Separate entrance guest suite in French Normandy-style estate on 3-acres

Bedrooms 1
Space 400 sq ft
Property type studio
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

1-2 eco-friendly bedrooms, mountain and ocean views, sand tennis court, gardens

This area is recovering from a most challenging winter of 2017-18 between the fire and mudflow. Although the neighborhood was negatively impacted, thankfully, the house and property remain relatively unscathed. The 3-acre French Normandy estate sits amidst the natural beauty of oaks with mountain and ocean views. During the quiet evening hours and early morning, the faint sounds of a train in the distance, donkeys baying and numerous bird songs bring the neighborhood alive to those seeking a place to unwind and relax yet close enough to all that Santa Barbara offers.

In your own private wing with separate entrance is a tastefully decorated studio with skylights and vaulted ceiling and includes the finest Temperpedic California King mattress. Organic Eucalyptus linens and 100% cotton towels will insure you feel pampered. Between the quiet and comfort our guests all comment how deeply they sleep and rested they become. In front of the double-wide custom built feather sofa and 'relax-the-back' adjustable arm-chair (with lap-top platform) is the 40' plasma TV with cable, DVD selection, and USB port plus "Apple TV" capabilities.

After the recent Thomas fire December '17 a professional maintenance company cleaned all air ducts and vents and tested with LED meter to insure good air quality. The entire house and property have "memon" water and "memon-combi" installed (German technology used for over 20 years) to nullify harmful effects from EMF, Wifi, geopathic stresses, toxins and restore the natural vibration of the air/water.

There is a small refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee and tea pots provided and plenty of filtered water. There is a small dining table and 2 chairs.

The large marble shower with bench includes fragrance-free shampoo and soap.

Additionally, there is a massage table for private sessions. Exercise and yoga equipment is provided.

A second bedroom (queen) is available for an additional price ($125 per night plus $100 one-time cleaning fee) for those traveling with older children or desiring more space. It is tastefully appointed with hardwood floor, sitting area and desk, high ceilings, and private balcony with table and four chairs overlooking the yard. There is $59 property damage insurance per reservation suggested.

You are welcome to enjoy picking from our 20 fruit trees in season. The home has always been maintained to highest standards without the use of harsh products so its ideal for chemically sensitive people. The drought tolerant grounds are organically sustained. There is a tennis court and trailhead on the property. This quiet location offers both adventure and relaxation.

Situated between the Santa Ynez mountains and Pacific Ocean, Montecito is a small enclave of Santa Barbara. A variety of beaches, California-fresh gourmet restaurants, and alluring boutique shops are minutes away.

About Cheryl Tomchin

I began traveling abroad in my late teens throughout Europe and S.E. Asia and found my way to India in the 1960s, for which I am forever grateful. Blessed to live on this property for over thirty-years its beauty still captivates me. Our area has everything from world class restaurants to a bug-free mild climate with mountain hiking trails and year-round ocean swimming. I love picking fruits and vegetables in the garden and playing tennis all from the backyard. Guests staying here over the years felt we provided a 'reset' button where they could rest and become healthier. My latest 'motto' is PLAY2DY though I couple that with working on numerous environmental causes through non-profit agencies helping get California fossil-free. The past few years I've enjoyed studying at Pacifica Graduate Institute working with the Global Dream Community Initiative.

Cheryl Tomchin purchased this studio in 1987

Why Cheryl Tomchin chose Montecito

The picturesque home initially attracted me, but the land keeps me here. Building with rock and boulders became my creative outlet. Our guests find solace and rejuvenation during their stay and have access to the property with several seating areas. This studio space lends itself to restful, sweet dreams day or night.

This is an extremely quiet neighborhood and I invite guests who respect that quality. It is a fragrance-free home and acceptable to chemically sensitive people therefore I host non-smokers only. And in the aloha-spirit, kindly remove your shoes before entering bedroom. Due to our severe drought conditions all of Montecito is on water restriction so please limit showers to 5 minutes.

What makes this studio unique

Situated between the Los Padres National Forest mountain range and Pacific Ocean, Montecito is a small enclave of Santa Barbara. A variety of beaches, California-fresh gourmet restaurants, and alluring boutique shops are minutes away. We are 7-10 minute drive to the ocean and guests are welcome to enjoy Tydes at the private Coral Casino Club on Butterfly Beach.

Several trailheads are nearby with varying degrees of hiking ability. This quiet location offers both adventure and relaxation.

The quiet and woodsy neighborhood has four roadside walking 'loops' ranging from twenty to sixty minutes for light stroll to strenuous uphill exercise at any time of day or night. Guests will enjoy the hidden trails as well as magnificent ocean views.

Wander the grounds and read a book in one of the many comfortable chairs or chaises or hammock. The sand-carpeted tennis court facility includes a ball-machine. I can frequently arrange for a strong player to give a good tennis workout at reasonable rate with notice.

If you would like a massage (shiatsu, Thai, Swedish) let me know in advance for availability. Prices vary depending on treatment location and practitioner. If you feel adventurous to travel 10-20 minutes for energy healing (soothing oil) work ($150) or a firm pressure dry massage here ($120) can be attained.

I provide unscented soap, shampoo and beach towels. I am here to help in whatever way I can or remain invisible.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I initially met Cheryl when she hired me to Dowse her home and property in August 2012 after she heard a presentation I gave in Santa Barbara, CA. As an environmental Dowser I clear the stressors and raise the frequency of homes and properties, making it a place which supports focus, clarity, health, and more. Cheryl is deeply committed to providing an environment for herself and her guests that is safe and environmentally stress free. To visit her home is an invitation to experience a harmonic resonance for greater health and energy. I highly recommend Cheryl and staying in the Lilac Guest Suite on your trip to Santa Barbara area! Peaceful, spacious and welcoming!

There over Labor Day weekend which meant no (road) work on-going during my stay. Surrounding streets hit hard in the floods but the property was delightful!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Steve, for choosing my place. It is quite sobering to visit Montecito in this time. I'm grateful the damage did not immediately impact my property and hopeful by early October the bridge will be completed.

Cherryl was a great host and has clear boundaries in what to do and what not to and we appreciate clarity and directness in communication. We were on a film assignment and were gone most of the day but hope to come back one day when we have more leisure time. RThge accommodation are very well appointed and nicely decorated. 5 Stars
