Spacious One-Bedroom, Walk To Ocean

This cottage located over a three-car garage (Owner's storage) can be rented separately for a couple or in conjunction with the four-bedroom Hale Lihikai located on the same oceanfront Puako lot. Great ocean, mountain and views as well as the stunning bright orange royal ponciana when in season. Full kitchen, queen-size bed and full bath with a jacuzzi tub/shower combination. The covered lanai is a great spot to enjoy a tall, cool, beverage while you watch the Puako world go by. There is an outdoor shower, too, with hot and cold water to rinse off the salt and sand after a day of snorkeling on the Puako reefs.

Get away from it all

Fabulous place, exactly as pictured, modern and clean. Puako is where you go when you want to get away from it all, but you will leave as friends. Excellent management staff, very helpful. Only caveat is the policy of asking renters of this unit not to walk through the yard when the front unit is rented. The shore in front of the house is an enormous expanse of rock perfect for exploring, sitting in quiet pools, and watching the waves. However, it is inaccessible at high tide if you don't walk through the yard. The nearby public access is a ramp into the water bounded by homeowners' walls, uncomfortable to cross at high tide. This is only a small thing. Otherwise, it is a very lovely unit in a fabulous private location.

Love it

Great stay! Sunset are amazing. We really love our stay and 2papayas make us very feel confortable when we check in. You have everything for cookink or going out at the beach for the day with cooler, beach chair and umbrella. We really love our stay and the outside shower is so nice. Puako is also very quiet at night and great place to discover Big Island and Snockeling.

Lovely little place for a couple

We loved our stay in Puako. The studio is perfect for a couple. There is plenty of room, a fully equipped kitchen and a nice bathroom. There is also an outdoor shower and everything you need for the beach, towels, chairs, umbrella. The beach right in front of the house is a bit rocky but we did snorkel there and saw two turtles and a manta ray! Five minutes away by car is beach 69 which is a great beach with shade and excellent snorkeling. We also loved the location which is more of a neighborhood and not in one of the giant resorts. Very quite. We were a little worried about privacy as there are multiple units but the way things are set up the unit is very private with its own lanai. The folks at 2 Papayas were great. Marley met us at the unit and checked in on us during our stay and Mary was very accommodating in letting us check out a little later. Plus they gave us two delicious Papayas! Overall a great experience.

Perfect Puako!

This place is perfect for any couple who wants a comfortable place to come home to after exploring Hawai'i all day! It's also perfect if you would like to spend a day or two just relaxing and enjoying the local scene. We are so glad we choose Puako and this lovely studio apartment for our very first visit to the Big Island! Puako is an amazing little coastal community! Away from the busy and more congested Kailua-Kona area (although nothing on this island seemed congested ever really during our stay). It was exactly what we were looking for! Very quiet, peaceful and friendly and with the most amazing access to the most amazing beaches on the island!!!! The sunsets from here are to die for! In fact, I think I took my best photo of our entire vacation from the Puako shores, just 20 steps from this apartment! I cannot say enough good things about this location and the apartment. Being on the second floor, you get these delicious breezes (I know, sounds cliche but delicious is really the best word to use). And....because the apartment has windows facing in every direction, you will not miss any ocean or mountain breeze ever! The location is perfect for enjoying the sun and sand of this area and the Kohala Coast, or taking a quick trip to the other side of the island using either the upper road through Waimea or the spectacularly new Saddle Road. The apartment is well stocked with everything you need to venture out for the day (coolers, beach chairs, beach mats, beach towels and an excellent supply of tupperware:), and then come home and stay in for dinner enjoying those evening breezes! We never needed to use the AC, although nice it is there if you need it. Plenty of closet space, hangers, dressers and extra anything you need (towels, TP etc. etc.). The apartment was extremely clean and beautifully furnished. What you see in the photos is exactly what you get. We even had to stay an extra three days due to wintry weather at our home destination and the 2Papayas staff were so accommodating and helpful in allowing us to extend our stay! I will not even think about staying someplace else the next time we come. This will be our go to place for sure!

Puako Stay

I stayed with my wife in the room above the garage. We woke each morning to the feel of living in a tree hose with a view of the ocean. Bay is one of the better snorkeling areas. Two turtles reside there. Nice area to stay. A bit remote in a good way. A market three houses down. Real store about 10 miles away along with some places to eat. I took my bike and did the 1/2 iron man. Good location for this. Found time to do some diving, snorkeling, helicopter trip, etc. Had a great time. Got back and got my friend interested in renting the house for his family.

Just Right For Two

My wife and I stayed in this lovely hideaway for almost a week in early February 2015. We found that it was everything which we had been hoping for: spacious, clean, airy, well appointed, and well maintained. The layout is very convenient for two people. The kitchen is plenty large and has most of the items that are needed. The bath is big enough to walk around in, and the shower is good.

The unit is located about 200 feet from the water, but there is a peek of the rolling surf from the lanai where we ate breakfast and enjoyed an afternoon cocktail. We came to realize that Puako was a terrific choice: close to the water, with a pleasant year-round feel to it (as opposed to a place catering to high-end tourists), close to two excellent beaches (Hapuna and Waialea), and reasonably convenient to the supermarket at Mauna Lani, several excellent golf courses, and plenty of hiking. We went for a walk down the one road in Puako every morning and saw not only a number of other residents walking or biking, but also many humpback whales rolling and breaching only a few hundred yards offshore. Also, the sunsets from anywhere in Puako are truly world class.

It was a pleasure dealing with Mary and Marley Fox. Their office is about 300 yards away next to the Puako General Store (which has all the basics one might need) and they were unfailingly responsive and pleasant.
