About Melissa Childs of Stellar Properties

I traded the beaches of Cape Cod for the mountains of the West in 1990. I have lived in SW Colorado for the past 20 yrs. When I moved to Silverton, I knew it was home. This area has all of the things I like to do...skiing (both resort and backcountry), snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, it's all here, plus so much more. Winter is a magical time here. I love the quietness and peacefulness. This is an amazing community and I'm so thankful that I am a part of it. I have met some of my dearest and closest friends here. Life is always changing and full of surprises.

I'm a Jewelry Designer, specifically a Silversmith. I participate in art shows during the winter months, mainly in Tucson, AZ. I spend most of my winters in the desert now with my boyfriend, Ken, and our dogs, Charley and Kendall. I am fortunate that I can still spend part of my winters and my summers in Silverton.

Melissa Childs of Stellar Properties purchased this house in 2004

Why Melissa Childs of Stellar Properties chose Southwest

My neighborhood is so quiet. Town is so close that I can walk or ride my bike. I'm not impacted by what is going on in town when I'm in my home. Plus, I have awesome neighbors!

What makes this house unique

I love that I can gaze out my bedroom window in the morning and see Sultan and Grand Turk peaks. I can be in the kitchen, looking out the windows and see Kendall Mountain. You know what I love most about this house? I built a 'Drying Room' under the stairs! After a long day of playing in the mountains, I can put all of my wet gear in there and it will be dry by the morning. All will be ready for another adventuresome day. There is nothing like putting on a toasty, warm pair of boots on a cold winter's morning!

Super spacious and clean

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with five of my friends while skiing at Silverton for the weekend. The house was perfect for our large group. The kitchen was great for cooking large meals, and the bedrooms were supersized. The house was clean and well-maintained. The fenced yard was great for my dog (though the snow drifts were high enough that my dog could run over the top of the fence in one location!). My only complaint is that there is only one shower in the house; the downstairs bathroom only has a tub. I would recommend this to friends and family, and would definitely rent the home again on my next visit to Silverton.

Fantastic Property!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home! It was VERY clean, comfortable, and had great energy. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook, and there was plenty of space to store our food items. The rooms are very spacious and we loved the claw-foot tub/shower! King beds would have been nice in the bedrooms, but the queen beds were very comfortable and suited us just fine. We will stay at this house from now on when we venture to Silverton!

Excellent Location and Spacious

  • 5 of 5

Our trip consisted of me and 3 buddies for 4 days of skiing/snowboarding at Silverton Mountain. The location of the house to the mountain is only 15 minutes and also just a few blocks from the main drag with all the bars and restaurants.

The pictures do not really paint a solid picture of what the house offers. The rooms are spacious and well appointed and the house has everything you need. It would have been nice if the beds were king size or if there were 1 or 2 inflatable mattresses, although the futon in the living room folds out and is very comfortable.

The stove/oven was very nice and the kitchen was big enough for all 4 of us to work in while preparing our meals. All necessary utensils and pots/pans are provided as well as a large assortment of spices and other cooking essentials and there is a nice dining table to enjoy meals together.

My favorite thing about the house is the huge vinyl and CD collection. We had a great time taking turns playing music but I was always happy when it was my turn so we could listen to Jerry.

Being the winter season we found that many of the local restaurants and bars often close for the winter season since summers are the busy season; however, we still had fun and enjoyed food everywhere we went.

We have no complaints about the property. There was plenty of towels and even some toiletries provided in case you forgot to pack something. The house was very cozy and the fire in the living room was cozy. If you plan to make a fire I highly recommend that you read the instruction/house manual binder provided by the owners. We failed to do this and struggled to get a nice fire going but after reading the instructions we had not problems.

Book the house, you won't be sorry!

Great home

  • 5 of 5

The house is great. Stocked with most everything you need. Elk were seen on the mountain every morning. Walking distance to shopping /dining. We took our 3 grandchildren ages 12, 9, 5. Plenty of room. There is only 1 TV and with kids a 2nd TV would have been nice but they were so tired from skiing all day that it didn't really matter. We would definitely stay here again.
