I have lived in the neighborhood for many years now and love all the people and nuances of this historic district.
Ivan purchased this Apartment in 1995
Why Ivan chose Sugar Hill
I have always wanted to live in Harlem. I fell in love with this property for many reasons. One is it's size. It is one of the largest in the Bronstone class. (The Apartment is 1024 square feet.) It was built in 1891 and was recently gut renovated in 2001. So all the pipes and electrical systems have been modernized. Even the main pipe line going into the street was changed. Many Brownstones still have the original lead fresh water pipe line.
What makes this Apartment unique
Being located so close to two express subway trains you are 15 minutes from Times Square. I used to work on 34th street. It would take me 21 minutes door to door to get to work in the mornings. These subway lines are a direct line to Museum of Natural History/Rose Center, Lincoln Center, Central Park, Times Square, Time Warner Center, Freedom Tower, and more...

Everyone was very helpful
Love the area. Was further north than I expected, but that was my fault of not knowing which area of Manhattan would work best for me. Great first time experience.
This apartment is big, spacious and filled with light.
We were very happy in this place. It’s roomy, comfortable and close to the subway station. We were greeted by Ivan who graciously gave us a complete tour. The living area is big with lovely windows overlooking the street- a comfy spot to relax. There are 2 comfortable king beds in large rooms.
We felt safe and secure here and the neighborhood has lots of places to grab food and snacks.
Such a great place with a wonderful “host” who is really invested in his home.
Wonderful spacious clean, 1 block from express subway downtown in 20 mins, responsive hosts
Our family of 4 had a fabulous stay here - the apt is very comfortable and clean with sleek high quality furniture and linens, overall even better than the pictures indicate. Our 11 and 14 yo kids loving having a bed each and a room to themselves. A big bonus for out 11 yo that we could walk to Hamiltons house (The Grange) in 5 minutes. Ivan was very responsive - eg. the TV cable box stopped working and he replaced it the same day. Also there was ample coffee, tea supplied which was a very nice touch. Also super efficient desk area for charging devices and my son loved using the chromebook that was available. Would love to stay here again.
Fabulous home away from home for families!
This is an amazing family-friendly apartment in Harlem. Ivan is a kind and gracious host that is quick to answer any questions. This is one of the most spacious apartments you will ever find in NYC. It is immaculate, warm and inviting. Located in a very safe, quiet neighborhood, there is a subway stop with two express and to local trains at the end of the block. A full grocery is a block away, and a great wine store just down the road as well. The beds are very comfortable (king beds in both bedrooms!) andthe kitchen is well stocked with coffee, pots, pans, etc.
The living room is a relaxing and inviting place to put your feet up after a long day.
Easy access to LaGuardia by cab, and quick access to cabs even in the early morning hours.
Our family loved this apartment and we will definitely use it for our home base each time we visit the city in the future!
Great apartment, wonderful space and location!
First of all, thanks so much for this opportunity. With four of us flying in from the other side of the country for a long weekend, we had a great vacation, made all the more special with this awesome place to stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and having two bedrooms is a luxury! While we didn’t need to do laundry, it was nice to know it was available. Of course having a full kitchen makes a big difference, and makes meals in the big city so much more manageable. It was nice to be able to sit at the table, relax on the couches, and enjoy the city views and daylight from the windows. Top it all off with the proximity to subways, truly a wonderful vacation rental.
Comfortable and clean oasis
Ivan was so helpful as a host, and I was blown away at how nice of a place this is in such a convenient location to the subway, and to Hamilton's home! The kitchen was incredibly handy, and so was having the little touches of having chargers available, wifi, etc. Thank you, thank you! I enjoy staying here every time I come to NYC.
Two express and Two local trains stop on the same block as this listing. Twenty Minutes to Times Square.
