Monkton is a quiet Vermont village on the shore of Cedar Lake. Nestled in trees, secluded from the road, Hummingbird Lane winds off Rotax Road. This home is 35 minutes drive from downtown Burlington, 10 minutes from Hinesburg and 15 minutes from Bristol.
• In order to properly clean the home between guests, we've set a checkout of 11am and check in of 3pm, but we may be able to accommodate earlier check-in, or later check out. Please let me know if you would like special arrangements and I'll try to make it work with the cleaning person.
• Children are welcome but please be aware that there are breakable items around and so for reasons of safety and cost, they need to be supervised.
• A dog may be welcome, depending. Let's discuss first.
• No more than four guests in this home, six if you also rent the second bedroom.
• Smoking is permitted outdoors only.
I've been a full time artist for twenty two years. I try to give guests their privacy but am available for a studio tour if you would like.
Prior to becoming an artist I worked on Wall Street and ran a small investment firm that concentrated on the securities of bankrupt and distressed companies. Before that I did a lot of things, including fight forest fires in northern Canada near Great Slave Lake.
I'm very much into nature and paddling. I enjoy both whitewater kayaking and wilderness canoe trips. I divide my time between a cabin deep in an Adirondack nature preserve (The Split Rock Wildway) and my home in Monkton Vermont, about an hour away.
Rod MacIver purchased this apartment in 2004
This apartment is one of four in this large -- 4500 square foot house. Two are rented on a yearly basis, I live in one, and the other two are available for short term rental.
The house is secluded from both the road and neighbors. The property is heavily treed -- I plant more trees each year with the thought that before too many more years go by I will no longer have to cut the lawn.
My boyfriend and I stayed here as part of an anniversary celebration, and we're already talking about returning! The location is a convenient drive to Burlington and several smaller but equally charming towns. There are also tons of excellent breweries in the area, which happens to be an interest of ours. We loved getting out of the city and seeing the stars! Everything was clean and neat, we enjoyed staying in during the evening, cooking, and sitting by the cozy gas fireplace. Rod is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend for couples looking to get away and have some time to themselves. And the space could certainly accommodate a small family as well.
I had a great experience at this apartment. It's conveniently located, easy to access, clean, and has virtually everything you need to be comfortable. My girlfriend and I cook a lot and the kitchen in the apartment was great for that. The bedroom and bathroom were clean. Having the gas fireplace was also a nice plus. Our dog loved running around in the backyard. Rod was very considerate and helpful as well.
