About Sue & Rick Lang

Rick & Sue met and married after college while on active duty in the Air Force. Both retired in the late 90's (Sue was an HR manager and Rick a pilot) and moved with their kids from metropolitan Washington D.C. to Texas to begin the next phase of their lives. They knew that Wisconsin (where Sue was raised) was too cold for Rick & West Texas (where he grew up) too brown and flat for Sue. Central Texas with its low unemployment, favorable taxes, affordable cost of living, good schools and reasonable weather seemed like the right choice. We'd looked at Austin & San Antonio, but both cities were growing into huge metropolises so quickly and we really wanted our kids to grow up in a small town environment. We planned an overnight stay in the Fredericksburg area as a part of an RV vacation to check out where to settle. Due to engine problems in the RV, we ended up in town for 4 days and fell in love. The rest is history. (Just ask Rick to tell you about it...he loves to share the story.)

Sue & Rick Lang purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Sue & Rick Lang chose Fredericksburg

Both Rick & Sue love wine and were toying with the idea of growing grapes and making wine themselves. Even back in the late 1990's, Fredericksburg was a designated viticultural area and showed great potential. So, first they bought a wine tasting room on Main St to learn all about what the consumer was looking for in wine and get to know local winemakers. Then they purchased their property with the plan to plant a vineyard and follow their dream. One thing led to another and before you knew it, they not only had the wine tasting room, but had also started Fredericksburg's very first winery touring business while each having their own full time jobs. After 7 yrs and quickly growing kids, they decided it was time to sell both businesses and focus on family. They never did plant vines on their property, but have help plant vines, haverst and produce wine with their good friends from Texas Hills Vineyard. Now that their kids have grown and moved on they wanted a place where the kids could stay and bring their friends and families along to visit. So tehy designed and built the Casetta in the summer of 2014 and furnished it like some of the lovely B&Bs they stayed in on a recent trip to Italy. They hope you will find it as friendly as visiting family and as comfortable and elegant as a 5-star hotel. They look forward to sharing the beauty and peacefulness of their property with you.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is located just outside Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg is a small town with a unique German flavor in its Hauptstrasse (Main Street) architecture and unique Sunday Houses. Weekenders from nearby San Antonio and Austin have long appreciated the charm of our small town with its selection of high class restaurants. delicious BBQ and live music scene. The surrounding Texas Hill Country is home to lush peach orchards and vineyards. It is one of the country's largest viticulture areas and Wine Spectator magazine recently named it one of the Top 10 Wine Travel Destinations in the World for 2014. Wildlife abounds with a wide variety of birds, Axis and Mule deer, and Mouflon sheep along with usual horses and cows can be seen on grazing ours and adjoining ranches. The best part about this property is that you can just sit on the front porch overlooking the hill country, enjoying the peace and quiet, spectacular sunsets, while sipping a glass of world class local wine and feel your worries slipping away.

Over the top AMAZING!!

  • 5 of 5

The host and hostess Rick and Sue have thought of everything to make your stay relaxing and comfortable! This is definitely an upscale and elegant cabin including all of the cabin furnishings and amenities are of very high quality. What makes this property so unique is the location. Within the first 90 minutes of our stay we saw deer, open range, horses, wild turkeys and humming birds galore. Be sure to bring your binocolars as you relax on the AMAZING front porch! If your bringing your furry friend, again Rick and Sue have thought of everything. While being comforted with the totally fenced in front yard, they even provided a "grunge towel" to wipe off their wet paws as well as doggie food and water bowls. Do yourself, friends and family a favor and experience this amazing elegant cabin. My husband, furry friend and I will definitely return to this huge slice of relaxation.

Quaint and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My aunt and I rented this cabin for a wine excursion and birthday celebration weekend. The owners left us a nice welcome note and bottle of wine. The special touches were so welcoming. The cabin is tucked away from the main hustle of things, but close enough to get anywhere you want to go in Fredericksburg. We were so happy to be able to cook our meals and even enjoy a fire after a day of wine tasting. I will definitely be renting this little gem next time I am in town!

Beautiful cabin In Fredericksburg

  • 3 of 5

Arrived at check in time 4:00 with a sweet little cabin with two bedrooms and a kitchenette and living area. Quiet and beautiful place outside of Fredericksburg. Porch was very inviting!! It was too bad check out was at 10:00am. We would have stayed a little longer to take in the view. Great place for two best friends to hang out.

FYI, no cable TV or satellite. And beware of scorpions 😲

Very nice cabin, lots of thoughtful details

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our 28th anniversary weekend in Fredericksburg. We were drawn to the description of quiet isolated country cabin, lots of stars, but close to town and wineries. This property mostly delivered, with a few caveats.

FIrst, the good. This is a lovely, new wood cabin with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The WIFI was not working, but we didn't really want to use it anyway. The king bed was super comfortable. We loved the Keurig coffee machine. The owner had thoughtfully left a bottle of wine, and also a little bottle of Champagne so we could celebrate our anniversary. There is a lovely porch on which to sit and have dinner, and a fire pit. We didn't use the fire pit, because we wanted darkness so we could see the billions of stars! Also much appreciated was the Yorkie-proof fence surrounding the cabin! We never saw or heard from the owners, but we never really needed to speak with them.

The bad (or disappointing). I really feel like the description of the cabin is very misleading. It states that there is another cabin 200 YARDS away, which is completely false. For it to be 200 yards would mean that they have the length of 2 football fields in between them. The cabin next door is about 50 FEET away with a shared driveway for both cabins. So close, in fact, that we felt like we had to keep our voices down when outside so as not to disturb the woman next door. The owners should probably post a picture of the two cabins side-by-side, to really show the proximity (and note the true distance). Also, when we pulled up to the shared driveway between the two cottages, the next door neighbor was gone, but her 3 large dogs were outside and barking at us very loudly (and one of them especially was very aggressive). It was pretty intimidating and we felt a bit threatened. Now, I'm a dog person, and in fact we had our little Yorkie with us, so I know those dogs were just protecting their property and are very sweet dogs, BUT, due to the closeness of their fenced yard to the shared driveway, it was not very welcoming at all. During the rest of our stay, they were not loud at all.

We did enjoy our stay in Fredericksburg - so much to see and do!
