About Sue & Rick Lang

Rick & Sue met and married after college while on active duty in the Air Force. Both retired in the late 90's (Sue was an HR manager and Rick a pilot) and moved with their kids from metropolitan Washington D.C. to Texas to begin the next phase of their lives. They knew that Wisconsin (where Sue was raised) was too cold for Rick & West Texas (where he grew up) too brown and flat for Sue. Central Texas with its low unemployment, favorable taxes, affordable cost of living, good schools and reasonable weather seemed like the right choice. We'd looked at Austin & San Antonio, but both cities were growing into huge metropolises so quickly and we really wanted our kids to grow up in a small town environment. We planned an overnight stay in the Fredericksburg area as a part of an RV vacation to check out where to settle. Due to engine problems in the RV, we ended up in town for 4 days and fell in love. The rest is history. (Just ask Rick to tell you about it...he loves to share the story.)

Sue & Rick Lang purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Sue & Rick Lang chose Hill Country

Both Rick & Sue love wine and were toying with the idea of growing grapes and making wine themselves. Even back in the late 1990's, Fredericksburg was a designated viticultural area and showed great potential. So, first they bought a wine tasting room on Main St to learn all about what the consumer was looking for in wine and get to know local winemakers. Then they purchased their property with the plan to plant a vineyard and follow their dream. One thing led to another and before you knew it, they not only had the wine tasting room, but had also started Fredericksburg's very first winery touring business while each having their own full time jobs. After 7 yrs and quickly growing kids, they decided it was time to sell both businesses and focus on family. They never did plant vines on their property, but have help plant vines, haverst and produce wine with their good friends from Texas Hills Vineyard. Now that their kids have grown and moved on they wanted a place where the kids could stay and bring their friends and families along to visit. So tehy designed and built the Casetta in the summer of 2014 and furnished it like some of the lovely B&Bs they stayed in on a recent trip to Italy. They hope you will find it as friendly as visiting family and as comfortable and elegant as a 5-star hotel. They look forward to sharing the beauty and peacefulness of their property with you.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is located just outside Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg is a small town with a unique German flavor in its Hauptstrasse (Main Street) architecture and unique Sunday Houses. Weekenders from nearby San Antonio and Austin have long appreciated the charm of our small town with its selection of high class restaurants. delicious BBQ and live music scene. The surrounding Texas Hill Country is home to lush peach orchards and vineyards. It is one of the country's largest viticulture areas and Wine Spectator magazine recently named it one of the Top 10 Wine Travel Destinations in the World for 2014. Wildlife abounds with a wide variety of birds, Axis and Mule deer, and Mouflon sheep along with usual horses and cows can be seen on grazing ours and adjoining ranches. The best part about this property is that you can just sit on the front porch overlooking the hill country, enjoying the peace and quiet, spectacular sunsets, while sipping a glass of world class local wine and feel your worries slipping away.

One of the best places we've ever stayed. Quiet and charming.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Casseta. It was the perfect getaway from the big city. Quiet, serene, and equipped with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The morning views are breathtaking. Our dog loved spending time in the fenced yard where he could sniff around and see the loose livestock. The Casseta was located just far enough away from Fredericksburg where we felt very secluded, but not so far that we couldn't easily be in town in about 10 minutes. Sue and Rick were excellent hosts. Can't wait to come back.

Great stay

We had a wonderful time at the Cabin. Wish we could have spent more time outside but the weather didn't hold up for us. Thank you for letting us spend the weekend there.

Owner's Response: We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Its too bad the weather didn't cooperate as one of the great things about the cabin is relaxing on the front porch. We hope you'll come stay again when the weather is nicer and take advantage of the porch and enjoying the scenery and beautiful starry skies.

Beautiful, homey, welcoming, and perfect country getaway

  • 5 of 5

I want to thank the Langs for allowing us to rent this cute little cabin. It was precious. 2 bedroom with very comfy beds. The place was absolutely adorable and we felt right at home. The home still smells of fresh wood as if it were just built last week. The porch was perfect to sit and drink coffee while our husbands made breakfast. The fire pit was amazing at night to gaze at the stars. The moon reflects off the metal in just the perfect way. The outside lights make this cabin so inviting and homey. You get to drive down this long dirt road through fields of cattle, rabbits, and deer. We saw so many cute baby deer every morning. It's just far enough away from town to get the peace and quiet without making too long of a trip to get groceries, shop on Main Street, or tour a winery. The Langs were the perfect hosts and were so kind to us. They brought fire wood and gave us a delicious bottle of wine from Texas Hills as our welcome! They were very responsive through calls or texts if we had questions. If you are going to rent in the Fredericksburg area, rent here. It's our new little slice of heaven. I would love to move there. It was the perfect country getaway and we felt so cozy and right at home. We cannot wait to return!!

Owner's Response: Wow. Thanks for the kind words. We're so glad you enjoyed our little piece of Heaven in the Hill Country. The peace and quiet is truly rejuvinating when you're taking a break from high stress jobs in the big city. This time of year the wildlife is active especially in morning and at dusk. Glad you had the opportunity to see some of the "neighbors" in their natural habitat. Again, thanks for the great review and we hope to be your hosts on another trip to Fredericksburg.

Cosy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for the weekend and enjoyed its proximity to Fredericksburg. We liked the fact that it was in a quiet country setting: it provided plenty of time for relaxation. We enjoyed the fire pit and large deck but were particularly happy that the front yard was securely fenced, which enabled us to bring our two dogs. Everything was great, thank you Rick and Sue.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Casseta Toscano. The front yard was fenced in hopes that furry family members could enjoy some time outside with family without having to be on leashes. It's finally cool enough for fires and we're glad you got to enjoy the firepit and see the beautiful stars in the night sky. Thanks again for the great review, we hope to host your family again in the future.

Beautiful, relaxing, & quiet get away. We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at this cabin! It was clean & the attention to detail for the guests was very nice. It is located far enough from town to enjoy the country, but close enough to enjoy Fredericksburg also. Our favorite part was sitting on the porch enjoying the scenery & the quiet! The cabin had everything you need for a stay. The internet worked great. You could not ask for better hosts - Rick & Sue are wonderful! They checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
