About Kathleen & Doug Guthrie

We love to travel and enjoy staying at VRBO properties and 'living like locals' whenever we can. Growing up in the Midwest and Northeast, and spending our early career years in Atlanta and Los Angeles, we have called Seattle home since the mid-90s. With its combination of beautiful water and mountain vistas and a lively urban vibe, Seattle has been the perfect place to raise our two sons and grow a business.

We acquired Creekside House in part to stave off the infill housing boom in close-in Seattle neighborhoods. With its lush garden, urban stream and rare street-to-street lot, Creekside House became our hobby house - allowing us to design and craft our vision of a cozy, private urban retreat. As life-long crafters and do-it-yourselfers, we completed a good portion of the renovation work ourselves and have filled the house with one-of-a-kind touches which we hope you and others will enjoy.

Kathleen & Doug Guthrie purchased this house in 2007

Lovely haven

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased with the wonderful stay at Creekside. We have stayed in many VRBO homes around the country from New York City to the north shore of Hawaii, and Creekside was among the best. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered by Kathleen and Doug from labeling how to use the shower (one of those fancy ones!) to recycling to kitchen acoutrements. The grounds around the home are so beautiful and peaceful. Beds and linens were top notch and comfortable. Finally, the home is located in a very accessible area of Seattle with two high-end grocery stores within a few blocks walking distance. We would definitely recommend this home, owners and experience without reservation. But make sure you get a reservation!! You will not be disappointed!

The pictures don't do it justice...

  • 5 of 5

Our teenage daughters whined a bit when they saw where we'd be staying. Although it was very close to the University of Washington which we had intended to visit, it was a very small place and they'd need to share a room. After five minutes inside, they did a 180 and were totally excited, going from room to room, each more impressive than the next! While small, this house is the epitome of understated elegance. Every detail is tasteful and immaculate. The home is extremely well organized, clean, and well appointed. The backyard view in October was gorgeous! The host and hostess live next door, and are very hospitable. The guidebooks they left us helped us find a very cool little shop within walking distance (although we drove) and an excellent restaurant on the water, near UW. We couldn't have been happier. This stay was an excellent value and saved us money and headache because it is just down the street from an organic grocery so we were able to make several of our meals in the kitchen...which could win an award for cleanliness and organization! The house feels like it is brand new, with new appliances, dishes, silverware, soft blankets, nice towels, etc. And the decorating is inviting, a bit rustic with hints of their travels to Alaska. We fell in love with Seattle on this visit and will definitely be back to Creekside...a charming home near the UW campus that felt like home while we were away."

Great house near UW!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing, cute 2 bedroom house near the U District and, by car, close to the UW Medical Center. The house was very clean throughout and stocked with everything you would need for an enjoyable stay. We were completely satisfied with the house and would definitely go back!

Look no further than "Creekside"

  • 5 of 5

We just had our 5th stay at "Creekside!" It is with out a doubt our favorite place to stay when we come to Seattle to visit family. Location is ideal, home is spectacular, and amenities superb! My only problem is that others are finding out what a "gem" it is and it has been booked already a couple times when I wanted to book it!! Thanks Kathleen and Doug, again, for providing such an inviting home to stay in while in Seattle...you know we will be seeing you again soon!

Creekside Home is a casual, comfortable rental.

  • 4 of 5

Kathleen and Doug have made a comfortable homelike atmosphere at Creekside with their own personal touches.

It is a small house that has been remodeled making it work for modern needs with a new kitchen and bath. Kathleen

was very hospitable and made us feel at home while there visiting with our daughter. Located on 40th Ave., we only had

to walk north 5 short blocks to find one grocery store and a bus stop (#62), or the same distance south to find another grocery

and bus stop (#65). We used the later to go to the University Shopping Mall, and to linkup with Light Rail at the University stadium

to go downtown. We had some sunny days, and enjoyed sitting on the patio which is surrounded with trees just starting to turn color

during our mid-Sept. stay. Sincerely, John and Judy

Very nice stay in Seattle

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (14 and 8 age of the kids) had a very nice week in Seattle. The house is very welcoming and has everything we could wish for!

Thank you very much Kathleen and Doug! The location is perfect even if you don't have a car. We loved the beautiful garden and the fireplace. Hopefully, we see you again!
