About Sheila

I am inspired by traveling, meeting new people, and exploring new cultures. Besides living in the US, I have lived in Costa Rica, Panama, Hawaii, the Netherlands, and Venezuela. Traveling, I have become best friends with fellow couch surfers and have had the opportunity to work in a butterfly garden, teach yoga, Spanish, and English. I am currently back in MN raising my 2 year old son and working at coordinating music festivals. I am only able to survive life in MN by leaving for part of the winter. My soul sings with the sun and I take every opportunity that I get to be somewhere warm.

Sheila purchased this house in 2002

Why Sheila chose Minneapolis

I purchased this property while I was going to college. At that time I had a great time living there with all my college friends. It was so nice living under the same roof but also having two separate spaces. As the years went by I was able to come and go from here between my travels. It was so nice to always have a place to come home to. I have done so much work to this house in the past ten years. It has been an amazing learning and growth experience for me. It is definitely filled with my blood, sweat and tears. I am now married and have my 2 year old son. We have now purchased a home in the suburbs but I am so happy to now be able to use the space to share with others traveling through.

What makes this house unique

The house was built in 1888. I love the history that this home holds. I love the diversity of the neighborhood and how convenient it is to get to most parts in and out of the city. It is close to walk or bike to parks, Minnihaha Falls, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars.

Comfortable home for our vacation

  • 5 of 5

My adult sons and I visited Minneapolis for our annual beer and baseball trip. The house was very comfortable and provided a great base for our explorations. We made a trip to Surly brewing, hit some batting cages, Bell Museum of Natural History, Target Field of course, Victor's 1959 Cafe, the Eastlake Craft Brewery, and had a Jucy Lucy at Matt's Bar and Grill.

The house was comfortable, ample space, and our hosts left us a few snacks.

Best sleep I've had in years!

  • 5 of 5

Was perfect for my 3 kids and I! Great location for all of our activities. Loved the bed & pillow more than my own. All of the amenities and kitchen utensils were exactly what we needed. We all were comfortable and would stay again!

Satisfactory

  • 3 of 5

The inside of the home was clean and comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. The temps were hot while there, and the window AC units couldn't cool the place down..so it would have been nice to have a ceiling fan, or floor fan. I will honestly say, the neighborhood seemed a bit unsettling when driving in a night due to the litter on the streets, some of the homes in nearby radius were unkept, and did not give me a feeling of safety while coming from out of town.

The beds were super comfy. Shelia had the kitchen well stocked. Nice to have a washer and drier! Minutes from the University of Minnesota.

Owner's Response: I have purchased a fan for guest that is available upon request. I have owned this home for 14 years and do not have any problems with safety but understand how it can be unsettling arriving to an unknown area late at night. The neighborhood is known for its culture and diversity and most people living in the area love this area of Minneapolis. Many of my neighbors are also home owners who have had their home for as long as I have or longer.

Central location with all the basics

  • 4 of 5

The duplex is located very centrally and we had easy access to everything we needed. The duplex had everything that we needed and was clean - fully stocked kitchen, nice towels, comfortable beds, wi-fi and cable. It's furnished in a very basic way and the pictures do it justice. It reminds me of an apartment one might have in college. The bathroom is quite small and shower is pretty tiny. The unit is on a second floor so not recommended if you have mobility challenges.

The owner was very thoughtful and left us with some muffins and bananas, knowing that our flight got in at midnight and we wouldn't have shopped for groceries for the next morning. We had no issues while we were there. Overall, this was a fine rental.

It is close to lots of restaurants as well as downtown night life. The Airport and Mall of America are also about 10 minutes away.
