Great getaway in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time with friends skiing and fishing. The highway behind the cabin didn't bother anybody and was still peaceful.

Perfect for our fall family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 with 2 college age kids met up for the weekend at this cabin , caught an App State football game and had a great time. It's about 15 min to campus. Arrived late at night in the dark. Woke up the next morning around 8am, rolled over and looked out the window and could see my early riser husband flyfishing in his waders on a frost covered rock in the creek... from my king sized bed! Just a beautiful experience. Kitchen well stocked with every type of pan and even had a crock pot. It was late at night the first night before we realized that we needed to turn heat on for each room separately . So remember to do that as soon as you arrive! It heats up very fast tho:)

Great house, location, appointments

  • 5 of 5

This 'fishing cabin' has a great deal of charm, had all the amenities needed to stay, be entertained, and be comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

Better than the pics!

  • 4 of 5

The pictures on VRBO do not do this house justice. Great amenities, including hot tub, huge firepit, gas log fireplaces in MBR, Dining room and lower family room. Great river views. Loved sleeping with open doors to hear the river rushing by. Family waded in the river and had great fun jumping and climbing from rock to rock. Only downside was the traffic noise from Hwy 105 which was across and uphill from the river. Lovely home for a family to enjoy the outdoors but still have a convenient setting.

Would definitely rent here again!

We enjoyed Draggin Fly

  • 4 of 5

The property is rustic and right on the Watauga River with beautiful views of the river and small waterfalls…. The fly fishing was great but you can only fish on the property you are staying on roughly 200 feet of water frontage Draggin Fly.....the property owners around the cabin fiercely enforce that fact. I was fortunate enough to speak with one of the property owners, she was kind enough to let me fish her portion of the river (I got lucky). There are two small fishing holes on the property that hold good sized fish. I fished every day and caught rainbows and browns. Another drawback is that you can hear the traffic on route 105 didn't bother me but it did my wife a little bit. The overall location is great very close to Boone, Mast General Store and Grandfather Mountain. Bring your own firewood as they do not provide which is a drawback that owners should reconsider. We enjoyed the fire pit area every night. Everything worked the cabin was nice with an upstairs and downstairs living rooms perfect for kids having their own space. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this location for the casual fly fisherman/family getaway on the river.
