About the property

Sailing Yacht: KALIMBA: A BENETEAU OCEANIS 45. 3 cabins. Sleeps up to 6. From our base in Grenada, Kalimba tours the Grenadine Islands of Carriacou, Bequia, Union, Mustique, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, PSV, Petit Martinique etc. Self catering and sleep on board the yacht at fabulous anchorages. The sailing yacht is available to your own itinerary or follow our suggestions, from a simple one day sail to a full two weeks (or more) of live aboard experience. If you want to go further afield in the Caribbean please enquire. KALIMBA was new in 2012 and is fully equipped for a luxury live aboard cruising holiday. She has a generator and watermaker (so there are no restrictions on fresh water showers!!)

Powerboat: KALIMBA TOO: A SACS STRATOS 42 ft. 550HP. Seats up to 10 guests. From our base in Grenada we can power to the Grenadine Island, reaching Tobago Cays in only two hours. We tour the Grenadine Islands and with this boat we can explore hidden beaches and uninhabited islands. Visiting anchorages inaccessible by other boats. With KALIMBA TOO we can pull right up on the beach!

Both boats are based in Grenada and cruise the Grenadine Islands, stopping at fabulous sandy beaches for swimming and snorkeling. The sailing yacht has a captain, sleeping on board. The powerboat offers the chance to stay onshore in local hotels, evenings in local bars and restaurants etc. Both are fantastic holidays. Pricing is calculated according to what you want to do.

About Peter Hayes

Owner of two boats based in Grenada. Kalimba: A Beneteau 45 Oceanis. I bought this boat new in Italy in 2012 and sailed her around the Mediterranean and then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. She has been giving charter guests cruises around the Grenadine Islands for the last two seasons.

Kalimba Too: A Sacs Stratos powerboat. Bought in FortLauderdale in 2014, shipped to St Maartin and then driven 600 miles to Grenada. Offering fast powerboat tours of the Grenadine Islands since last year.

Peter Hayes purchased this boat in 2013

Why Peter Hayes chose Caribbean

The best way to see the islands.

What makes this boat unique

Seeing the "real" Caribbean. Going to beaches with no cruise liners or their passengers in sight. Eating and drinking at local restaurants, so much better than the "all inclusive, 5 star hotels" that isolate you from the real place.

Holiday Adventure in the Caribbean!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous adventure of a lifetime - so many memories, so many highlights, genuine experiences, amazing sights and mini-adventures every day!!

Starting in St Lucia, our journey began with a dinghy ride to the Kalimba to the background of the first of many glorious sunsets in the Caribbean. The yacht is elegant, spacious and comfortable with all essentials on board including a microwave, which to be honest we didn’t use and we didn’t miss!! The sailing adventure began the next day after a great night’s sleep on the gently rolling Caribbean waves.

Over the course of eight days, we visited various islands (Bequia, Tobago Keys, The Grenadines, Mayreau, Union Island etc), each with its own unique and special character. We had opportunities to snorkel, experience local Caribbean cuisine and spend time sun spotting on the beaches. Meals could be as simple or as complicated as you make them with locals offering to deliver everything straight to Kalimba from freshly baked banana bread and live lobsters to French red wines with additional opportunities to sample Caribbean cuisine in local cafes, restaurants or bars. We met Robert Righteous on the hills of Mayreau, met friendly, local people in markets, on the streets and in cafes and experienced the traditional BBQ of Hog Island in Grenada.

The finishing highlight for us was a speed adventure on the Kalimba Too, a great introduction into the world of power boats and speeds of 30knots++!!

Despite having zero sailing experience, the trip was relaxing for us all and we will continue to talk about it for months to come. Pete, our Skipper was knowledgeable, encouraging and reassuring at all times, essential in adventures with an element of risk. Forgive us if we continue to slip exotic names into our conversations such as Salt Whistle Bay and Happy Island, but our memories of sea, sun, Piña Coladas, tropical fish, Caribbean vibe and life on a yacht will remain with us for a long time. Would recommend to anyone with a spirit of adventure, just do it!!

Holiday Adventure of a Lifetime!!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a holiday of a lifetime on Kalimba. 2 weeks of paradise! I am/ was a totally inexperienced sailor, but never once felt uncomfortable. Peter sails his yacht with a relaxed ease and is totally in control. We all had little jobs to do, which were expertly handed out by Peter, who seems to have an incredible knack of spotting people’s strengths and weaknesses. Sleeping on the boat is so relaxing with the fantastic gentle rocking motion and the complete fresh air of the sea.

We visited St. Lucia and various islands, all of which were beautiful but the various islands of Bequia and Mayreau were just fantastic. The beaches and bays of all the islands are just stunning! On the 8th day of our cruising, we sailed into Grenada and its marina and our last three days were spent relaxing on the beach and two exhilarating trips on Peter’s 43ft rib/ speedboat. We went to the beach one day and then to a barbeque on Sunday at Hog Island, which was great fun. We even got a round of applause from the locals for turning off Robbie Williams, which was coming out a bit too loud on the boat’s stereo system! They seem to prefer Bob Marley!

All in all, I could not recommend this holiday of a lifetime more. It was so relaxing and really made by our laid back skipper, who was great company and a great chance to see the unspoilt Caribbean as opposed to the more formal resorts. Brilliant!!

April 2014 - Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

A once-in-a-lifetime experience…which we’ve done twice, and will do again!! This is the only way to see the Caribbean – off the beaten track of the cruise liners, visiting deserted palm fringed beaches, and colourful villages and towns.

Kalimba tours follow broadly the same route, but Pete the captain - who has excellent local knowledge - was happy to vary the itinerary to fit with your preferences. The sail from St George up to the Grenadines is a great way to shake off the jet/travel lag, and slow down to the Caribbean pace of life, chilling to Bob Marley. As its international travel, there are various immigration formalities at Carriacou and Union Island, but all these are taken care of by the captain – you don’t even have to leave the boat.

A stop at the classic Caribbean postcard location of Sandy Island, off Carriacou, is a highlight - a great place to snorkel over beautiful and varied corals, amongst thousands of colourful fish, in the crystal blue warm waters. Kalimba is well stocked with snorkelling and other watersports equipment. Another great photo op is the stop at Mopion island – a tiny sand island, whose only landmark, at its highest point (3 metres), is a windswept palm umbrella. On Union Island, don’t miss the burgers at Big City, overlooking the harbour, and if you’re lucky go to the Full Moon Party on the Kite-Surfing beach…where the rum and cokes get bigger through the night!

Once you’re in The Grenadines most of the legs are an hour or two, and some hops are even shorter – giving you enough of a blast to experience a proper sailing holiday, but ample time to enjoy the highlights of islands…our favourites were around Mayreau: swimming with turtles at Tobago Cays; getting away from it all on Petit Tabac; finding huge iguanas on Baradal Island; climbing to the viewpoint above Saltwhistle Bay; and a leisurely sunset walk up to the old chapel on Mayreau for views over Tobago Cays, and then drinks at Robert Righteous’ bar. If you’re feeling extravagant, the local ‘Boat Boys’ will cook you fresh lobster on the beach; alternatively, most islands have more reasonably priced restaurants, or Kalimba has a spacious and well kitted out galley for those preferring to cook …there is even a BBQ.

We didn’t have time to fit in the more Northerly islands of Bequia, Canouan and Mustique; but certainly plan to next time – as our last trip certainly left us yearning for more, and we can’t wait to get back on Kalimba!!!

Holiday of a lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

Just wanted to thank you again for the most amazing experience of our lives! I've traveled all over Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, North America, etc but no holiday compares to the unique experience we had sailing the caribbean on the Kalimba yacht for 2 weeks. This type of holiday is a match made in Heaven for adventurous types with a passion for travel and an appreciation for life. As written on the walls of Robert Righteous's bar in Mayreau "Live, Laugh, Love, Dance" and that we certainly did! This adventure was like no other - to see such beautiful and wondrous secluded islands, to learn to sail, and enjoy the local authentic flavors and absorb the culture right in the heart of it all. Walking up the steps from the cabin to the deck each morning and having my breath taken away by the sight of paradise before me is a memory that is forever etched in my heart and mind. Thank you for creating this lifetime memory for us. We look forward to making this an annual getaway and bringing along more friends and family to join us next time.

The Only Way To See The Caribbean

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a trip!

Our first time in the Caribbean and what a fantastic experience, the warm breeze and crystal clear waters made sailing the yacht Kalimba a truly magical experience. The days would start with a plunge before breakfast followed by relaxing in the sun, sight seeing or sailing to the next new location on our itinerary. The local food was excellent and could be washed down with a variety of soft drink (or rum cocktails!), alternatively a meal or BBQ on Kalimba with a glass of wine and watch the sun setting over the ocean.

The Captain had a good local knowledge of the islands and could take us to one of the lovely secluded beaches for swimming and snorkelling, to a national park to swim with the turtles or to some great night spots for a beach party.

Kalimba was always clean and well presented with plenty of space on deck to relax, we would recommend Kalimba as a romantic getaway or family holiday and hope to return one day.

A+L
