Great getaway house and location
The house was very nice. Loved the fact that they had a ton of toys and books for kids. The Internet worked well and the house had a lot of tech, e.g. smart lock, smart tv, apple tv. These become more important than we expected since it rained for most of our stay there.
The house was clean. Beds were comfortable. The view and the river were great. The deck was very nice. Great outdoors. The pictures are nice but in our opinion both the house and the outdoors are better in person.
There was one big canoe and two kayaks. The canoe was fun and the landscape was beautiful on both sides of the river. There was a power boat and a jetski parked at the pier. We didn't ask but I think totally worth inquiring about renting at least one of them while there.
The owners were very nice and responsive. We're looking forward to going back.Hopefully next time the weather will be better...
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and that the darn rain gave you a little break to get out on the water. Thank you for your kind words about the house. We really try to make it a comfortable and easy place for guests to come visit. I'm pretty sure that we can't legally rent out the jetski and boat - but that would be fun! We'd love to have you back!
Perfect weekend getaway with the family
We decided to do a last minute family getaway after Thanksgiving. The owners were very quick to respond to our request and were very accommodating. We enjoyed the outdoors with the kayak and canoe, but also walking around the property and neighborhood. There was a nice horse farm nearby that takes care of injured horses. Our kids enjoyed petting the horses and feeding them carrots! My favorite part was ending the day with a warm fire (though the weather was quite pleasant. I would definitely recommend this house for any family looking to get some quality time with the kids, or as we call it "forced family fun"!
This was our second visit to the Relaxing River Retreat. The house was perfect for our holiday with four adults and 2 teenagers. We will be back again!
Relaxing River Getaway
The house was well equipped. Perfect for our group - 5 adults and 2 children (1 infant, 1 toddler) as everything was on one level. Spacious dining and living area. Very comfortable beds. Our toddler loved the kids' room! Large backyard leading down to the river. Very quiet setting. Great place to read a book. Loved watching the butterflies in the morning and walking down to the river to "watch the water" at all times of day. Enjoyed dinner at Tommy's. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is a great place! Only note: Knives have gotten a bit dull, may need to be sharpened. Would definitely recommend this place!
Very nice home and amenities. .however the jellyfish were too much. ..vacation spoiler
Nice home...but too many jellyfish
We're happy you chose our home for your weekend getaway, but are bummed you felt the jellies were a vacation spoiler. They are a fact-of-life in the salt waters of the Chesapeake Bay region. It's true they make it hard to swim in the river in the summer months, but we encourage folks to visit one of the local beaches nearby where they are less prevalent in the cooler water, and the rivers are still perfect for fishing, crabbing, kayaking and canoeing all summer.
We hope you still enjoyed visiting and learning more about the historic NNK area.
One of the best summer houses we have rented
The house was great for the number of people we had with plenty of space for everyone to lounge around. The yard was huge and we spent most of our time in the yard, on the dock, or kayaking. We did have some issues with mosquitoes and jellyfish so I would keep in mind to bring repellant. We would definitely come back!
