About Richard Ziegler

My wife & I moved to New Orleans in August of 2000. What can we say . . . . we fell in love with the city and are still here 16 years later.

Richard Ziegler purchased this house in 2004

Why Richard Ziegler chose Garden District

This is/was our 1st home in New Orleans. We absolutely love the house, neighbors & neighborhood. As such, we could never imagine selling the house. We built a new house in the past couple years but still live 6-8 blocks away in the Irish Channel.

What makes this house unique

Wonderful home in a vibrant neighborhood. Walking distance to Magazine Street - close proximity to all great neighborhoods in New Orleans.

Perfect house for us! Large, comfortable, well appointed and gracious owner.

  • 5 of 5

We were here for a graduation. Our family of six adults stayed here - so the four bedrooms were perfect. Richard stopped by when we were checking in to follow up on the cleaners and make sure all was in perfect order. Later, he stopped by to bring extra chairs for outside.

Kitchen is well equipped, bathrooms nice and the WC/ half bath useful. The house is convenient to public transportation and Magazine Street.

We love NOLA and when we return, would definitely consider staying at 3214 Laurel Street in Richard's house if we needed a large house again.

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of the house do not do it justice. It is huge, with a lot of extra space in both the common areas and the bedrooms. It is located on a safe block, in close proximity to a lot of restaurants and shopping on Magazine Street. Richard was also very accommodating.

Great house, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for the second time for our yearly family gathering. The house is very comfortable, and in easy walking distance to shops, bars, and restaurants. Richard, the owner, is a local, and is very easy to work with and super responsive to questions. We definitely plan to return!!

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

This house is great! Location is great, this is our second time in the Garden District and the location is the best. House is beautiful, clean and everything you need is there! There were 8 of us and had plenty of room. We had no trouble finding a parking place for the rental and you are 2 blocks from the bus! Will recommend to friends!

Beautiful old home.

  • 3 of 5

The house was beautiful, the neighborhood was great, only two blocks from Magazine Street, and we really enjoyed the screened in porch in the back yard. On the downside, the house could really use some updates....the couches weren't very comfortable, the chair in master bedroom needs to be restuffed, the freezer leaked water onto the kitchen floor, the microwave is ancient and has no tray, and the master bath shower setup needs a redo. We were also disappointed that the washer and dryer were out of order. But in spite of all these minor inconveniences, the house is beautiful and we did enjoy our stay. I hope the homeowner will consider my feedback and make the necessary improvements.

Owner's Response: Although I'm sincerely happy that you enjoyed your stay I do feel the need to address your comments. We've had hundreds of guests stay in the house since we moved out in 2015 and I proactively ask each one how we can make the house more comfortable for future guests. Since nobody has ever mentioned that the couches are uncomfortable, it seems to me that this may be more of a personal preference. It also seems that your comment regarding the bathroom is a personal style critique rather than constructive feedback - we feel that the pictures accurately depict the house, so I'm not sure how your expectations could've been better managed in this regard. The microwave is “ancient” as you put it; however, we keep it because it works perfectly fine. As to the missing plate . . . the housekeeper mistakenly put it in the cupboard above the microwave rather than replace it after it was cleaned. I'm not sure why you simply didn’t replace it or ask me about if it was an issue. Lastly, it is true that the washing machine was not working. We have been having a torrid time trying to get it fixed through Best Buy’s Geek Squad because unfortunately it is under warranty with them. They have literally been to the house on 5 separate occasions and still couldn't get it to work. Best Buy finally decided to replace the whole unit (which they have already done). We discussed this while you were here and I offered to have any laundry that you wanted cleaned sent out to have it professionally laundered and folded. You didn't take me up on my offer but instead asked for extra towels, which I promptly provided. You're correct in that the freezer does leak a bit. In order to fix it the part and labor would exceed the cost of a brand new unit. That being the case we have decided to live with the water it sometimes leaks on the floor rather than replacing an otherwise perfectly fine refrigerator and freezer. In conclusion, I'm truly sorry that you found so many things unsatisfactory, but based on the numerous emails and calls I received from you during your 4-day stay (including the email telling me that the new coffee maker was broken & that your husband was on his way to the store to buy a new one . . . only to respond 5 minutes later to tell me that it was your operator error and confirmed that it functioned properly), I got the sense that you were more interested in complaining about the perceived issues you and your guests were having rather than finding solutions.
