In the Heart of Kailua-Kona. Ocean View. Walk to Beaches, Restaurants and Shops!

Bedrooms 2
Space 650 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Two Bedroom, One Bath, Fully Equipped Kitchen. Lanai with Ocean View!

This is your home away from home. A cozy, newly remodeled, two bedroom, one bath condo located two blocks from the ocean in the Heart of downtown Kailua-Kona.

The second story location affords views of the ocean, mountain side, and Kailua Town, while catching the cool ocean breezes. On the extra warm days, the air-conditioner will help you chill out.

The living area has a sofa, two chairs with ottomans, and a coffee table, with a view onto the lanai and the blue Pacific beyond.

Relax on the lanai with your morning coffee, evening cocktail, or any mealtime (actually, anytime you'd like).

The living room and main bedroom both have flat screen TVs. A DVD player and an assortment of DVDs are provided for your viewing pleasure.

You will find a roomy king size bed in main bedroom, along with a dresser and full mirrored closet doors. Just outside are colorful, flowering Plumeria trees, and ocean breezes waft through your open window.

The second bedroom offers a queen size bed, also with dresser and full mirrored closet doors, and a tropical garden view.

There are ceiling fans throughout the home, including the kitchen, which is usually all you'll need to stay cool.

A fully equipped kitchen, and super markets within walking distance, will allow you to dine in, saving you both time and money that you can spend, instead, on your Island Adventures.

The bathroom has a large walk-in shower with a bench seat. We encourage you to save water and shower with a friend!

A short walk through the nicely landscaped grounds will lead you to the pool pavilion, where you can swim, or relax in a lounge chair, working on your Hawaiian tan. Here, you will also find picnic tables and a gas BBQ for grilling your freshly caught Ahi steaks.

Because you're so close to everything, you won't even need to rent a car until you're ready to go off and explore the rest of the Island. In less than a five minute walk, you've reached beautiful, historic, Kamakahonu ('the turtle eye') Beach. The calm waters make this a safe spot for both children and adults alike. It's a popular beach with snorkeling and kayaking and you can rent such equipment right there. Adjacent to the beach is the Kailua Pier, the jump off point for several boating tours. From here you can also stroll down Ali'i Drive, which is lined with shops, galleries, restaurants, museums, night clubs, farmer's market, parks, and more beaches.

The World Famous Kona Brewing Co. is also just a five minute walk away. They offer a variety of micro brews that you won't find in any store, often with live music, and a delicious menu for your dining pleasure.

Many people find Kailua Town offers enough activities to keep them entertained for several days of their vacation.

About David and Elaine

Elaine & Dave live on the Hilo side of the Big Island, two hours away from Kailua-Kona, in the lush rain forest. We enjoy an occasional get-a-way to the Kona side ourselves, the dry and sunny side of the Island. We raise Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys, Llamas, and Honey Bees. You'll get a chance to sample a complimentary jar of our Hawaiian Wild Flower Honey if you choose to stay at Hale Pono.

David and Elaine purchased this condo in 2014

Why David and Elaine chose Kailua-Kona

Not only is it in a great location, within walking distance of everything, but we are also able to offer it at a very affordable price. We've stayed at several local hotels ourselves and have found them expensive and inconvenient.

What makes this condo unique

Ocean and sunset views with ocean breezes. Near the route for the Ironman Triathlon. You can do without a car. Plus, you have the opportunity to interact with regular local people, if you choose.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

The in-town location of this condo was great! It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the table & chairs on the lanai were just right. The only drawback was the ineffective air conditioning and restictions on its use. Overall a very good place to stay.

Quality for the price

  • 4 of 5

Had a great stay! The condo was clean and comfortable in a convenient location for walking to restaurants and hub of Kona. Appreciated the amenities. Left side of the stove didn't work, but we're able to cook just fine. Would recommend this!

David is very helpful and prompt. Mahalo David.

The unit is located on Palani Road and Kuakini Hway, about 8 minutes walk to Alii Drive strip which is the touristy area. Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and gym across the street. The location is close to Courtyard by Marriot King Kamehamehas. The unit has designated parking area, cable and wifi. The unit is clean and upgraded. The kitchen is kinda small but upgraded, it includes full size, gas range, fridge and appliances, kitchen stuff are complete. There is patio set in the lanai, we used it during dinner and breakfast. From the lanai, you can see the ocean and cruiseline on Wed.There is coin operated laundry facility in the complex, we packed light so we used the laundry. Bathroom is fair size and clean. There are enough bath and beach towels provided. There are beach stuff stored in the second bedroom, including a small cooler. Both beds are comfortable and so as the pillows. The living area is big enough to chill.

Although Alii Drive is walking distance, you need a car to get around to the mall, Costco, Walmart, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, south shore beaches, tours, Volcano National park and to Hilo. We did our own tours so having a car rental is very useful and saved time and money.

The best beach for us is the Mauna Kea Beach on the north shore.

No dishwasher.

No elevator, the unit is located on the 3rd floor. Outdoor stairways though.

Need a car to go to the beach. There are pockets of beaches along the Alii Drive, Magic Sands Beach Park is my favorite, it is small but white sandy beach.

There is only one air condition in the unit which is located in the living room area, however, it is not strong enough to cool the whole unit particularly in both bedrooms. Although there are ceiling fan in every room and the instructions on how to keep the bedrooms cool, it sill do not help to cool down , the bedrooms still remain really hot and uncomfortable to sleep at night. This has been frequently mentioned in the previous reviews and the big downside of this unit. So, this is nothing new.

Also, it is located in the residential complex so be prepared to put up with the permanent residents way of life.

Overall, the unit is clean and upgraded, good location and David is helpful and prompt, 3 stars for me.

So Ozone Park, NY

Best Location of all our stays in Kona.

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 3 stayed in the Hale Pono condo for 5 days and we really liked it

We visit the Big Island through the years & stayed in numerous places. Some on the beach, in town and as far as in Captain Cook. Each has its pros and cons but we like to be close to town but not have the noise. Usually stay in a studio/1 bedroom, but this time we needed an additional bedroom which the previous places don't offer. The Hale Pono is well situated & updated nicely with modern fans, kitchen & is located within the Palani Condo complex. It is close to the main strip, the Kona Brewery, shops, groceries, the shore, all within walking distance. The condo is on a 2nd floor. No elevator (so if you have alot of luggage, going up the 2 flight of stairs may be an issue). The complex itself is well maintained, has a communal pool & an outdoor grill but the beach is 2 blocks away & all the Hawaiian Onolicious foods in the area, I doubt one will use them. Its a two bdrm unit with full kitchen & a mini breakfast nook in place of a dining table. Free wi-fi as well. Each room & bdrms has remote control fans which keep the room cool. One AC in the living room. If it gets too hot, one can keep the bedroom door open & the AC cool eventually goes into the bdrms. The fans were fine. The lanai is accessible from the living room & offers a nice room of the ocean which is about 800 feet away. The unit is equipped with all sorts of beach stuff to use. Each bedroom has a large bed (quite comfy) & plenty of storage space. The rooms are average in size for the Kona area. They provide an outstanding visitors book with info of the Kona area. Not even the Marriot down the street has one. A free parking space is provides a parking place for free. We arrived and there was a scheduling cleaning issue & the room was not ready. (Usual housekeeper had an emergency) so the owners David and Elaine put us up in the Marriot down the block and personally came to address the issue themselves. Considering that they live across the island, I found that to be a really nice touch and dedication to their renters. The next morning we found the unit ready for use. I've stayed at the Marriot previously and even on the waterfront, the noise and the beds are nothing to praise. The Hale Pono on the other hand, the beds are way more comfy & the unit does not have the noise even being situated close to Palani road, plus it is a third of the price.

Only complaint is that we wish we would have stayed longer.

Convnient place, lovely home

  • 4 of 5

Our whole family enjoyed staying in this condo during our 5-day stay in Kona area. We could just walk 5 minutes to beaches, restaurants, and other places. It's close to everything, you name it. The condo is small, but we only come back to sleep anyway. I wish it has more beach gears, like surf boards, floating noodles, since we cannot pack those on the airplane. :(
