Such a great house!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect! Bigger than it was sold to be which was so nice. The house is in the perfect part of town! Only a few minutes away from downtown and so many great places to eat.

Good location for any Asheville downtown event.

  • 3 of 5

We were comfortable in the home however it seems like it is still in some phases of needed renovation. We read a comment from a previous guest about the front door, it does stick and is not easy to work with. With all of that being said, we enjoyed our stay and truly appreciated the pet friendly aspect including clean dog dishes, a very large yard and a tie out for our border collie. We used Uber frequently and most rides were in the $6.50 range for downtown which is less than the price of the difficult to obtain downtown parking spaces. We were provided a well stocked and equipped kitchen with anything we could have wanted for preparing a nice meal. Overall the house was cute with a funky fun decor and on balance we were quite satisfied.

Where do you live?

Close to all Asheville has to offer but house is not VRBO standards.

  • 1 of 5

Great effort has been made to make a rundown residence into a livable space. But that doesn’t make it a viable and comfortable vacation rental. Much has been covered up by a cute paint job, but it is sub-standard accommodations for a VRBO posting. Most notably, Ingress and egress was shaky and highly insecure. The front door had a new keypad as a lock but the door itself was very old, fit poorly and was difficult to open and close. Security was not a high priority. Back entrance was unusable (no stairs). Floors (all) were out of level. Overhead clearance in stairwell does not accommodate anyone over 5’ tall. Prepare to duck or head will hit ceiling. For a while we had problems getting water in the kitchen sink. That was fixed by us with help from owner via telephone. Dishwasher worked after caretaker came and fixed it. Front porch lighting had to be fixed. We attempted to use the grill for a dinner and there was no propane. A new bottle of propane provided the next day but we had already gone out to dinner. Very little privacy in bathrooms because of flimsy, improvised doors. Front bedroom door would not close properly or stay closed at all. Front porch was useable but it was stacked with siding and other building materials (unattractive and unnecessary), plus garbage and recycling cans were literally next to the front door. Upgraded kitchen was very nice, well equipped and well stocked to cook. Dining space was comfortable and would accommodate 6. Adequate parking for 2, maybe 3 autos. Living room furnishings were comfortable. Beds were comfortable, linens and towels plentiful and clean. Local caretaker was responsive, mostly friendly and cheerful but seemed a bit surly when the inadequacies of the rental were brought to the owner’s attention. We felt misled by the VRBO posting and we overpaid for a well below average quality. None of our party would choose to stay at this property again.

Clean, more spacious than anticipated, great location

  • 4 of 5

Overall, the place was great. The house was clean, more spacious than anticipated, and in a great location. The hosts are communicative and check in is easy. It’s a great house for a family, friends, or couples. The house is updated and has space to spread out or spend time together.

The two things I’d look to improve are: 1) The floors were slick. They had been waxed or treated to the point we were slipping, even in bare feet. One of us slipped down the last two stairs and fell. 2) There was only one serving of coffee. We ended up getting coffee out, but if you plan to have coffee each morning, you should bring your own.

We would choose to stay here again.

Really great house for family reunion

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family reunion in West Asheville area. We enjoyed meeting the neighbors found the neighborhood to be quiet. The house had everything needed for our stay.

Just be aware that bathrooms have louvered doors which might make some people uncomfortable.

A Quirky House for a Quirky Town

  • 3 of 5

It's hard to say exactly how we felt about this house. For a quick weekend trip, it served its purpose well. The location is convenient to downtown Asheville and River Arts District. We used Lyft/Uber all weekend and never spent more than $12 going where we needed to go. The neighborhood, however, is not what you're hoping for when you're on vacation. There are houses like this one that have been rehabbed and are in use, and then there are houses that look as though they've been abandoned. It's a little unnerving, but all that being said, we never felt unsafe in the house.

Once inside the house, there is plenty of room. We had five adults in our group and were perfectly comfortable. There were adequate towels and linens and the kitchen was stocked with the basics as promised. There are two bathrooms, but the upstairs bathroom is a tub that's been fitted with a shower mechanism. Most of us chose to use the shower with the downstairs bathroom, which is just a shower stall, but was more comfortable.

Lastly, when we had questions about the house, the owners were very responsive and got back to us right away. Having used many vacation rentals, I know that is not always the case, so it was really appreciated.

Overall, I'd say this is a good choice for an Asheville vacation rental, but be prepared to find some oddities along the way.
