Gorgeous beach and jungle home
Our family had a wonderful stay at Oceans Edge on Punta Uva beach. The house was gorgeous and had everything we needed to feel comfortable and safe. We woke up daily to the howler monkeys (and saw them right in the backyard with their babies!!). We saw toucans and other wildlife as well. I loved getting up in the morning, opening the gate and wandering across the street being welcomed by the chill music of the Araciffe bar and the ocean. It really is a special, peaceful place! It is also across the road from (in my opinion) the best beach in the area.
A few things I would have liked to know before I went: no hot water in the kitchen. We boiled water for our dishes to wash them. Also, there is nothing there for spices, so pack your own salt and pepper!
Otherwise, we really loved it there and felt right at home! Again, the perfect place for a family to stay. It was very quiet and serene. We hired a car, so that helped with having access to all the other cool things in the area (so many awesome restaurants to eat at closer to town). My parents hired bikes and they found the same (we just found the car easier with having the kids).
We stayed the first 3 nights of our vacation at Oceans Edge Beach House. This home is rustic yet beautiful and in a great location. It's situated off the main road between busy Jamaican style beach towns, remote pristine beaches, and Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge. Although you can't see the beach from the house you can hear it at all times. There's an open air restaurant/bar across the street that opens at 7am playing reggae music, and was a really amazing way to wake up. The yard and landscaping at Ocean's Edge Beach House is a tropical paradise, and the house is breezy and has an amazing upstairs porch with hammock. We rented bikes ($6/day) and visited Peurto Viejo. There we were able to eat dinner on the beach and buy fresh fish and lobsters from the fishermen in the harbor. We also were able to ride down to Manzanillo and snorkel for a day. There's a little grocery store within walking distance and the restaurant stays open until 10pm. I didn't know what to expect, but truly couldn't have asked for better. Caribe Sur Rentals was a fantastic company to work with, as well. I HIGHLY recommend visiting Punta Uva, and I can't wait to return.
Beach and Nature lover's gettaway
Our group was two couples that stayed here for two weeks in March. We were pleased with the house. This is our third house rental in Costa Rica. We found it to be spacious and clean. We appreciated the housekeeping service and supply of fresh towels and water. The kitchen and house are outfitted in a typical way for a beach rental house. The blender and coffee maker worked well. Wifi and a phone would have improved the amenities but we managed without them. This is the Caribbean so expect some rain, damp and bring bug spray (they were not too bad) for the evenings and jungle walks. The location is spectacular in lovely, lovely Punta Uva. We enjoyed the easy access to both the beaches and the viewpoint walk. You can surf, kayak and swim at the river beach and snorkel at the beach right in front of the house. You can rent kayaks and surf boards at Punta Uva River beach. Playa Chiquita and Playa Grande are also within an easy walk. The beaches were quiet during the week and busier on the weekends but even then, there was plenty of room for everyone. The bar across the road was fairly quiet and shut down quite early. The wildlife viewing at the house and neighbourhood was incredible. We saw a large variety of colourful birds in the garden and around the area including trogons, parrots and toucans. We saw sloths and howlers near the beach every day. All sorts of butterflies including the blue morpho visited the garden. We found Punta Uva to be a great location to visit the area by bicycle and by car. We loved Manzanillo with the wildlife refuge (guided hike with Tino was a highlight) and the beach only ten minutes away by car. There are great places to eat and drink within walking and biking distance from the house. Alice’s ice cream, Chocoart and Selvin’s are all wonderful. There is a corner store 5 minutes down the road on foot. A car is recommended if you wish to visit Puerto Viejo, Cahuita and Bribri. We recommend the National Park at Cahuita, the Bribri Chocolate and Waterfall tour and the following restaurants in Puerto Viejo : Como en mi casa Art Cafe, Carribeans Chocolate Tasting Lounge, Bread and Chocolate, Soda Ghetto Girl One Love, Soda Mirna and Cafe Rico.
This Punta Uva Beach House is a great location for a group wishing a beach vacation and a quiet area to stay and enjoy nature.
Great house especially for this area
The house is not quite what is advertised but is a great house. Woke up to holler monkeys and found the location to be perfect balance away from town but not isolated. The decks were great to hang out on in the evenings while listening to the ocean waves and sounds of the jungle. It does not come with kayak or canoe or phone as advertised, and there is no wifi. It does have a bit of a mold problem but I would imagine that is pretty standard in a climate like this. It is also not beach front but across the street with trees and a house in front. Was not problem as it is a very short walk to the beach. The local store is great for getting most of your needs. There is a restaurant beach bar across the street on ocean side where we could connect to wifi and sit and enjoy a cocktail on the beach.
Many thanks for your review and we are happy that you had a great time. We are sorry if there was a misunderstanding. The house never has internet or phone, neither canoe or kayak. And we really don't know where you can have seen that information. Also it is a beach house as it is located very few steps to the beach, across a quiet beach access road in front of the house, as it is advertised.
Punta Uva, where the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge starts. The coast is composed of two bays, separated by Punta Uva point. You will find to the south the district of Arrecife, and to the north a large bay surrounded by jungle vegetation. This is one of the best spots within the region for snorkeling. Don't miss the river kayaking. A small road of about 6 km "Paraíso road", leaves from Punta Uva and crosses the hills to join the road leading to Bribri at the border with Panama.
