Overview

About the property

With water views overlooking the 5,000 acre Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, we think Sanibel on the Preserve is a perfect vacation home. A large, heated pool and deck offer a private oasis, and Bowman’s Beach – the premier beach on Sanibel – is just a 15-min. walk or short bike ride away. There’s ample beach parking, too. The house has a comfortable, open design with cathedral ceilings and great views of the bayou and the nature preserve - great for nature lovers. In fact, we've been told there's better birding and animal sightings in our back yard than anywhere else on the island. The large kitchen, which is open to the living room, dining room and eat-in kitchen, will delight the cook in your family. A window lined lanai serves as the dining room. Comfortable for a couple but easily accommodates guests and family as well with 3 guest bedrooms and 3 full baths. Sanibel on the Preserve feels like a retreat, yet you’re 10 minutes from Sanibel’s shops and restaurants.

Why Bob Moore and Ariel Hoover chose Sanibel Island

We fell in love with this place immediately when we saw it. The house is wide open with lots of light and high ceilings, and the location is a nature lover's paradise. We see countless species of birds in our yard and in the mangroves across the bayou and other wildlife sightings, too. Because our land backs up to the 5,000 acre nature preserve, this house feels like a peaceful retreat, but we're just minutes from stores and restaurants. We're also close to Bowman's beach, which offers miles of protected shoreline. The house holds the two of us comfortably when we're here alone, but there's also plenty of space when our kids and grandkids come to visit. We have had some of our best family vacations ever here. The pool is a great family hang out space, and it's long enough for me to swim laps, too. We think this is the best place ever!

What makes this house unique

Nature sightings, private pool, 20 foot cathedral ceilings with an open floor plan and plenty of natural light, minutes to on one of the nicest beaches we've ever seen, miles of bike paths, great kayaking.

Our stay was one to be remembered!

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful, private, clean and delightful. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and would book it again. Sanibel Island is a treasure and everything was lovely. The owners were available and responsive which made things even better. We can't say enough about this property and we would definitely recommend it to others. We spent the entire month of Feb., 2016 there and now it's only a memory we shall share with friends and family.

Sanibel Oasis!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this lovely spot in January and had such a memorable time. The house's layout worked well for our family of 5 plus my father. Good options to hang out together but lots of space to be alone as well. The kitchen was large and well equipped. We loved the views out both sides of the house and so enjoyed the birds and occasional gator that we were able to see from the house. We had some great photo opportunities throughout our stay. The Ding Darling Preserve was fabulous and we enjoyed several trips through the wildlife loop. We loved the proximity of the house to both the preserve and the beach and also enjoyed that it was out of the traffic that we encountered on the other end of the island (near bridge to mainland). We really liked eating on Captiva for less traffic and a great island vibe. Bowman Beach was a popular hang-out for walking, shelling, playing in the ocean. We also enjoyed Blind Pass Beach, just up the road 5 min from the house. We had good luck with a variety of shells there.

As with most beach properties, its a good idea to stock up on groceries before coming to the island. Sanibel stores were crazy expensive for groceries, paper products, etc. Going back to Ft. Myers was more of a drive/hassle than anticipated due to the slow traffic to get off island and back.

We would totally recommend this property for anyone wishing to have a quiet, convenient location with great views. The pool was fabulous and very clean. The owners were very responsive to our questions and very easy to work with. Relative to the property that we stayed at in Orlando, this was a dream stay. Hope to return again soon. Thanks Bob and Ariel!

Very Quite!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this rental was perfect for us! We rode our bikes around the loop in Ding Darling Preserve every morning (except Friday's, they're closed) and most evenings. It's a 8 mile loop, so that was perfect for us old people. There was always something to stop and watch! We also liked the fact that the homes back yard is in the preserve, abundant wildlife to photo. The home is very specious and well stocked. Our favorite place to eat was the Timbers Restaurant. The fish there was outstanding! Sanibel is a great place to visit, if you haven't been there, you're missing one of the most beautiful islands in the United States. Fishing is great from shore!!

I loved this place!

  • 5 of 5

I was more than satisfied with this beautiful Sanibel home. I loved the spacious kitchen, dining area overlooking the bayou and the feel of a "home" vs house. From the dinner table we saw great blue heron, egret and wood stork. The house was clean, well stocked, and fit our needs perfectly. The owners were kind, accessible and helpful. I will definitely return to this place!

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a second honeymoon here...it was private, clean, and comfortable, and we loved watching the wildlife right from the lanai. Seeing the osprey and other birds "bed down" for the night - right across from the yard- was a treat I have never seen before!

It was an easy bike ride to Ding Darling and back.

I thought that I would prefer a beach front lodging, but was delighted with the whole feel of this home and its site. We would definitely stay here again.

Regarding the questions on this site:

Yes, the listing description was accurate, and the photos are totally accurate.

The property was clean and well-maintained.

The owner was very helpful in answering our questions, and made good recommendations for bike rentals, and restaurants.

I have recommended this property to friends and relatives both.

Thanks!

An amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We went there for our honeymoon and we were anything but dissapointed. Its a very open house and very clean. Outside of the many windows there is a nature preserve where we saw turtles and many birds of paradise. Just a short bike ride away, you can find many beaches and bike over the bridge to Captiva. There is so much to do on this Island for people who love nature and for people who are looking to relax. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood and is a very peacful place to stay. The pool was AMAZING for mid day cool offs. The owners are very nice and accomodating.
