About Kathy Spencer

Several years ago we moved from Colorado to Northern VA. We raise Quarter Horses and Shires but in our spare time, we enjoy water sports, fishing and swimming. Lake Anna is the perfect place for it. We hope you will feel the same way after spending your vacation here.

Kathy Spencer purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Kathy Spencer chose Bumpass

Three years ago we started looking for just the right lake home to purchase. Our poor realtor had to show us everything available on the lake until we found this stunning log home situated on the perfect property for us. It was not an easy task to find the right home for us as we really wanted so many things! I wanted a swim area to teach my grandchildren to swim. It needed to have a gentle slope and sandy bottom. I needed a dock/boat house that was deep water for ease in getting our boats in and out of it. It was important to me to have a view of the lake from the house so that I could watch the family waterski, boat, and tube and take wonderful photos from the comfort of my beautiful home. A 5 bedroom home was desirable and we wanted to make sure that there were plenty of bathrooms to limit sharing so this 5 bedroom/5 bathroom log beauty was just the right fit. Both Rustic and Refined makes this the most comfortable home on the lake!

What makes this cabin unique

Both Rustic and Refined describes our beautiful log home. The wall of windows in the great room allow anyone who hasn't gone out in the boat to have a panoramic scenic view of the lake and family enjoying it. The sunset is lovely from this location. Our home has all the necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. It is warm, inviting, solid and certainly more sustainable than conventional housing on the lake. If it could talk, each log would have a story to tell and it would be delighted to welcome you in.

Relaxing and pretty

  • 5 of 5

Nicely located, well stocked and relaxing home. Kathy is responsive and provides lots of helpful information. We took advantage of the well stocked kitchen and made gourmet style meals for our group of 12. We recommend future guests bring wine glasses. The beds are quite comfortable and it was helpful to have 5 bathrooms with a large crowd like ours. Many thanks.

Owner's Response: Dear Sheila, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It was great to have guests that treated our Vacation Home so well. Thank you for the suggestion about wine glasses. Our family does not drink and so that is something that had completely gone over my head! I will purchase wine glasses for the home so future guests won't have to bring their own. I truly appreciate when my guests let me know the items that I have missed in my quest to make our home a Vacation Home that others can and will enjoy too. I hope you were able to enjoy the home and see some of our local wildlife enjoying the lake. I truly love watching the Eagles and Osprey fishing. To be able to watch the birds of prey from our floor to ceiling windows, even when the day is a bit chilly, is a great thrill for me. Often times they sit at the very top of the big tree that is located between the cabin and the lake and will even eat their daily catch up there. It is my sincere hope that you will think of Heron's Cove as YOUR Vacation home away from home and enjoy future stays there. Thank you again.

A little piece of Heaven not too far from home.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time over the Spring break with the extended family. The cabin is large, well laid out and bright. The bright open layout of the common rooms made everything about the place better. It is well furnished and well stocked with everything we needed for 8 adults and 5 children. The water sports equipment are great and we were blessed with good weather so that the kids were up and out on the paddle boards and the kayaks most days. We had absolutely no complaints and Kathy was very open and responsive to a few minor suggestions that we made. Nothing but thumps up from our family.

What a great property!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house and I didn't want to leave. The views and decks were expansive, the beds were comfy and lots of space to spread out. The place was spotless and the kitchen well appointed. One of the best things about this house is the well maintained yard, kayaks and the dock. There is good depth of water so we could fish off the dock in addition to jumping in the kayak to fish next to the nearby bridge.

The owners are very responsive and seems to really want to make sure people have a great time at their house. We had a few issues with the trash pickup, but I suspect it was a one time hiccup that the owner has resolved. We had a great time!

Beautiful vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us... three couples and a single. With the way the house is designed, we could all be together or have our separate and quiet spaces apart. The house is right on the lake with beautiful views. The herons and deer came by to visit. The kayaks provided a great way to explore the lake. We would love to go back again. The owner (again, thank you!) was especially nice and accommodating.

Owner's Response: Hello Holly, Thank you for the lovely review. I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at Heron's Cove. I'm excited that all the wonderful wildlife were enjoyed by your family and friends. It is lovely to get away from the city and have the chance to be around nature. I know that when I'm at the cabin, one of my favorite things to do is sit on the deck and watch the eagles hunt. Often they will fly into the tree between the house and the lake and eat their fish. It is truly an incredible experience. Thank you again for staying at Heron's Cove and we hope that you will make it your Vacation Home away from Home!

Owner's Response: Hello Sami, Thank you so much for your review. We loved having you stay at Heron's Cove and hope you will come back in the future. I'm glad to hear that the Ladies trip turned out well and that you were able to enjoy your time there. Perhaps you will think about coming out when the weather is even nicer so you can enjoy more of the lake activities. I'm glad your group was able to enjoy time on the lake in the Kayaks. We are happy to supply those for our guests so that they can enjoy the lake even in the winter. That is the truly nice thing about having a home on the warm side of the lake. It never freezes and you can truly enjoy the lake even in the coldest of weather if you are brave enough to get out there. Thank you again for staying at Heron's Cove and we hope you will make this your VACATION HOME AWAY FROM HOME!
