About Ellen Jonker
I am a 4th generation Stony Lake resorter beginning with my great grandfather who rented one of the early cottages on the lake. The rest is history. As a child I enjoyed every summer, Memorial to Labor Day, at Stony Lake and knew this was where I wanted my family to grow up also. I was extremely fortunate to acquire this property in 1994.
Ellen Jonker purchased this Cottage in 1994
Why Ellen Jonker chose Benona
This property is uniquely located within walking distance to Lake Michigan and is one of just a few cottages on a quiet gravel dead end road with limited traffic. It is just two cottages away from the cottage where I grew up and fortunately, I was able to purchase this property. Now my children and grandchildren come to Stony to enjoy good old fashioned fun and family environment. The 'Peanut' cottage is the guest house for the main property which was recently rebuilt in 2014.
What makes this Cottage unique
Listen to the waves lapping the water's edge while you enjoy beautiful views from the screened porch. This cottage is perfect for a couple seeking respite from a busy urban life or a young family to enjoy playing with their children in the beach sands of Stony or Lake Michigan. This is a historic cottage built at the turn of the century and has been updated periodically to preserve its integrity. It has wood floors throughout and has a quaint cottage feel the moment you walk thru the front door.

Beautiful and Relaxing!
Our stay at 'Peanut' cottage was wonderful and relaxing! The view from the screened in porch was my favorite thing to do in the morning with coffee and a book(couldn't read for looking at the view)! Took naps with the doors open and the breeze off the lake was great! The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. Less than 5 minutes to Lake Michigan and we took advantage of the sunsets every night-spectacular! We can't say enough about host Ellen! She was so helpful with places to eat, see, and seeing if there was anything we needed. Made us feel like a part of her family and we enjoyed meeting her kids and grandchildren. We will definitely be going back and I could go on and on but I'll leave this here-you can't go wrong by staying at the 'Peanut' cottage! Bob & Sandy Martin
Sandy and Bob,
The pleasure was mine! I am delighted you enjoyed your stay here and please come back and visit us soon!
Recently my wife and I stayed at Stony Lake at 'Peanut' and it was a wonderfully calm and restful stay. Ellen, our host and proprietor, of 'Peanut', the name of the residential cabin we stayed, was a most comfortable visit we've experienced in a long time. Ellen is a wonderfully accommodating hostess and for anyone wanting to have an embracing reprieve I strongly recommend this stay.

Cute lake cottage with great lake views and an awesome hostess in Ellen
Ellen greeted us upon arrival as her home is the main house on the property. She showed us all the amenities and met our 3 dachshunds that came on vacation with us.
We were invited to a bonfire that evening by the lake.
The temperatures were in the 90s, but fortunately there was an air conditioner in the bedroom so we could keep the dogs cool during the days.
The kitchen was very well equipped and there was a gas grill out back also.
The bathroom was stocked with towels for the week.
The bed was super comfortable to both of us.
Michael enjoyed use of the kayak every day.
The screened front porch was perfect for drinking wine and enjoying the night air.
It was quiet and relaxing, which is exactly what we had hoped for during our vacation.
Thank you for the warm welcome and allowing the dogs to stay as well. We hope to return for another vacation.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! I hope you will visit us again soon!
This cottage is simply amazing! We loved the cottage, Stony Lake, the stream to Lake Michigan, and of course the beautiful sunsets! Ellen was such a wealth of information for us and very kind and her place had everything you need for a nice get away with many extra touches! The 2 restaurants that were walking distance were very good with friendly owners. The location is also central if you would like to venture to Silver Lake and Pentwater, among other tourist places. My husband enjoys fishing and he was very pleased with the many opportunities the cottage and area provided. We can not wait to go back!
What a wonderful September 2017 getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay at this wonderful peanut cottage - very serene, relaxing and scenic. This location was nice and close for our desired biking along the easy-riding Hart-Montague bike trail. Ellen was a most gracious and pleasant host. We'll definitely be back for a future stay. Relax and Unwind
The "Peanut Cottage" is a charming, clean and perfectly enjoyable place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch enjoying the lovely view of the lake, fishing from the dock and rowboat, campfires on the beach at night, and walks to Lake Michigan. The friendly host was very knowledgeable of the area and very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely return!
