I'm a good friend of the owner, and I take care of the booking. I've lived in the n'hood since 2003. I live in a former train depot where we host house shows, lots of dinner parties and the occasional art show. I'm a realtor. My husband is an architect. We've got three kids, and we love living in this neighborhood with it's mix of historic and brand new. It's great to be walk a block to buy a baguette at Blue Dahlia (my husband's French), taste wine any Friday at East End Wines or eat out at at least 10 restaurants within 5 blocks!
I'm a good friend of the family who has owned this property for generations. They have roots and history like you wouldn't believe. They know where they came from, and they welcome the 'new.'
The Seventh Street Alley Flat is is a historic property that has been completely remodeled, so you can be in the center of activity in comfort. This is for someone who wants to be in the middle of the action and walk to anything you need or want.
This review is a little late. I don't know how it skipped my mind but my husband and I spend a week there a while back and we really had a delightful stay. The house is clean and well equipped. Everything was in working order and I can't think of any complaints we had about the house or anything in it.
The real delight about this house is it's location though. It's located RIGHT by all the good food trucks (like, it's in your back yard practically.) As far as everything else has to offer, this location is right in the center and it's a pretty short walk, bike ride, car ride to get most places.
The neighbors have two cute dogs that were super friendly and greeted us every night as we came home. We are dog lovers and these two were hysterical and really added delight to the trip for us. We would book this place again in a heartbeat if we were going back to Austin. Honestly just writing this review makes me itch to go back!
Thanks!
The location was great. A quick walk to several restaurants, food trucks and coffee shops. We enjoyed the patio in the evenings!
Julie's place was perfect. The house is nicely located near fantastic restaurants, pubs and music venues and walking distance to downtown. The house was clean and comfortable. Julie was very responsive and helpful with any questions I had. Highly recommend this property!
This bungalow was perfect for a week in Austin for my little family. Kitchen, living area, and bathroom were spacious and nicely decorated. Yard was lovely for hanging out.
Walking distance to the convention center and many of the restaurants and food trucks. House is tucked back from noisy 6th and 7th streets and remarkably quiet for its location. Only one major drawback-- there was a railing being installed. It was noisy work and we were not given a heads up about the drilling and banging. I would recommend the property with advance warning about any work being done.
I stayed here, while in transition moving from SF to Austin, The apartment is close to East side 6th street bars and restaurants and easy 15min walk down to west side 6th street downtown. Apartment was perfect with a cozy living room area and eat in kitchen, I was here during Feb, when Austin was going through a cold snap so I didn't really use the patio area but I can imagine in Summer it would be great.
Julie was also very accommodating, working with me to extend my booking a few days when I had to push my apartment move in.
Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting who wants to be close to the city and the eclectic scene of East Austin as well :)
I had a great time staying at the East downtown house. It is in an awesome location and it turned out to be quite tranquil. The kitchen is beautiful and both Julie and the homeowner were incredibly helpful and very responsive when I needed anything. I would love to stay in this home again!
You are at the pulse of all that east 6th and 7th street has to offer. You are a hipster! Within 3 blocks, you can walk to countless restaurants, everything from food trailers to fine dining (La V); sip a cocktail at East Side Showroom; take in some yoga (Practice Yoga); stroll the State Cemetery and find the graves of notables like Ann Richards or Stephen F Austin. Walk six blocks and you can spend your morning in line at Franklin BBQ (#1 in the USA by Bon Apetit & #1 in TX by Texas Monthly). Four blocks will get you across I-35 to countless eateries and bars. Easy Tiger is the go to for good-as-Paris pastries upstairs and food, drink and ping pong downstairs along Waller Creek. Now you're within striking distance of the infamous Alamo Drafthouse cinema. Hit the hike and bike trail (1 mile away) and see the early-morning mist on the tranquil lake. So many things to do.
