house itself is charming, we enjoyed having a cup of tea on the porch, facing wilderness. Kitchen is well stocked with all necessities, bathroom toiletries are of good quality - trader Joe type of stuff. We would definitely come back here.
charming house, perfect location, attentive owner
This charming house is perfectly located between Saugerties and Woodstock on a quiet
country road. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are super-comfortable, all of the
linens and towels are new and of good quality. We stayed in July, when everything was
green, birds were singing, and the nearby Esopus Creek was babbling. It would probably
be cozy and warm in the cooler months, lovely to see the colors of the autumn against the
mountain landscape. We had trouble with the wifi and tv and when, at 9:30 at night, we texted the owner, she came over promptly and fixed everything. We have stayed in many different
rentals in this area and, by far, this was our favorite.
Beautiful, calming and well-appointed
We had a wonderful time at this special cottage! The owner could not have been more accommodating or helpful - she left us a thoughtful note welcoming us and providing us with details about the home. She was very accessible during our travels and stay. The home itself was beautifully furnished, extremely clean and well-appointed. The kitchen was full of light, and stocked with everything we needed for our stay, including coffee, utensils, teas and condiments. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated. We could not have enjoyed our stay more - everything was as promised online, and exceeded our expectations. We plan to return!
Our charming little cottage is located in the heart of the mid-Hudson Valley, exactly 2 hours north of NYC with easy access to everything you came for; nature trails, the Hudson River, Ski Resorts, great shopping and delicious locally grown food.
Ever wonder where NYC gets its water from, up here of course! Head west on RT 28 to experience the majestic Ashokan Reservoir. You will get a breathtaking view of the Catskill Mountains. Plan on walking, roller-blading or biking the flat 5-mile path. Ask a local photographer to point out the bald eagles nest and to give you a peek at their incredible photos.
The cottage is a stone’s throw from Opus 40 sculpture-park, and HITS (Horses in the Sun). I hate to swim in chlorinated water, do you? Stroll up the road about 7 minutes, and dip into a clear, crisp natural swimming hole - aww.
Are you channeling a hippie experience? Head over to Woodstock for a famed Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm's Studios, the legacy lives on. Want to see incredible photographs of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and others in their hay-day? Check out the lobby of the Bearsville Theater, and stay to hear some great acts.
The Woodstock Playhouse offers delightful plays. Don't forget to take in a concert at Maverick (it isn’t just for chamber music). We just saw our friend master bamboo flautist and saxophone player Steve Gorn - fantastic!
Indulge in a zillion films at the Woodstock Film Festival, or pop over the bridge to the other side of the Hudson for the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool festival where you might just see Johnny Depp shopping for sheep - I did, really!
In 1777, Kingston, NY (15 min away) was the first capital of NY. You can still walk around some of the beautiful old stone buildings in the Historic Stockade District, which is full of hipsters with a vibrant music scene. Check out Duo Bistro on John Street, or try one of the many new eateries springing up, Yum-Yum noodle bar won’t disappoint. Speaking of music, Pete Seeger folk music and social change, tour the Maritime Museum, home of the famed Hudson River Sloop, Clearwater. Get a bite to eat at Dolce for breakfast or lunch while you're down on the strand in Kingston. All this site seeing in Kingston is making me thirsty, I'm headed to Keegan Ales - our local brew.
Are you afraid of vampires? We aren't. Come to the Saugerties Garlic Festival – need I say more?
By the way did you know that the Hudson River is not just a river, it is a tidal estuary, an arm of the sea where salty seawater meets fresh water running off the land. Make sure to time the tide right for a dry hike out to the Saugerties lighthouse. Bring a picnic for the deck, and say hello to our friends Patrick, Anna and baby Cricket - the littlest lighthouse keeper in NY State.
Are you exhausted yet? I am! Let’s head back to the cottage to kick back, take a spa-shower, pour a glass of something, and watch the neighbor’s goats graze before we figure out whether we want to cook-in, or eat-out before melting into those divine artisan made beds.
