About Julie & Jory Kaplan

Jory & Julie 'Jewlz' Kaplan: Jory and I work in the medical field in Redding, CA. We escape to Ashland as often as we can to relax. We enjoy quiet time and travel with our children. We love to walk around Lithia Park and go to the theatre with our family. We cherish older homes and are very excited to own a 1900 Historic Ashland Home and to share it with you.

Julie & Jory Kaplan purchased this house in 2011

Why Julie & Jory Kaplan chose Ashland

We hope you enjoy our lovely Victorian Vacation home! This home has drawn our attention for years, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was called the 'Coleman-Mulit' home, and was built in 1900 by Mr. John Coleman.

The Register states, 'John Coleman purchased this lot from G.W. Gillette in 1899 and soon thereafter the local newspaper noted, 'John Coleman will immediately build on his Church Street lot. He plans a substantial residence and foundations are already underway.' {Ashland Tidings, 22-Jun-1899, 3:1} Coleman, operated a canning plant in Ashland with his brother. He sold this house in 1904. In 1906 Lloyd and Gertrude Mulit purchased the property, which they retained as their residence until 1924. The Coleman-Mulit House is a large two-story vernacular ell with a projecting front gable, accented by a full-height projecting bay. Modest Queen-Anne detailing is evident in the complex form, eave bracketry and the 'pent' roof'

What makes this house unique

Great location - Great amenities - Helpful owners

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful spring garden when we arrived. Wonderfully located - near everything. Well supplied kitchen and bathrooms. Attractive, clean interior. Helpful owners. Nice sunny patio for afternoon drinks. Only demerit is that sofa bed is tired. Highly recommend the Victorian Secret for a comfortable holiday.

We went for the art and two plays, stayed in this lovely home in a great location, very comfortable with all amenities. Perfect. Thank you Julie for answering my questions and providing such a great place for us to call home for the weekend.

Fabulous location, perfect house for our family

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to Ashland for the plays for at least 7 years now. This was our first time at the Victorian Secret. It was a perfect location and house for our family. Everything we needed was provided. Even the deer who came daily to the delight of my 6 year old grandson! The height of the beds was a surprise, but once I stepped up on the footstool and crawled in I loved the comfort. We all hope to come back again.

Perfect location, great accommodation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, our 2 young children (4 and 7) and grandpa landed here for a weekend exploration of Ashland. The experienced could not have been easier -- from access on the first day through to the owner's checking in with us after we'd left to make sure all had gone well. We walked everywhere. Capping it all off, as we were leaving on Sunday morning 5 deer were grazing in the lot across the street.

Wonderful stay in Ashland

  • 5 of 5

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at The Victorian Secret and it is always a treat. It is not only convenient to Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but it feels like home, very clean, very well appointed. Only once did I have a minor problem (couldn't log into Netflix), and the owners were extremely helpful and took care of the problem immediately. They were excellent people to deal with. I hope to stay there again.

The house is beautifully decorated, had everything we could possibly need, and was so comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Our group was made up of three friends who attend the festival every year. We were so impressed with the care and detail that had gone in to maintenance and set up of the Victorian Secret!

It was so close to everything and we enjoyed walking around town and not having to worry about parking. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were well-appointed, and we enjoyed wine and cheese on the back patio.

Thank you so much! Our visit was perfect because we felt so at home!
